I read J.Jamerson ➡ I click Like, it's automatic. Phenomenal what this guy does with an index finger and 4 frets. Good job & good luck.

Dude, thank you so much for actually analyzing the basslines and including the chords! Really great stuff.

Great video! Perhaps nice for your viewers to know: LaBella also makes Low Tension Flats. And after a while they sound every bit the same as the 110-52 flats Jamerson used without killing your hands, neck and eagerness to play. 🖖

Great playing and great video. And I laughed out loud at your trouser joke. All around good stuff.

I’m laughing to myself on the last song. My friends used to catch me mimic that stop and go baseline using my head and shoulders as a kid. They thought I was from another planet because I had that thing nailed. It is my opinion that you don’t really “get” Jamerson till you can move a body part to what he’s doing. I think it started with Gladys’ grapevine. There’s really no music that you can’t fully comprehend if you can comprehend James.

I love seeing you guys unpack Jamerson but I hate (not really hate) to hear people that have cracked the code say how simple it is. Nobody cracked the code in Jamersons heyday and he knew it. It’s the anticipation of where the group would land that separated him from the pack. Like in “can’t hurry love.” People still don’t play that right to this day because of that “beat the band” mind trick that he does on certain songs. It still deceives. Very well. Carry on. Absolutely great video.

Absolutely. I’m sure I was careful to say there is a very rough “formula” as such, but it goes much deeper than that. He was one of a kind. The gamification of music educational content sucks too - eg “this HACK will SUPERCHARGE your bass playing” 😱 Clickbait stuff designed for high viewing metrics. If I ever make stuff like that, direct me back to this comment!

To me it sounds like he played the A on the 2nd fret on "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". That would make the most sense in terms of how he usually played (coming from the upright bass background).
