Actually, the ranks on the side is either Sergeant or Sergeant first class. The regular sentinels are E-4 Specialists

Negative.. The guards are hard stripers either private through Corporal. The Inspectors are either Sergeants through Staff Sergeants. The crowd briefers are usually SSgt through SFC. MSgt on up are running and managing the Operational side. Any Specialist are usually working communications, medical service corps, motor pool, or animal groomers. This is the Old Guard Infantry which means they are 11B MOS. If my rank abbreviations don't match what the Army uses it's because I'm a former Marine, but also prior service Army Ft Lewis 9th Infantry Division in the 1970's OCTOFOIL.

What we see is purely ceremonial. The other sentinels inspect the outgoing soldier before he walks the line to inspection.
