Still remember this very tournament which had been telecasted here in Sri Lanka by MTV which later became Sirasa TV. Sanath Jayasuriya and Aravinda De Silva played brilliantly during the whole tournament. If I'm not mistaken, it had not been a live telecast though, but one with a few hours shift. The golden days of the game of Cricket ..., even this six-a-side tournament held annually at Hong Kong had been represented by sides having their top most players up until late '90s ....

Between 1987 to 1993 England fielded good limited overs teams then declined sharply after that for decades. However you can see here Sri Lanka was becoming a force to be reckoned with in world cricket by reaching the final here also the core of the Sri lankan team that was to win the world cup 3 years later and dominate limited overs cricket in the world for 15 years was by now put together. Around this time people were taking notice of Sri Lanka where they were making the transition from minnows to world beaters. It was starting to happen around this time. The Sri Lanka team here was a taste of what was to come from Sri Lanka in the future finally starting to shed their minnows status.

No, not at all, a completely ignorant comment to say the least .... The likes of Graham Gooch, John Emburey, Neil Fairbrother, Phil Defreitas, Dermot Reeve, etc. retired from the international games only a few years later (Gooch and John Embury retired in '95. The rest of them played a few more years too, some went onto represent England in WorldCup '96 and Worldcup '99 as well.). By 1993, they all had been active playing international games. The others like Gladstone Small too had last played internationally only a year ago in '92 and had been pretty much active during the first class county championship at the time ....

They both retired in '95, so they had been pretty active playing international games at the time in '93. In fact, Gooch had been captaining the side in both tests and ODIs then.
