I just bought my uncles 97 Montero SR but it's mega rough, to the point where paying 600$ felt way too much. It runs... kinda but were gonna take off the heads and give it a refresh as well as sorting out all the leaks which is alot man. But it's a cool truck nonetheless

Nice build brother. If you want to get more travel on the front suspension, there is a company from italy that sells a upper control arm kit that supposedly allows for 2" more travel (in droop obviously). Although I own two second gens, I haven't tried this long travel kit yet. Anyways, thanks for showing your build. It's really awesome to see that some people are picking up on the second gen pajeros. Five years ago I thought no one would care for them anymore and that they all would just slowly disappear..

Awesome build! $5k is nothing for what that thing can do. The tradeoff is you’ve got like hundreds of hours of labor into it (probably like $10k if you had to pay a mechanic to do everything you’ve done). So rad, keep it up!

Awesome video! I just picked up a 95 SR that smokes and has a top end knock for replacing a water pump on a friends truck. Everything seems to work on it and I think I scored big time with this rig. Thanks for sharing this, I plan on making it an off road toy and got a lot of insight from your video.

What an awesome rig, what an awesome build! Nice Vid!!! Firstly, so true what you say at the end, being a unique, special and capable rig, 100% agreed! Secondly, I can't believe how the rig stands right now, for the money you have spent! Absolutely mind blowing, Toyota and Jeep can shove it! I really love your idea of the removable/relocatable winch, never seen or thought of that before, I like the idea, I meant steal that for my own rig.... Keep up the good work and keep the vids coming, can't wait to see more, I definitely need to catch up and watch your other vids! A lot of things you have going on I definitely want to incorporate into my Pajero/Montero.

Nice build! I’ve got a 98 winter pkg very similar to yours down in CO. I’ve had minor overheating issues above 10,000 ft with mine and am very interested in this fan upgrade. Do you have the SPAL part number and the thermoswitch you used? Also, I’ve looked at the wiring diagram for the fan but it’s not super clear how it’s triggered. Could you explain what wires you spliced into for your relay? Thanks for the help!
@montanamontero
@montanamontero Жыл бұрын
Spal 30102025 is the part number. This mod does require some good DIYing. the thermo state switch is a really old style that i had laying around i would opt for an inline one for the upper radiator hose instead. these fans work on a ground side switch, so the wires just hook up the same as the original fan. depending on your application, and switch style, you will need to do different wiring so that will have to be up to your own research

I’m picking up a gen 2.5 winter package like yours thanks to your video! Only question I have is that the previous owner put 3 in body lift to clear 35, so it has a big bumper gap. I’m pretty sure I can make so brackets to lift up the front, but I’m not sure about the rear. If I lift the rear bumper up, will the bumper interfere with the 35 spare on the rear door? Yours looks like it clear perfectly!
@montanamontero
@montanamontero 9 ай бұрын
i only have a 2" on mine and i cleared 35"s no issue. so maybe consider dropping it down an inch. but yes you can make brackets for them. front isn't hard, rear might be a little bit more work but with enough welding skill it can be done. or you can chop and lift the frame in the rear

Hello from Gympie Queensland Australia We call them a Pajero here And we and the steering wheel is on the correct side.. ha ha All jokes aside... The 3.5 quad cam ... Same as yours had a 40mm body lift from factory here. Over the 3.0 and 3.5 sohc .. it appears that yors do to from the images of the body construction of the body mount Infront of the rear wheel ??? If so do you think you can run 35s with no body lift and just a 2 inch spring lift . As that is all we can do here??? PS we can only go 2 inch bigger in the tyre then factory . Yer Australia law sux.. I have 2 of them. ,,96 pajeros .. Soon to be 3.. All good bud. Enjoy Other 4x4s. GQ patrol twin locked . Isuzu mux!! Don't scratch or bend it car!,!!; I drive a truck and lift heavy things. . Ha ha Just bought a dodge d5n 400 1978 as a project.. Hemmy. Cheers bud

How reliable are these old Pajero/montero engines? 2.5 or 2.8 diesels? In my country I dont really want to buy a petrol engined suv. I have a feeling that diesel engines last longer
@Harry_Gersack
@Harry_Gersack 6 күн бұрын
The 2.8 basically runs forever. The 2.5 has a not so good reputation because apparently they crack the head sometimes. But as far as I know they changed the head design somewhere along the line and fixed that problem. At least that's what my engine builder told me. I have a 2.5 with 210k on the clock and it's still going strong. The 2.5 is the slowest of all second gens though

I wouldn't say less electrical headaches. What I can tell you is that the less options you have, the less problems you will have. I have a 2.5td with the EasySelect 4wd it has never made any trouble. (EasySelect is the sytem that's completely mechanical, without the center differential. When you put it in 4wd the center is always locked) My 3.5DOHC with SuperSelect on the other hand has had some electrical issues and the adjustable shocks stopped working But after all neither of them has ever left me stranded
