HooptieDoodle makes a leaf spring front suspension for the Grom Reaper build ( • Grom Reaper ) from scratch using trailer leaf springs and a mountain bike damper.

You could have taken the spacers off the shock absorber and mount it to the axel between the pivot plates.

Lathes, mr benderson, multiple high priced welders.. harbor freight angle finder lol. Coming along well. Been waiting on the front end build to HRL me with a bicycle springer I’m building in my head. Lol

Would putting the wheel in the center of the linkage fix the blowback problem I’m not sure

came to say this. the linkage is too vertical and allows it to rotate back. Also the dampener is bottoming out and will damage it. great looking fork though

Good work ! Just started fabricating my own leaf spring front end - trying to get my head around a floating disc break caliper🤷‍♂️ so please hurry up with the next video 😂 btw to prevent overshot would it not be prudent to have stops on your rockers so you can dispense with the shock ?

Yeah, I had the thought of bump stops of the sort you mentioned on the rockers, but I also felt it would benefit from some dampening and the shock dampener accomplished both. I am still not 100% confident in this thing and looking to see how it rides...

That headlight on that spring is going to vibrate off it would look way cooler if you put it on the actual forks

Very Nice i Dream to build one for my bike too. But i have a question. The leaf is only hold under the tree by the square piece of steel and 4 bolts ?

Yes. Its held on by that 1/4" piece of steel.

@@HooptieDoodle thanks for the answer. But if the front wheel meet a big hole, the leaf May bend a lot, cant it slip away from the space between the tree and the square piece?

@@arter8 anything is possible, but the wheel has a limited travel range due to the links between the wheel and the fork. Like 2-3". It's not much of a suspension, really. It's also a lightweight bike. The forces acting upon the spring are pulling it against the plate, not trying to pull it out from between the plate and the bottom triple clamp. I can't imagine this vehicle being able to generate the forces, both in strength and direction, to be able to pull the spring from its clamp. I could add a rod going through the spring from the plate, or triple, to guard against the catastrophe you mentioned. I may do that. I have yet to really test this suspension, so we'll see how it behaves. Keep in mind that I am no engineer, so I might be completely wrong and possibly dangerous ☠

Thanks to take the time to give me a détailed answer. I saw no rod as à guard like you mentionned on aftermarket leaf springer to. So maybe its not necessary you are probably right! I ll keep following your work. Cheers from France

Isn’t the damper working in the wrong direction? Dampers have different damping rates for compression and rebound. The way it is mounted the damper works in reverse than normally. When the suspension compresses the damper extends(rebound) and vice versa.

When the wheel hits a bump, it travels upward, compressing the dampener and pulling on the spring. The dampener is working just as you say it should.

@@HooptieDoodle Oh sorry, you are right. I was getting confused with with where the wheel is mounted in this setup. I looked at the video again and it works as it should. Ignore what I said :D

@@marcelpursche5339 it may not be wrong to suspect that this suspension will not work well - I know I have my doubts at this point 😀. We'll have to see how it goes down the road...

Hay any of you guys that have more money then you know what to do with can you help a brother out and get him a deal on a Kawasaki kz900 1000 or a Honda CB900 something to make a good cafe racer out of, l miss riding a bike so much just can't afford one so if you want ,one of u guys that have more money then you know what to do with and really want to help a biker friend and make him more happier than anything in this world . someone could please help me find a decent deal I live in Tennessee and really miss riding especially this time of the year ,spring.
