Impressed by this video actually - not often a manufacturer shows you how to fully service their products - instead they usually want to you just ditch it, and buy a new one; or they want you to take it to a specialist, to overhaul it for a lot of cash.

The blue grease used by Hope in their hub's is Mobilgrease XHP™ 222 (It's mentioned in one off their other videos) I believe it is a marine grease. How often do you recommend a hub clean/service? I do my dt swiss 240 every 5000k but the red grease on the ratchet rings gets grey and dirty after 500k already. I checked the pawls on my hope rs4 after 3000k and the blue grease was still crazy fresh and basically new. The green seal is phenomenal! Other question: My friend has the pro 4 on his hardtail and i thought about upgrading my rs4 2ratched freehub to a 4 ratched freehub just because of the sound. He runs his hub dry to be louder. Is this bad for the hub? does it get hot on long fast descends? Last question: Can the theeth inside the hub be replaced too? can i screw them out like on my dt 240? if so how often do you recommend this. my rs4 hubs have already 8000k of winter and wet riding now and deserve some love even if they don't realy need it.

You can’t push it out from more than just the one edge- there’s a sleeve in the way. All you can access is one little bit of edge of the bearing. But it’s fine, it’s not pressed in that hard. It’ll pop right out without damaging the bearing.

@Adam-vm8kp2 жыл бұрын
Hopes site has product documents for everything, inc part numbers. If you can’t remove an axle from a hope hub you probably shouldn’t be doing it. You tap it out with a mallet which will take a bearing with it and you either tap out or extract the other bearing with a slide hammer.
@peterwogan90492 жыл бұрын
@@Adam-vm8kp All done and dusted, ooh, over a year ago now, thanks Adam, just prior to a full wheel build and bike build, but it's a fair point you make and yes, many should probably leave it alone. Nothing in my comment suggested I couldn't do it, rather that I'd prefer not to go at it with a socket set and a screwdriver. The comment above was probably made in frustration; I love Hope and their products, but as I recall I had been sold a bearing drift or similar for a Pro 2 that was listed as being for a Pro 4 by a shop that shall remain nameless. In fairness they can't control how some of their dealers list or sell their product. It would seem easier to make complete service kits available direct from Hope for each generation of hub rather than chasing through part numbers and hoping they've been listed correctly by your bike shop of choice. Apparently 7 people above and about 40 people below feel similarly.

There is a ciclip in the microspline that I didn't see in this video
@Adam-vm8kp Жыл бұрын
@@jonnystark2912 ah sorry yes you are right I forgot about that. The hyper glide shimano body has the bearings pressed in from either side, whereas the microspline has both bearings pressed in from one side so the circlip is to stop the first bearing walking out. Circlip pliers to get it out then pull the last bearing, press a new one all the way in and then push the circlip back and it will snap into its groove just above the bearing seat, I’d pack the entire of the cavity between the two bearings with grease as the ms bodies go through bearings faster in my experience.
