It's 1992 and Konami are back, only not with The Simpsons 2, but a MS-DOS exclusive platformer, Bart's House of Weirdness. We have Distinctive Software developing this one, around the time they turned into EA Canada. It's a pretty obscure game which could mean anything, potentially even that it's good?

I just found out this game existed and it kinda blew my mind that I entirely missed a retro Simpsons game this detailed. You have the best video detailing it that I can find.

I think the opening "Go to your room" / Homer & Marge shadows are references or scenes from 'Do the Bartman' 🤔

Actually its from “deep deep trouble,” another simpsons song, but with bart rapping.

@@Nickolasthegamer492No it isn't, although Deep Deep Trouble does have some very similar scenes, that one is from Do the Bartman, specifically the beginning of the second verse "Homer was yelling, mom was too, because I put moth balls in the beef stew".

Recently came across this channel and have been really liking these Simpsons deep dives. Going into the history, the time for context and even the console itself is very much appreciated and adds a lot to the video. I strongly appreciate that unlike a lot of gaming channels, you're not screaming or yelling out forced, obscene jokes. You also point out a lot of the good in these games, which is fantastic. Overall, these are great quality and you have a great understanding of games while keeping the era in mind and not trying to compare 'this game came out in 1980 so it's not as good as this from 2020'. Only advice I'd give is when you mention the sound or music, maybe play a sample or up the audio. It's often times very hard or impossible to actually hear the game (which when you're talking, is perfect. But when you mention the audio we can't quite hear it to know what you are talking about specifically). Looking forward to seeing more from you, Simpsons games (or licensed in general, actually) are very interesting when you go into the history/culture around that era and how they got made

First of all, thank you for watching the series and all the nice feedback! I've had a good response to these videos which is always great, as I plan to make a lot of videos to make sure I cover all the Simpsons games. I didn't start out wanting to include much history, but I think the context is important and have been trying to flesh out the intro part more with each video. Don't think I've fully got that balance right yet, but it's certainly something I want to keep for each game. I try to put some jokes in as it can help break things up, but comedy definitely isn't the point of these videos and never want them to distract from what I'm talking out. I'm glad the positive points are coming through! I never want to make a video which is just complaining about a game, as that can be hard to watch for 40 mins but with how flawed these games are, it's hard to avoid complaining. Bart vs the World was a tricky one and so was this honestly, but if the positive stuff is coming through and it feels semi-balanced, then that's great to hear! On your last point about the audio, this was an intentional decision based on my own experience from watching videos. When a video stops to play music, always found it a bit annoying, it breaks the pacing and never really liked it. I get your point though, if I'm going to talk about the music, then giving people the chance to hear it makes sense. The same as if you talk about a certain level, you show it on screen so people know what you're talking about. Might try it for the next video and see how it feels. I absolutely LOVE how there's a top ten high score leaderboard on a single player home computer game. As if they think you're going to play and beat this more than 10 times. It really is just the final insult.

Good review! I haven't thought about this game in like 30+ years! My parents got this for me as a Christmas gift when I was really young as I loved The Simpsons. However, after booting it up and playing for like 20 minutes, I just couldn't be bothered to keep playing. Even as a kid, I knew this game was poorly designed. They also unfortunately got me the DOS version of Mega Man 3. It was not a fun Christmas. 😅 Honestly, the only Simpsons games I even remotely enjoyed during the early '90s was The Simpsons Arcade Game (the official version, not DOS version) and Krusty's Super Fun House. I mean, Krusty's Super Fun House isn't a great game by any stretch (think a poor man's Lemmings), but it was still more fun than any of the earlier Simpsons games.

I can't believe I've never heard of this game and it looked so promising that I got excited seeing it's a 90's MSDOS game but watching you play I'll definitely take your word for it that it's frustrating. It's unfortunate too because you can tell they really put a lot of effort into the graphics and presentation. I also love that vintage Yamaha Adlib music which makes me feel warm and fuzzy like most Genesis/Megadrive games back then too with so many variations of the theme song. Maybe this game was rushed without any real play testing or debugging to iron out the kinks and it's funny Konami of all people published it with zero marketing it seems.

I've always been curious about this one, but man, it looks incredibly frustrating. I'm pretty sure I've read - more than once - that this is partly point & click, that's hilarious that so many have clearly played 2 minutes of the game before writing a blurb!
