I played this right at the start of Covid lockdown. The post apocalyptic story definitely hit different at that time. It's strange you found the story so appealing, I thought every character but Aloy to be really one dimensional. The combat was what kept me hooked. When you set up that perfect ambush against a pack of robo-dinos... chef's kiss.

The combat is what keeps it from slogging down FOR SURE. I don't know, I just got lost in the lore of the world. The idea of what happened, that acceptance of what ABSOLUTLY must be done for any chance of future survival, BUT STILL seeing how human greed and selfishness can mess that up. Set against Aloy discovering that world at the same time, and the conflicts within it, while discovering everything about the past. It just worked for me. I don't usually read alot of the collectable lore in giant open world games like this, but I went deep here lol. Combat Was very good though. I had alot of fun being creative, just wish I could BLOCK SHIT! lol thanks for watching Slurms!

Hands down the best videogame I played since the Mass Effect Trilogy. Love the story. I usually hate open world games because of the chore list nature most of them have (I'm too busy to do games that don't resect my time, especially if they require a large time investment). This is one of the exceptions I love exactly because of the story, almost everything you do is a story element and feels relevant. As a father of a daughter the start with Rost and Aloy really pulled me in.

You don't have to tame a new mount every time you ride. The game will give you a mount if you whistle for it, but if you want a specific machine, and your mount dies, you might not get the same one when you whistle.

Yah it seemed inconsistent. It was much more consistent in the second game. I found if traveled to far, if I triggered story cut scenes, obviously if it died. I found it being more of an annoyance then anything especially after playing the second game and seeing how it was probably suppose to work? Thank u for watching!

i felt it when you said the game is like the sort of a checklist/chore like gameplay without much room for anything else.. i somehow feel the same way while playing this game hahahaha I just bought Horizon Zero Dawn, and ppl say that the story is good etc but i'm only have been playing it for 5 hours so the story maybe indeed good later on.. but there is one thing that to me just feel off, and that is the lack of npc interaction inside its world. During the exploring in Horizon Zero Dawn you kind of not gonna be able to interact with npcs OUTSIDE THE SETTLEMENT cuz they are simply not exist there, so you rarely see an npc along your way execpt inside A CERTAIN SETTLEMENT like in the mother's heart or in Meridian city.. while in The Witcher you will see npc all over the place, so not only npc exist INSIDE a certain SETTLEMENT but also OUTSIDE a SETTLEMENT, and during your adventure you can interact with many folks along the way and i feel that's what make the game alive cuz when you are exploring out there, you are in a game where there is many folks OUTSIDE THE CROWDED PLACE/SETTLEMENT to talk to unlike Horizon Zero Dawn where during your exploring journey, you are in a game where the middle map is full of hostile machines that need to be avoided all the times therefore logically there would be not many npc or folks OUTSIDE THE CROWDED PLACE/SETTLEMENT (Bcuz in Horizon Zero Dawn anywhere outside the village is a dangerous area full of hostile machines so there would not be many folks outside in the wild), and the only time you get to interact with folks is when you are inside some CROWDED PLACE/inside some SETTLEMENT like in Meridian or Mother's Heart for example. So exploring in The Witcher is like you can explore the game peacefully and just have a nice and slow walk while riding with your horse to appreaciate the game's beauty without having a constant fear that an enemy gonna attacked you, plus along the way you can interact with many folks in the wilds (not just inside some SETTLEMENT) which for me that's what make the game feel more alive.. Unlike exploring in Horizon Zero Dawn where you can't just have a nice and slow walk around the map, you are either forced to run and avoid machines or ride an overided striders to travel. And if you wanna interact with the npc, well too bad they only exist inside some SETTLEMENT ONLY so you won't meet many folks in the wild.. So for me Horizon Zero Dawn is the type of game where you only travel to places you are assigned to AKA to places where the quest is set, cuz what the point of exploring a new land outside where the quest is located if there is not a single npc or even folks there to have a conversation with. So games with lack of npc to talk to will make the game itself feel less alive and that's just boring for me ngl.

Open world games are definitely interesting these days. Not everyone likes the same things, but to have a fast, giant world, it also needs focus, or something to ground it, and lock the player in, otherwise, like you said, it can get boring. Horizon does alot of things right, but misses on others, I recently played Ghost of Tsushima, and working on that video, I feel they handled the open world MUCH better, thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts!

Great video as always! It is always nice when an open world game is actually enjoyable. So many of them have become grindy with fetch quests galore and time wasted traveling between nothing interesting(notably AC Odyssey imo, hahaha).

Thanks for watching! I think it would all be personal preference for controls. If you have played other open world games like this on Keyboard you will probably be fine. I prefer controller myself, and everything felt natural and pretty easy to execute.

ive played the game for over 200+ hours and if you do end up playing more id highly try and recommend taking your time to read through and listen to all the different data points. They arent necessarily required but they give such a good way of understanding the world around you that i havent really seen other games do. And with most of your gripes on the game idk if youve played forbidden west or not but that game definitely improves a lot on the areas you mentioned zero dawn fell short on.

Actually beat Forbidden West last week! And yes almost everything was addressed (blocking/parry still missing). I should have mentioned that I really DID enjoy all the logs, audio clips and lore, I count all that in with the Story and the World, which was excellent, and for ME really kept me invested. Fighting was super fun as well, just felt like it could have been put so over the top with a couple additions, Forbidden West does ALOT of new great things in that regard too. Working on that video this week! I can see how you could easily put 200+ into this game, I will be returning to both of them to continue going through. I spent DOUBLE the time with forbidden west, really great open world games. Thank you for watching and sharing!

@@JimmyPotatoTVnow hold on why is it okay for some games to require you to block and Parry instead of dodging but it's not okay to not have block and Perry and Dodge instead. I hard disagree

@@frequencyoftruth2303 It's not a matter of, if it's ok for a game to have or not have something. Who cares what other games have. This game, and this experience, in this world, with these enemies and tools, I personally think the game could have benefited from the options, specifically when fighting human opponents. It's a small gripe from me about a game that is otherwise fantastic. Love both Horizon Games, hope we get more!

Well I both both HZD and HFW as Complete editions and installed them true Steam. HDZ is just not working no matter what. And everything else works. I have epic gaming PC and every game works but HZD crashes on loading first black screen you see. Watched 10000 useless videos nothing helps. HFW works but I do not want to play it without going true the HZD first :(

Your combat issues with the game may be addressed in the upcoming PS5 remake that's coming out later this year. Let's hope! The game is already as close to perfect as you can get. (The sequel, Forbidden West has achieved that perfection.) So hopefully they can do the same with the first one.

ur trippin. 30hrs? u barely dipped your toes, not to mention this is a relatively shallow rpg in terms of amouny of crafting materials and grinding, so if u saw that as a negetive it just tells me you aint really about it.

I loved this game, and had a really good time with it. After 30 hrs I was ready to move on to the next instalment. 431 game backlog is already a years long project. I mention in the video there is probably 100+ hrs worth of things to do, and a new game plus. ALL of the material and menu issues I had were improved and expanded upon with Forbidden West, infact EVERYTHING I had an issue with, outside of being able to block human opponents was made better in the sequel. Which is awesome. I was def about it. appreciate you watching the video, thanks!

@@FullBeardSk8 if mindless grinding and crafting is more important to you, play Valhalla. He was talking about how much story is important along with the gameplay. A game can have best graphics ever, over 500 hours of content, but completely shallow, like Ubisoft games. This was great review.

The story is quite good and intriguing, the world is magnificent, the scenery is just breath taking at times but the gameplay is average, combats are meh, repetitive and the in-game activities are copypasted from Far Cry, also the main paradigm of the game doesn't really make any sense, you're basically a teenage girl armed with a stick and a wooden bow killing huge dinosaur like sophisticated machines armored and equipped with scanners, laser guns, missile launchers and flame throwers, it's literally like attacking alone a battalion of modern tanks in your underwear with a broom and a slingshot...
