Hong Kong’s iconic neon-soaked streets are losing their luster due to new safety regulations. An estimated 500 signs remain, down from the peak of 150,000. Janis Mackey Frayer reports on the residents who fear the city is losing an essential part of its identity.

how many typhoons have hit Hong Kong since 1950's ? Not a real reason to get rid of them

Hong Kong must have been amazing to see in person. Sad that it's losing something so significant.

It’s looks worse than Detroit in some places. It’s a filthy crowed place, and the last place in China with poverty.

A Hong Kong without its neon signs is like New York without its huge advertisement filled screens or Las Vegas without all its casinos. It just isn't the same without them as they all make up what made them all so recognizable. Without them, they would just be like any other boring old city in these countries.
