As we enter the 4th quarter of our homeschool year, I wanted to give you an update on all the curriculum and courses we have been doing this year. In this video series, I'll share what my teens and I have thought of each subject, what worked and what didn't, and our overall ratings. In this fourth video of the series, I'm discussing our Math courses including Algebra 2 with Integrated Geometry and Precalculus

It is so refreshing and validating to hear another mom have the same issues we had with Shormann. I thought we were the only ones because all everyone does is rave about this program. We also used Saxon and thought the transition would be easy. What we struggled with the most was not only the length of lessons, but the topics presented seemed scattered and like you mentioned, the examples provided were of little help when my student struggled with a question. I appreciate your honesty about this program and it seems no one else is saying this! I feel that some youtube homeschool moms are trying way too hard to get paid sponsors, so they push these curriculums on to their audience under false pretenses.

It’s not just you or your kids. The problems you encountered in precal are also there in calculus. I’m not sure why it’s not talked about more but I’m glad you made an honest review about it!

I've heard so many glowing reviews of Shormann math, and no one has ever brought up these issues! They are so valid! Thank you so much for sharing these details of the actual user experience.

Shorman math was a nightmare for us when we tried it too. I thought maybe it was because it was my child who struggled in math and it just wasn’t for her. Now listening to your review reminded me that I don’t ever want to use it again. Man that two years of math for 3 credits is just so tempting! However our sanity is more important. 😅

My son is finishing his 2nd year of Shormann. 8th grade finishing Algebra 1/Geometry. He's enjoyed it so much, he's asked to do their Physical Science next year. Having said that, he does have the same comment that some of the examples on homework aren't relevant to the problems they are linked to. In regards to some of the problemyouror daughter had in Pre-Calculus...several of those things are taught in younger grades. The calculator for instance. They can't reteach simple principles every year. And most curriculum companies dont expect a ton of new students in the Pre-Calculus level. Shormann covers unit circles in Algebra 2/Geometry but i dont know how in depth. My daughter is in BJU Algebra 2 this year and they've covered them pretty well.

Yes, I wondered if some of her struggles were the fact that we switched to his curriculum this late in the game. It’s interesting because my son has been using Shormann for the last two years and I wonder what his thoughts would be on the pre-calculus course compared to hers.

I've been looking at reviews for Shormann and Nicole the Math Lady for my kids next year so I appreciate this review. Did you ever look at Nicole the Math Lady before deciding on Shormann?

Since we had done Saxon for soooo long and had used the DIVE tutorials with Saxon, I didn't do much research into other options. I had the assumption it would be a fairly smooth switch to Shormann

Thanks for sharing your review! We are Saxon users from K - Advanced Math. No one ever talks about the bad or unpleasant parts of this program. I almost switched my current 11th grader to Shormann when she was starting Algebra 1 but something about it just didn't sit well with me since I had used Saxon with Dive with three previous daughters. Don't beat yourself up too much though, PreCalculus is hard, not matter what curriculum you use.

Yikes…both of my boys are finishing up Shormann Algebra 2 and the 1/2 geometry. Wondering what I should do for them next year. Thanks for your honest review Abbey. Maybe I will have my boys watch your video and decide for themselves

For my oldest, I think she would have been much happier if we had continued with Saxon and used their Advance Mathematics course with the DIVE tutorial videos. She had done Saxon every year before that and always done very well.
