Thank you sooooo much for your videos. I'm in the market for a new treadmill and this one is most likely the one I'm buying. I like to get as much of a review on a product before I buy it, and I love the fact that your reviews are REAL, you're not just trying to push a sale. Plus I love the fact that you're doing reviews AFTER a certain time period as well as stating the ups and downs. Some products start out great, but go downhill quickly, so again, THANK YOU for such a great review.

Great detailed review. You've really covered all the major real world application questions anybody would have and then some. I appreciate the in depth analysis and reference to your previous treadmills and experiences. That context really helped me to make the decision to buy this model. Please post a video next time you have to lube the belt. I think that would be very helpful. Thanks!

Thanks for your previous reviews, they helped me make my decision to get the same model. I bought the slightly newer version of the Horizon 7.0 AT-04 through Canadian Tire as Horizon won't ship to us in BC. There are a few minor differences: USB and audio ports are moved Speed/incline +/- keys around the middle dial are now play/pause controls for audio (I haven't used them) Speed/incline quick keys are now under the cupholders Trim pieces are black instead of blue on the top (doesn't fit great, but whatever) I have been trying to use the AFG Pro app, it took probably an hour to get the app connected the first time and it's been somewhat reliable ever since. It's slow to load & connect (maybe a minute). It gets the job done to adjust & start the "First 5K" program, but it's a pretty lackluster app.
@BGRFamily

Thanks for the run down on the differences with the newer version. Hopefully that will be useful for viewers! I have to agree the AFG Pro app is not great - I remember fighting with it to get the users set up and have not used it since.

@@BGRFamily We've had ours for about 2 weeks and so far we're happy with it. Two things we have noticed: We get shocked when touching the frame after running hands free for a bit. I wish the manual had instructions on how to do simple things through the interface, such as change the machine from miles to km. I found instructions on Horizon's FAQ, but the manual mentions nothing.

I have the same treadmill over a year and half now I got this one since they stopped making the peloton model at that time. I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing the belt lubricant that you got from Amazon? That’s genius because it’s a pain to looses and tighten the belt so often you’re totally right

I purchased the bottle from the link below (its an Amazon Canada link but should give you something to start with). After I used it up I filled with the normal Johnson Fitness / Horizon bottles that they sell. When I first got this, there didn't seem to be a lot of options but when I look now there seems to be several companies specifically selling treadmill lubricant in these kinds of bottles - so definitely hunt around as there could be good cheaper options out there now. www.amazon.ca/100-Silicone-Treadmill-Lubricant-Application/dp/B0153WN84E/ref=d_pd_sbs_sccl_3_2/143-1995043-2162521?pd_rd_w=wauyI&content-id=amzn1.sym.c1849561-aea0-48eb-b576-ba648ed69471&pf_rd_p=c1849561-aea0-48eb-b576-ba648ed69471&pf_rd_r=FV9G8DMF7G541NSFX785&pd_rd_wg=xfRDz&pd_rd_r=750ecd73-1ba5-4a76-99a3-6c25b857a70c&pd_rd_i=B0153WN84E&psc=1 Thanks for watching!

Good review. I juts broke the deck on my proform. This is the one I’m leaning on. I like that it has built in leveling feet which apparently is uncommon on treadmills under 2k. Hopefully this one will last as I’m a bigger guy at 260 and run usually at a speed of 7-8.

Hope it works out for you. With a similar size and run speeds, I have broken the deck on treadmills from this brand as well. But these decks are an easy replacement at least. Our last treadmill was a Nordictrack which is under the same umbrella as proform, and it was awful to change the deck on.

@@BGRFamily Thanks for your response! Just to pick your mind a bit more if you don't mind. Would you say the Horizon 7.4 would be worth the upgrade for the price with the stronger motor, heavier weight capacity and longer warranty?
@BGRFamily
@BGRFamily 3 ай бұрын
Honestly, we wanted to go with the 7.4 for the wider deck as well as for the other items you mention, but when we were buying the 7.4 was out of stock. That and we got the 7.0 on a deal that was $400-500 off at the time and the 7.4 didn't have the same deal listed even if it was in stock. That would have been hard to justify the price difference. I think for most people the extra year of labor is definitely worth something, but the real selling point for the 7.4 for me is the extra 2 years of parts even without the labor. Being decently handy, I find this brand to be pretty straight forward to install new parts so the extra 2 years of being able to keep it running is worth a fair bit to me. Hope that helps!
@cbarbery
@cbarbery 8 ай бұрын
Great videos! I am debating between this model and the 7.4. Leaning towards the 7.0 because it occupies less space, weighs less (second floor install) and overall cost ($600 USD less than 7.4 out the door). Do you think you would have run into your belt and deck issues with the larger 7.4? Have you run into any more belt or deck issues after your 10 months? Any other repairs needed? Would you still recommend the unit?
@BGRFamily
@BGRFamily 8 ай бұрын
We do still recommend the treadmill - no additional issues beyond what was in the video have occurred. The thicker deck might have helped with the original deck/belt issues but the original issue was really due to a too focused wear down in one spot - so, I don't think it would have made much of difference in the end. In the end, we don't regret getting the 7.0 and if you were restricted in space and the ability to get the treadmill to where you need it to go, I personally would lean to the 7.0 for your use case. Hope that helps!

Great review! I just got this treadmill and everything is working well except I keep bumping the speed and incline rollers with my hand by accident. Is there anyway to lock in a speed/incline or disable the dial rollers?
@BGRFamily
@BGRFamily Жыл бұрын
I don't know if there is a way to lock out the controls but what we do is use the interval setting buttons on the handles to set our desired speed and incline. That way, if we bump one of the rollers we can quickly hit the button and set it back to what we want without fiddling around too much. It's probably not ideal but it works for us. So what we do is get up to the speed and incline we want and then press and hold one of the buttons on the handles until there is a bit of a flash and beep. Then if we bump the rollers we will just quickly hit the button to reset to what we saved. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

Hi, I was wondering how wide the treadmill belt is? I ordered a replacement belt from Horizon for my 7.0AT 2018 model and they sent me a belt that was .5 inches wider (19.5" instead of 19") and the wider belt catches the side rail when I'm running on it.
@BGRFamily
@BGRFamily Жыл бұрын
Ours measures just under 19.5" width wise. There is not a lot of room between the edge of the belt and the side rail on our machine, but there is no rubbing - the side rails are high enough off the deck that the belt would almost need to be curling up on the sides to rub though. Hope you can get it sorted! Thanks for watching

Hi there. Watched your 7 week video and thought you two were wonderful. Thank you for your sincerity. I'm going back and forth about purchasing the 7.0 or the7.4. Considering the 7.4 because of its Sprint 8 program. It sounds like you both do HIIT, could you share with me if you easily program HIIT using the two buttons on side of sticks or do you wish you had the Sprint 8 option - preset HIIT workouts. Thank you. And for your thoroughness!! Happy New Year and keep on keeping on.
@BGRFamily
@BGRFamily 6 ай бұрын
Hi there, thanks for watching! I don't have any experience with the Sprint 8 program so I can't really do a real comparison myself. There are some parts of doing it manually with two side buttons that a program could help make easier for sure. Here is what we do: 1. start the treadmill and get it to up to one of the two speeds that you want to program, usually I do the slower speed first and press and hold the left button until the get the acknowledgement that the setting is programmed 2. get up to the second speed (higher speed for me) and I then press and hold the right button until the setting is saved. 3. I then start my work out and use a short press on whichever side button I need. This does work for us, but it can be a bit fiddly to get the higher speed button set to what you want if you are really pushing it at the higher setting. It can also be a bit tricky to get the lower speed setting button to trigger when you are pushing it as well - since you hit the button with your thumb while holding the grip it means at the higher pace run, you need to grab on and then hit the button - can be tricky for sure. Alternative there though is to use the speed roller on the right stick to quickly bring you speed down to a safer speed to grab the handle and hit the button. Hope that helps!

I wonder if you guys since you use it so much would have benefited with the 7.4 or 7.8 models since I heard heat from the motor and rollers and belt is what can make a treadmill fail and wear very fast. I would probably lubricate the deck more often maybe.
@BGRFamily
@BGRFamily 2 жыл бұрын
We heavily considered the 7.4 for the added size, robustness and additional warranty but it was not in stock and after several weeks of waiting for a restock, we pulled the trigger on the 7.0 instead. We felt the 7.8 was too large a price difference for features we weren't going to use. With any of our other treadmills from the same parent company, we never had motor or roller issues, just the deck and belt - which does make sense as they are the pieces taking the direct pounding. Potentially lubricating more often could be useful but there is a risk with over lubricating the deck in increasing the chance of the belt slipping - which is not something you want happening either! Thanks for watching

At a minimum I record total distance and overall time but will usually also record speed/pace, incline, any interval work & which shoes I ran in. When I was heavily training for multiple marathons and ultras, I would also record all the info in a spreadsheet where I could track overall mileage for the week versus training planned miles, also if I ran inside and outside and what conditions were like. Tracking is very important to help you get better over time and to help encourage you if you get frustrated at some point. I would start by being very basic but as you really get into running, there are so many variables, and you will want to track many of them to be really able to see how far you have come. For example, if you just record distance and time, when you look back later you might wonder why one run was really slow...and forget that you did it outside in a foot of snow.... Hope that helps. @BGRFamily
@BGRFamily 2 жыл бұрын
The crappy one was a NordicTrack - awful controls, the deck cushioning sucked too much energy out of the legs when running, maintenance and repair was not good (belt replacement requires almost a full dismantle of the deck portion) and don't get me started on the iFit software crashing turning the whole machine into a 300 pound underpowered android tablet. We did look a bit at Soles and they had good reviews and we heavily considered the Horizon 7.4 (but there were stock issues at the time). I don't remember looking at Lifespans specifically though - so can't speak to those. Our major drivers were solid manual controls that didn't force the use of apps and ease of maintenance, and the Horizon fit the bill for us there. The runDisney events are definitely a lot of fun - recommended for sure once things return more to normal. Thanks for watching!

I find that the belt is hard to center. Does your belt say horizon? Every time I walk I have to adjust it one way or another. I try to keep the same tension because I know that isn’t good for the belt to be too tight. I just go a quarter turn at a time.
@BGRFamily
@BGRFamily Жыл бұрын
Hi there, our belt does not say horizon on it. We don't have any issues with keeping belt centered but did have an issue with that for a previous treadmill. With that one, the issue was that the treadmill was not leveled from one side to other at the back. The front was fine but with the back not level it caused a bit of a warp that caused the belt to pull to one side. That is maybe one thing you can check. Not sure if that will help, but good luck on getting it sorted out!

I watched your video a few times. I never got a notification to lube the belt. I only had treadmill for 2 months. For some reason the belt keeps sliding to the left. I didn’t count the turns, when tightening it. I lubed it but it slowly slides.
@BGRFamily
@BGRFamily 4 ай бұрын
I think there could be a few reasons why that occurs, but if you did adjust the belt, it is likely that some minor adjustments need to be done. If it slow slides to the left, either the left side is too loose or the right side is too tight. I would likely start with the assumption the left side is too loose and go from there. To correct it, you need to turn the left bolt clockwise to tighten up the left side. Turn it about a quarter turn and test, and continue until it stays steady and doesn't drift. After you do that, I would check to see how tight the belt is overall - if it seems extremely tight and stretched, I would back loosen both sides an equal amount and check everything again. It can be a bit finicky to get everything lined up properly, which is the main reason I generally lube the belt now without loosening everything. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZqZh65evqi6Z6s.html Hope that helps!

Ok guys I have to know, what treadmill did you guys absolutely hate and why? You mentioned it and that you basically gave up on it before it's time, so I must know??? Great video and true this is a great treadmill to own and run on!

It was a Nordictrack C 1750 (2014 model) bought new in Jan 2015 - on paper it was a fantastic machine, robust, long warranty, decent price, and lots of features. In practice it had some major issues for us: 1. Capacitive style touch buttons for speed and incline would not work consistently - if you hit the button to go up 0.1 mph, it might take the button press, it might not, or it might start cranking the speed up like the button was stuck. You just never knew what was going to happen if you tried to change the speed or incline. 2. "Cushioning" deck was too cushiony - it would absorb too much of your impact while running and would suck the energy out of your run (think a bit like running in sand or snow). Having something like that occasionally as part of training plan could be a positive, but having it for every run was exhausting both physically and mentally. If you changed the settings to not use the cushioning, it sounded like you were running on a drum - literally the loudest treadmill I had ever run on. Definitely couldn't use it that way early in the morning or when the kids were sleeping. 3. Build issues: A. had a bolt holding the deck to the frame snap mid run once B. Replacing the belt required an almost complete tear down of the deck portion of the machine - others I have done are built to make that an easier process. C. Control software - essentially is a very weak Android tablet with an app that controls the treadmill. That application got corrupted via an update once and the machine could not be used at all until I found a copy of the application to manually load back onto the machine. The support site had a "link" to download the application, but the link was broken, and support was not helpful. Luckily someone had a KZfaq video where they ran into the same issue and they had saved a copy of the application that I was able to get. We tried to adapt to 1 and 2 but in the end, we started dreading getting on the machine as we didn't know what it was going to decide to do that day. Anyway, that is enough of a rant on that. I see that Nordictrack has continued to upgrade this model number and maybe it is better. But I won't be getting another one of their machines. But...thanks for watching!

Dumb question maybe, but where the hell is the speed up button to reset the treadmill? My model is slightly different and doesn't have a speed up button anywhere that I can find outside of the dials. Can't get the lube belt warning to disappear?

It looks like there is a version of the treadmill sold by Canadian Tire here in Canada with a different console than the one sold directly on the Horizon Fitness website. I am wondering if that is the one you have. It would definitely be a mistake by the manufacturer to not have how to reset the lube message somewhere in the manual. Comparing the consoles between the two units - it looks like the Canadian Tire one has media play buttons where the incline and speed buttons are on the other version. It is a long shot but the speed up button on mine would be in the same location as the play/pause button on the Canadian Tire one. Hope that helps!

@@BGRFamily yes that’s the version I have. It’s sold byDicks Sporting Goods in the states. I did find after an hour of searching that it is the play/pause button. Even the Horizon website and manual I got with it say speed up. Little error on there part but loving the tread and your videos. They definitely helped influence me to buy this one over others I was looking at.

Having to do repairs like this is actually not good at all. I've had my current treadmill for over 20 years without a single problem until just now when the belt started to give out. Literally 20+ years ZERO problems.
@BGRFamily
@BGRFamily 21 күн бұрын
That seems pretty doubtful. A good belt is likely max 5-7 years with moderate use by a lighter person. As we indicated in the video, the issue here was about how the treadmill was used and not with the treadmill itself.

You don't really indicate that you have used the treadmill since your pregnancy. And walking versus running has a huge impact on machine life. I am sure many would like to know what treadmill you have

@@BGRFamily Yes of course we have used the treadmill as a whole family. My husband is an ultra marathon runner 100+ mile events. Both my now adult daughters used it once they were old enough. I have use it for 2-4 mile walks. It is a Vision treadmill - not made anymore. I'm just pointing out - new treadmills seem to be made to break.

Thanks for the info - if anything the amount of use indicated makes it less believable that you have no issues in 20+ years of using the treadmill. ANY mechanical piece of equipment will have some kind of problem over 20 years of use. While I agree most things are being designed to fail now, especially large home electronics, I do not feel like that was what your original point was. It is important to note that Vision Fitness is owned by the same umbrella company as Horizon Fitness - they are both owned by Johnson Fitness - and they fill different niche's. Vision treadmills are aimed more commercial and Horizon is more home use and they are priced very differently. For example, as of writing this, the latest version of our 7.0 Horizon treadmill is going for under $1000 as part of a sale and the cheapest Vision treadmill is listed at over $5000 on the Johnson Fitness site. The Vision does have more robust parts like a thicker deck and more powerful motor however for home use has a 7 year parts warranty where the Horizon has a 3 year parts warranty. The average home user will have to make the decision if a bit over double the warranty will justify 5x the cost. Obviously other factors will play in there too for a decision but it does highlight that no one should be expecting 20 years of life out of a treadmill with "ZERO problems". Thanks for watching
