@@scarpography that movie where they go few years back and show us how previous jaegers defend earth against dozens of kaijus attacks. Where Cherno Alpha teams up with Nova Hyperion and Shaolin Rogue and that final battle when Pentecost single handedly killed onibaba. Surely u cant forget that?...?

+Jason Johnson Well, Kaiju Blue - their blood - is highly toxic, so PPDC can't let much of it be spilled during their encounters. Beating the monsters to death left much less toxic pollution for the cleanup crews to deal with.

Pacific Rim was a live-action anime. It was over-the-top, cheesy, complicated, with a plot driven by circumstances that made no sense. And guess what. I FREAKING LOVED IT!

I also loved the Marshal's name. Snooker Pentecost. Seriously, that's his name. THAT's the name of the epic badass who is so epically badass that he's in charge of all these other epic badasses, the guy who comes down from General-ish-ness to go back to unleashing epic badassery at the end of the movie, and still managed to find time to be a father to the epically badass Japanese girl whose English epically sucks. Snooker, Pentecost. I can't even say it with a straight face. But I bet no one in the Jaeger program laughs. Hey. I'd LOVE to hear the Honest Trailers guy say this guy's name. Say it: "Snooker Pentecost."

Before the final scene, this movie was really good. After the final scene (the two main characters didnt fall in love), it turned into an AMAZING MOVIE. THESE PEOPLE UNDERSTOOD NOT EVERY MOVIE NEEDS TO INCLUDE A LOVE STORY

Strange actually the final scenes was very stupid as I remember they go to the gate to the monsters world but earlier in the movie they make it clear that they can't pass this gate unless you were one of these monsters or something like that for the love story it is there unless you think there is no love story without kiss in the end the movie build the connection between them and I think they don't not kiss so people can think oh they do not love each other

kenneth dzengedza That probably wouldn’t work. For one like they said, the Kaiju’s start to adapt, so a Kaiju would eventually come out of the breach that counters those turret and destroy them then rip us. I have many other reasons why it wouldn’t work but I’m too lazy to write a whole essay. :/

lmao you guys nailed it. The whole "drift compatibility" thing was stunningly arbitrary. Only family members can do it! Ok fine this random dude and random chick can do it. And fine the Major can just Zen out and drift with anyone, apparently. And this random scientist can do it with a freaking Kaiju. And now this other random scientist is going to join the first scientist and another Kaiju in a psychic threesome. Dafuq? BOOM!! SMACK!! KA-POW!! PRETTY LIGHTS!! What was I talking about?

Neenjah Rammus Well, I believe that the movie explained that "drift compatibility" means having mostly the same types of life experiences and similar memories because if the minds do not think the same way and share the same characteristics, they will conflict with eachother and thus de-synchronize the two halves of the Jeagers that each one controls. And of course, you can drift solo, but not for more than a few hours. The Colonel even said that after drifting for 3 hours, the doctors told him he would die if he ever drifted in a Jeager again like that. Hopefully that should explain some of the techno-babble that they did to handwave the alleged arbitrariness of the drift.

Though, while you're at it please do explain how the two rival scientists share life experiences and memories with the alien.

Neenjah Rammus Well, if the drift still allows memories to flow freely between humans with different backgrounds, (albeit without the ability to properly synchronize) then it should be logical that the only difference between drifting with a human and a kaiju would be the neural overload from such a large mind and the inability to operate a jeager. Of course, if a drift is to actually work, then the neurotechnology would have to actually be capable of interfacing with both humans and kaiju. Since they pulled it off, this suggests that either kaiju share a similar brain structure with humans OR the "kaiju groupie" scientist had access to the schematics for human-kaiju drift technology. I hope that helps explain it. I'll do what I can to justify any poorly-understood element of a fictional work you may have.

WWhiteSShadow although to be fair, they didn't really DRIFT with a Kaiju, they just shared a very clumsy memory bridge. It was more like mind-reading than synchronizing. Specialy because the brain of the kaiju was already DEAD.

The Sunrise and Bandai Team are doing a real live scaled moving Gundam. The project is GUNDAM GLOBAL CHALLENGE. Run by STEM (Science Tech Engineering and Maths) experts and media pros. However is going to be only moving and with light up displays. Don't get your hopes up for a full functional one any time sooner. Cause that will be too militarized and DAM expensive!

This is a perfect example of how it's possible to make a good movie out of anything, if you're good at what you do. Just like we have so many bad movies with amazing premises showing the opposite. Which just solidifies the fact that: it doesn't matter how good the premise is: it's what you do with it that matters.

I recently got to show my dad this movie for Father's day and he overall liked it. His one gripe with the movie was that the all the major fights took place at night when it was raining.

probably to cover cgi f ups but it also makes the monsters much more intermediating and to make the COLORS look cool and the glowy parts on the kaiju look cool and they could have done it like with more time such as the striker vs mutavore fight

Using rain or fog is pretty old trick in cinema to blend background and objects together, to show that these two things are in same set. But yes, it has also been used to hide "bad" cgi (or effects in general) to make scenes faster thus reducing budget. And it makes also neat effect in futuristic movies to show us that future is so grim it's always raining in Philadelphia. So yes, it's commonly used tricks because it just works. :D

What? He made a tonne of errors. The Jaeger cant be driven by one pilot because the neural load is too much for one brain and Raley wasn't just grouped with a random stranger they all tested for drift compatibility.

To be fair, they mention that they modified Gypsy Danger, so the sword was probably added on later. They probably didn't have it in the beginning of the movie.

KhaosN7 Not really. The whole point of the jaegers was blunt trauma. In the opening monologue, Raleigh states that Kaiju blood is toxic, so using a sword or the plasma cannon without being in a last resort situation could result in contaminated water supply (hence the ocean battle where Gypsy mainly wrestles the Leatherback).

And I was wondering why these governments didn`t invest just on those laser cannons and build them all around the coastline to shoot the monsters down from a distance. Now the robots kinda make sense. Ty for the explanation. Although that makes that one robot that had 3 spinning blades as its main weapons unreasonable.

Neon Genesis Evangelion (or something like that) ADVICE: The last 3-5 episodes are morale on acid so if you will watch it for giant robots only - the singing glowing angel is the last one you need to see (you will know), the rest is hard to understand, as it makes a little sense if at all.

Frankly I'm glad for them not going for the romance. I'm tired of people shoehorning a het romance into everything these days. There's no need for it. Although, with that said, at least these two had the chemistry for it to be alright had they gone that route. Most of the time that's not the case. They just force a romance that is clearly horrid.

This was the most awesome dumb movie or most dumb awesome movie ever. The best thing is, the movie knows it's mindlessly silly but has fun with it. Using a barge as a baseball bat was just great and I give the movie credit for not having the two leads kiss at the end. Perhaps Raliegh and Mako went back to shore, then went out for a cup of coffee and it went from there.

Yea, the plot wasn't original at all, but it wasn't overly complicated. The action scenes were so fucking cool, and the best part is they were completely free of shaky-cam. One of my favourite blockbuster movies. Once again a hilarious and fantastic Honest Trailer.
