I'm in a similar "situation", my family are also Orthodox (I still haven't told them my thoughts about religion). I first was constantly trying to "prove" God and "debate" non-religious people. I eventually found Deism (8th grade) and I was very intrigued. I soon began to question religion and considered myself a Deist. I am currently in 10th grade and consider myself a mixture between an Agnostic, Humanist and Deist. It is really hard because people don't know how hard it is to come out as non-religious, I haven't really told anyone yet. I don't want to tell my parents because I feel like I will make them sad/mad. How did you "come out"? I'm going through a really tough time so any tips will help.

We are an unlikely combination of chemicals that gained consciousness and regains life by where we are in the universe. HOwever, our existence isn't so unlikely that we can definitively say that it is irrational to believe this happenstance. THis because the universe is so vast - and our existence so tiny in terms of time (remember universe is 13.7 billion years old) that it actually becomes probable enough to deduce that we don't need God creating us. We were just at the right time at the right place in this infinitely sized universe

I feel that we can explain science, but we still don't have the answers at all as a society. The reason that we have such tremendous social issues, is because we've left God behind. Think about it this way. You say letting go of God would save lives, but think about how many lives could have been saved if we followed God's word.
