Fight giant War of the Worlds -style tripods and other invading aliens in this chaotic action roguelike game, set in freezing cold Finland during the '90s. Form your own army by hiring local townspeople with various skills. Collect items to give you powerful abilities and to increase stats.

This was really fun to watch for like 15-20minutes. After that the lack of enemy variety and the same´y gameplay took their toll. The rather slow unlock progression was the final nail in the coffin

Purchased this for the originality alone! I really appreciate when autobattlers like this have original settings & premises instead of just slightly skewed fantasy

Talking about how the Survivors-like/horde survival/bullet heaven genre feels like it has arcade roots: The Vampire Survivors dev worked in the gambling industry, and used his knowledge of how to manipulate people to gamble more to try and make something as good at giving dopamine hits and getting people into that focused flow state, but without being predatory. (Which led to issues when making a mobile port, as companies wanted to add microtransactions, and he refused.) And the arcade game industry and gambling industry have long been hand in hand in trying to milk consumers.

Retro the lasers coming across the screen are the snipers!! So cool🤣

You can hear the sniper shoot and see the health bar decrease by a margin. I think the wizard is beneficial if you want to elinate units faster, but your fire rate build is just illusive.

They need to fix the damage areas not going away right when enemies die. Would also be nice if they showed charging instead of just being a flat square as well as opacity. There's so many on top of each other you have hidden ones inside that you can't tell are about to go off sooner. The little rim outline is just not enough.

fire rate and raw damage are multiplicative, fire rate is better than flat damage at a certain point.

Just for the record, there are plenty of games like this that came out before Vampire Survivors. Vampire Survivors just became the most popular among them.

@@Retromation My comment is more about the use of the phrase "inspired by" that KZfaqrs tend to throw out there when games are similar to a very popular one

Sure, but to pretend that 95% of the games in the genre that came out after Vampire Survivors were inspired by a game that came out ages ago and not the recent bandwagon trend is woefully out of touch. The reason you probably hear KZfaqrs saying it often is because we get the e-mails from the devs _telling us it is inspired by Vampire Survivors, etc._
