23:46 in her defence, she is still young, late teens or early twenties by this point, and I know people in their thirties that aren't even half as mature as she is. She's also spent most of her life largely separate from people, especially since the proving grounds massacre, and working with people on an equal footing is a skill like any other. Sneaking out is an immature way of dealing with this, but as they've mentioned several times already, it's one she's done before. In addition she's probably never had a long term relationship with anyone other than the Father/Daughter one with Rost, and while she's probably not on the spectrum, it still would take a lot for her to deal with the new dynamic between her and Varl. Plus with all the trauma she gone through, and bearing the weight of having to save the world on her shoulder, it's amazing that she's capable of any rational decision making by this point. Pretty sure most people by this point would not be sneaking out only because they'd already had a complete mental breakdown. Still a shitty thing to do, but one that is at least understandable.

Story is indeed king. And the Horizon series has the storytelling depth to make it a very rich environment, with its own lore. There are at least 2 or 3 games in this universe and that is just to wrap up the main points of the story. Compare that to the Ubisoft copypasta.

The detail-free version of his backstory is that he was a Banuk, likely a Shaman, who realised the blue light that connected the machines was more than mysticism; that there was logic and reason behind the machines' activity. He must have discovered some device with audio files or something that taught him to read, or at least inspired him to study the data until he could comprehend it. From there he became obsessed with studying Earth and its history and potential. One assumes he was always misanthropic and obsessive before that; and he got more extreme after realising what was hidden from everyone else.

I'd forgotten how the various human civilizations at this point have effectively zero animal labor or transportation. That's going to really hamper humanity's efforts to rebuild beyond subsistence farming. I don't know if the devs thought about that aspect, but it makes Aloy's mission all the more important. In that context, for an effectively bronze-age agrarian civilization living harvest to harvest, facing a crop blight they don't understand how to solve? The thousands who will likely starve over the next winter, while a horrific tragedy in themselves, are a drop in the bucket compared to the impending existential threat to mankind as a species if Aloy doesn't find a solution. No pressure, Jingles...

I would guess, that if Apollo, the teaching program, had worled correctly, bigger animals could have been introduced into the eco system through trained genetic engineers etc. (Like, maybe there is a genetic bank to draw prototypes from or something). I can't imagine the Gaia program and all subfunctions to not include bigger animals (it was meant to restore earth, right?). So, I guess, more than just the teaching has been sabotaged or hasn't been activated due to certain checkpoints not being reached because of the sabotage. The people that came up with Gaia and subfunctions never wanted an agrarian culture as the one, that has developed. They wanted to teach the new humans their knowledge, their history, their past. Including art, technology, industry, music, ... everything you can think of. I'd kinda hope that by the end of forbidden West, Aloy finds a non-sabotaged copy of all of Gaias functions and thus humanity can relearn it's abilities - if humans want to. I really don't see that happening yet either. But you never know... Game 3 is a war between tribes of who should be trained by "the godess" in lost knowledge to become super humans, capable of curing blights, illnesses etc. (if people aren't later afraid of doctors and operations, for example). There's so much, that can still go wrong, even if Aloy finds a working, non sabotaged copy of Gaia...

Note: Not played this game or read about the story. So if any of this is covered in this game, my apologies. I know this is way too early, but if there is a third game in the series, will they recast the character of Sylens? Or will they use the existing voice recordings of Lance Reddick to AI the voice? Whilst I'm not a fan of substantial AI performances in general, given Lance has voiced the character in two games, it might be fitting for his voice to be used in a third game. Perhaps as an AI version of Sylens. Or an AI using Sylens as an avatar.

I'd argue that Gaia actually is the goddess, expressed in a different cultural understanding but there's no denying that an AI capable of reterafroming a planet and creating the entire human civilisation pretty much fulfils the definition of god like powers. As Asimov (?) said sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. I was wondering in the last video whether the Far Zenith Project's ship exploding was just due to its construction being rushed and poorly tested. As you say the adversary in this is an AI - Hades, which is just data, even with today's technology NASA recently reprogrammed Voyager 2 which is the furthest object of mankind and far outside the solar system, it doesn't seem impossible that whilst HADES was atempting to wipe out all life it managed to upload itself, or enough of itself onto the spacecraft. It now occurs to me that Tate's logic bomb might have had a simillar effect. Absoltuely love this game/world, please feel free to do longer videos and side quests etc etc.

That's why I love jrpgs: Final Fantasy, Xenoblade and many more. You are still the key, the hero but you are never alone. You have your party, your friends and sometimes entire nations or even the entire planet behind your back and everybody is essential for your success. This solo stuff made sense in Zero Dawn because Alloy was an outcast, a weirdo and nobody would believe her. But now she's a hero, people worship her. It makes zero sense for her not to ask for support. What's worse, Varl proves her wrong in the tutorial because his suggestion to go back to the city to gather information causes her to finally make some progress but she refuses to learn and repeats her mistake again (going into unfamiliar completely solo...). If this will go somewhere (she'll fail again and eventually learn), then fine. But if they'll just ditch it and don't show any character development, then it's shitty writing.

I don't quite get your fondness for Odyssey. It was basically fanfic of greek mythology and history - it had its good moments but I remember facepalming a lot, too. Then there was an artificial grind added into the game so they can sell you XP and gold boosters (in the single player solo game) which was absolutely disgusting if you wanted to play the game at something higher than game journalist difficulty (so your gear, build and how you approach combat actually mattered). The best part about that game was definitely the recreation of ancient cities and architecture. Not entirely accurate but a very good attempt.

Why do I get the Feeling Sylans Might be.... A clone of someone from before? Memories included. Like, that guy knows WAY TO MUCH about Gaia, the Focus, all the Old Tech. Obviously Immortally it NOT a thing in this world, as far as we know. So WHO IS SYLANS?! Also.... If I read that MAP correctly, are we in southern California? That was the West Coast of the United States, specifically the Southern extension of California that goes all the way down to about where Mexico is. And we have to go WEST? That....doesn't make any sense but WHATEVER. The world has changed after all. Looks like we are going to the Mid west or even East Coast.

Sylens isn’t a Clone just a very intelligent, ruthless and driven man searching for knowledge. And immortality is definitely a thing in this world. The first game was set in the Mid West around Colorado and Yosemite National Park. In this game you go West to California near San Francisco and Los Angels

@@maxpower3990 I see, so that DOT was WHERE he sent the data not where its FROM. The Guy just seems to "know too much", certainly way more then anyone else we have met in this world. And yet, as noted he is "neutral", deceptive to be sure, but he is just seeking knowledge and understanding of the world around him. Like, I hope he doesn't turn into an antagonist ever in this series. But man he sure feels like an "asshole" who just WON'T tell you what you want to know less you do something for him first. its just like: My guy, the world is broken and dying, just tell me where the McGuffin is, then we go do History class when the world isn't LITTERALY coming to an end.

too bad she ditched Varl. I kind of like the guy. Think it would have made some more interesting and witty dialogues with him, talking about the old tech and things that happend. Also might have been a chance for some coop elements where they have to work together. It looks right now they spend a lot of design work for a character that is only in play for 1 hour

I suspect he might pop up later in the story, just when it looks everything is lost.

Horizon zero dawn will remain my high water mark for an excellent story, and a decent game behind it. Forbidden west was both weaker in story and the game was also worse, IMHO. In forbidden west, the combat is so opaque, you don't know whats better or worse. I basically used the starter bow the entire game, because it wasn't clear if the "upgrades" were upgrades or not. They took a simple system from the first game, and messed it up. And don't get me started on the "story." They screwed the pooch on this one. After zero dawn, the world was wide open. It could have been a series of games tracking down each subordinate function (in a FULL game), and then returning it to the fold of Gaia. Instead we got this BS space drama. Hated that so much. I don't see a lot of room for more sequels after this.

"We can do a deepfake." Oh, how not contemporary. I get so sick and tired of the far future being perfectly aligned with Modern Audiences. "Not so far fetched, really." Exactly. Unimaginative and pandering to the dullest audience.

I don't mean to be a pedant, but this *is* the internet, so... is 600 years the best part of 1000 years? I mean, I guess it is, but it's quite a bit of a rounding error there.

You know, if you’re going to reconstruct society from first principles with no knowledge of what’s going on and no real way to get that knowledge except the old fashioned way, coming to see the super advanced AI that literally resurrected your world and everything within it isn’t a bad foundation for a religion all things considered.

I've been watching other play-throughs of Pacific Drive and honestly the number of people who ignore what Oppy is telling them and the goals that the game puts up, scan nothing, pay no attention to the dashboard and just bumble around complaining that they don't know what to do is just criminal. One guy did 4 runs with a clear as day engine fault complaining all the while about the lack of power. Good work on your play through. The ending does suck though.

Yeah the story is not as good as the first game. There is quite a lot more logic leaps and so on then the first game. There are allso a lot of desisions that the game makes for you instead of having the option of chosing

I like it, but the forced wokism yo to the point that it defeats common logic, does bother a bit. Just like in the real world... The storytelling is great. The enemies seem a little too scripted, reminiscent of arcade games.

This game suffered from the DEI consultants who took a perfectly fine female protagonist and made her a bitch, and wrote most of the males as redundant/stupid/evil/greedy etc etc etc. Sylen's in the first game wasn't a smug asshole like he is in this one, and some of the new characters (no spoilers of course) are so stereotypical that they'll make you groan. Didn't ruin the game for me, but it did hurt the enjoyment..
