Randy Jaffe is obviously a man of fine taste, and one with a serious affinity for vintage Nissans and Datsuns. To a point where his collection more or less encapsulates the entire history of Datsun race machinery. His collection has Larry so geeked out, that we straight up filmed a one hour and twenty minute special of his wild collection.

GREETINGS FROM COLORADO, LARRY! Thank you so much for this series. I grew up in CT in the 60's and 70's and you and Randy have provided memories that, because I inhaled in the 60's and 70's...were LONG gone. I've had to trim my Hoonigan watching time down to essentially just you. Since the old garage, Ken Block, Scotto, you and the guys (and a few gals) came into being there's just so much stuff that NObody can keep up with all that they woulda, coulda, shoulda wanna watch. Your sense of history, your cars, your shoots are always as good as 'it' gets. All that I want and can handle. So. Thank you so much to you and your crew...AND everyone at everything Hoongan.

I remember seeing those GTP cars at Sears Point. I was just a kid in high school and I was watching the cars come out of the Esses, going into the hairpin. I literally said "you can see the downforce". The tunnels under the car were amazing to see in action. The RealTime Acuras were there as well in a support race. What a day!

I just found this video today. I have been a Datsun fan since the early 70's, and am thrilled someone is taking good care of these iconic masterpieces. I did have to pause when they began talking about the 620 Kingcab. There is a lot of misinformation concerning year models. I have even had several so-called Datsun experts who have tried to convince me the Kingcab started in 1977, along with the 5 speed transmission. As a 19 year old, in June of 1976, I purchased the first Kingcab sold in Chattanooga, Tn from Standefer Datsun. It was Eggshell white, with a 4 speed, and was titled as a 1976 truck. I was told by Buzz Standefer there would be no 5 speed trucks until the 1977 model year, which was due in November or December of 1976. He told me all 1976 Kingcab trucks were either 4 speed or automatic. I currently own a truck ( a 4 speed), that was manufactured in June of 1976, and has been titled as a 1976 truck since new. There are probably only a handful of true 76 Kingcabs left, and I think it is important that there is distinction. The only way I have been able to find that differentiates these trucks is the center console, and 5 speed tranny. My current truck has the correct 76 console, and that is the first thing I look at if someone claims to have a 76 truck. Maybe I am nitpicking, but as these vehicles go up in value, it is important, and there aren't many people left with first hand experience with them. Over the years I have owned 8 620 trucks, 4 of them have been Kingcabs, and have logged nearly 1 million miles in 620 trucks. I can honestly say that owning and driving a 620 is the most fun I have ever had in something with 4 wheels and a steering wheel. That includes cutting my teeth on go-karts, farm equipment, a Z-car, and trucks and cars of all shapes and sizes. There is nothing like getting into a stoplight match with a Super duty, a Duramax, or some other unsuspecting victim, starting off in second gear sort of easy and holding second gear to 60 mph (about 6700 rpm), and watching the other driver beating on their steering wheel. But the most fun is on a twisty road. Yeah, I know a 510 or Z will eat my truck alive, but very few people expect a little truck to handle like a kart. The coolest thing thing is that you can run through the gears, like you are in a race, and the cops don't even pay attention. Fun stuff!

I was one of the first guys to sign up for one of the Vintage Z's back before they actually started selling them. The Houston Chronicle actually interviewed me for an article, asking questions like "What attracts you to the Z and why do you want to buy one of these>" I found out a few weeks later that they wanted $25k for the car. Being a young guy with very little money to spare I had to back out of the deal. Man do I wish I would have figured out how to pull it off. But, I wouldn't have been able to do the car justice. It would have sat outside and rusted in an apartment parking lot. I finally got my '72 240z in 2008 and have been restomodding it ever since. It will probably go to my son when I'm gone.
