Thanks for the video. I just made my own balancer . I used a 16 mm closed bearing for a 5/8 inch hole in my lawn mower blades. It works perfectly and I only spent a couple bucks. But you are correct they are sensitive as all get-out , but man are they accurate. Take care. T

Also remember paint thickness and paint wear pattern can throw a balancer off also. I strip all the paint off my blades prior to use. I mow 2 times a week and swap blades every 12 hours so rust isn't an issue. For long term storage I hit the blades with cheap penetrating oil.

I have that Oregon (Tecomec) Italian made balancer. It did help me make my Honda HRX run smoother. I think because I may have had the two blades heavy on the same end. I shimmed mine at the top, so it's no longer perfectly straight or plumb, with a couple washers behind it and it seems to settle faster.

That balancer is a great balancer, a bit of gear grease can slow the swing if you wish to do that. I keep mine dry. As my rule of thumb as long as that blade is not trying to go North to South I have always had great smooth results. A little movement never broke my heart. Sure beats the price of a Magnamatic and they work just the same if anyone is curious.

Make sure the cone is tight in the center hole of the blade. I lightly tap the blade near the cone to make sure its tight on the cone. I don't have the issue your talking about. Very fast and easy to use balancer.
@HexaFox
@HexaFox 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I would say those are 'balanced'. I remember Gerard from Magna Matic talking about balanced blades. It is so precise a tiny piece of paper on one of the ends of the blades could make it read as heavy on the opposite side. The point of a blade balancer is to make certain one side of your blade is not a great deal off. For instance, if it were to quickly pull to one side that would tell me one side is significantly heavier than the other. I have seen people drive themselves crazy over blades that only moved a little bit. Specifically, the right side was at four o'clock while the other side was at ten o'clock. I mean come on the blade is balanced.

Dude, your doing a great job, nice info video. May I make a suggestion if you don't mind. STOP using WD-40 to prevent rust. WD-40 is a great cleaning product, but it's real job is to 'displace water'. Get your hands on a can of MP Metal Protector from Amsoil. Before you jump to conclusions, I am NOT a distributor. I have however used Amsoil products for years. MP Metal Protector will actually do what you think WD-40 does.

Would you rather use that particular balancer or a nail? It does seem to be a bit fussy and overly sensitive. I have been thinking about buying one of these units but you have a very valid point that 5 minutes of use and the blade would be out of balance. Being a perfectionist, it might drive me up the wall.

Be interested to see if you attach the blade 180 deg after your first balance if it goes down on the other side too. Also flipping the blade to the other side.. That way you can confirm the balancer is working correct. That technique goes for any of those balancers. That how I confirmed those crappy plastic ones suck. Also I am assuming your wall is plumb. That could cause issues. I know that balancer is expensive and one of the best ones but it can be off too. Thanks for posting

1. Are you complaining that it is too accurate? Because you can just not care if it isn't perfectly level and cut your time in half. Sensitivity is directly proportional to accuracy. 2. They are not called "deburrs." De-burring is the act of removing the burrs, which is what they are called.

You’re not using the balancer correctly..The blade that moved just a tad off was balanced...If a blade was out of balance, you’re looking for it to fall to the 6 and 12 position.AND you’re looking to see how quickly it moves to the 6 and 12 position to tell how far out of balance it is...if it moves quickly(0.3 to 3 seconds) it’s far out of balance. If it moves to 6 and 12 slowly(4 to 6 seconds) it’s out of balance a little. You were taking off too much from that last blade.

The bearing balancer is very sensitive so the first few blades you put in it I would say they were close enough. There’s a certain tolerance I am ok with or else I’d be balancing and taking a little off the blades for hours. And it’s burrs not deburrs right? And it’s WD-40 not double D... ? Maybe your just being funny’/

Just bought this grinder in October 2022. It’s an understatement to say I’m disappointed to see this grinder is proudly made in….Mexico now. It’s a shame they slap that “Made in USA” sticker onto the product but can’t lie with new, cheaper Mexican motor they quietly replacing with now. The paint job on my unit is horrible (paint chips/excess everywhere). The $80 grit catcher is the same with huge gaps on the back sides. With this Mexican quality, I say just go with the Vevor knock-off and save yourself half the cost!

You don’t have to place the blade parallel. A balanced blade can be placed in any orientation and stay. It’s how we balance airplane props. We use a cone shaped bolt to hold them so they are perfectly centered. If your bolt doesn’t fit snug I guess you would have to go parallel but then it wouldn’t be consistent. With props it’s important but probably not with mower blades. My mower is absolutely smoother with my crazy balancing.
