Im going with Matt with the color over fresh blackline. Going over healed ones are the same as a cover up for me. Color is mixing on top of the healed blacks. That’s my experience. Hahaha😅

Brett @haynestattoos here! Thanks for the critique! Always looking to grow. Appreciate the pointers, tips on color and everything else. The worm's lines were sculpted by outlining both edges and then filling in. It healed beautifully I'll get a picture next time I see the client. My major take aways from this critique is to slow down my process and focus on my strenghts both in design and tattooing itself. I tend to overthink design... The tattoos you liked most had more natural creative flow when I designed them than they did thought... I do live in a small town and often have to limit my personal style to appease the client. I really like the idea of adding blue and more black to the Mononoke peice. Thanks for the praise on the scorpion (as it has the most of me in it as far as artistry goes)! The inside of the flowers are not supposed to be eyes. I personally like the style of the leopard and totally agree about the frame being too close to the cheek. The "filigree" is kind of a signature style I've been developing that isn't exactly supposed to look like filigree... maybe could have been more rounded or perhaps flourished for that frame. Photography has always been an issue for me. Working on having a consistent photography set up in the shop... Thanks guys! - Brett Haynes @haynestattoos

Colour will dull black lines.look at it as colour over a black out.

Why not trace an actual photograph of a snow leopard and then add you flow to it? Why are tattooist trying to draw these things?

You can still draw your own version by using mutilple references, also you can create your own references by using AI like Dall-E or mid journey. If you just trace an image online, you can be sure that other artists will have traced the same image. There's nothing wrong with that but with all these new tools, you can easily create more original designs.

@@honesttattooerpodcast I just don’t see this as a hard thing to do. Trace to get portions right and then give it your style. Or just draw straight from reference which an artist should do easily. Especially if it’s in a illustration
