In Birds of Prey, Harley’s dad traded her for beer and when she kept coming back, he gave her to an orphanage, so I’d say traumatic parent stuff applies to her.

And Joel Kinnamon actually did a good job in this. He's usually a terrible actor but he was half way competent in this. James Gunn really is an actor's director.

Random bit of character revelation (can't exactly call it character DEVELOPMENT) tossed in there. Gunn likes to throw in some feels sometimes (though I don't remember any in Slither), but that was a bit too late in the film to matter.

@@Kris_AB I mean the details were there the whole time. Starro was kidnapped, experimented on, and tortured. Locked away for decades by madmen, and The Thinker was all too proud of whatever he did to the creature. That was just saying it out loud.

@z3n034 that's my biggest gripe with the film. Starro was killed for protecting himself and getting some revenge. It's tragic...which was probably the point of his character.

The line is sadly ruined by this version of Starro not taking over people in an easily reversible manner, but turning them into walking corpses. He killed at least hundreds of innocents, quite likely thousands.

I was expecting the film to be a lot goofier and dumber than it was, the jokes are there and they are good but they are grounded in a genuinely solid movie. It maybe wasn't Guardians great but I would happily rewatch it several times without getting bored. There's a lot of heart and it deserves to do better than it has so far

@@Arkayjiya Personally, I'd say it doesn't measure up to GotG Vol1, partly because the (intentional) similarities make this feel very familiar at points, but it's better than GotG Vol2, which failed to recapture the stuff that made the first film work so well. Still: easily DC's best film so far -- the only one that's genuinely entertaining from start to finish.
