I constructed a full sized Wicked One enclosure years ago and dropped it into a '93 Honda Civic Si firing towards the rear. Enclosure ended up being 36" x 36" x 12.5" and slid right between the strut towers. JL Audio 10W6 drivers were used with something like 600 clean watts. The setup managed to pound out 159.6db @ about 60hz I believe. It was unbelievable at the time. I agree, for metal and alternative etc it was absolutely incredible. Jazz was insane as well......the "Iguana" album from Ray Obiedo comes to mind as being quite impressive.

I love this series. Also, one of my favorite boxes I've built sound and range wise was a 2 12" 4th order in a 2:1 ratio. After like 6 rebuilds and adjustments, it would play mid 20hz range up to 50hz range easily within a couple Db across the board. Could play anything and it would sound amazing and loud. Takes some effort like anything, but a well dialed 4th will always be a favorite

Best speakers i have ever heard, were home made folded horns my dad made in the 70's with 15" drivers. 4'x'4'x4'. They hit so hard and got extremely low. Those powered with my Sansui 9090db, sounded better than the Klipsch La Scalas. They were not sealed on the front, like this one is though.

The half of a wicked one has been built. I did it about almost 18 years ago or something. The mouth of the box that I see on this video is what I would say wrong when I did mine. I literally cut it in half then Continued to make it a full rectangle not the odd shape that you have or that is on this video. It was the loudest thing I’ve ever created in my life so far I have now created the same thing half box for a 15 instead of a 12 or 10.

This box reminds me of some pro audio/live sound designs with a 6th order bandpass design, which include Martin audio and d&b audiotechnik dual 18” subs. I don’t know the Martin model number, but the d&b boxes that use this design include the b2 and b22. Those boxes have the fronts of the drivers directly facing each other in the back of the horn area. And the backs of the drivers are inside enclosures with slotted ports out the front. Those have always certainly given me that punchy kick for live bands as an audience member, though I’m not sure if they can really technically be called horns?

The coffin! You should also try that one with the driver facing the other direction and see the difference. Or, at least with it mounted the other side of that mounting face because the air movement holes in the chassis are being restricted by the thickness of the plastic mounting face panels thickness.
@barevids
@barevids Жыл бұрын
I did actually test that before shooting, about the box thickness restricting it, and found it had absolutely no effect mounting the driver on the other face - the area of space for the rear cone pressure to escape is actually much bigger than it looks, big enough for it to be completely disregarded by the driver! This was confirmed by RTA and also impedance sweep

I was a bit confused by the word "horn", for me it is something you use for higher frequencies. And for that reason horns are kind of "bad" since they are very directional compared to a dome that can spread the sound better. But as we know lower frequencies are not very directional, but can be a subject to "standing waves" and from where in the room you are while listening. But pure pressure and air movement can always be compaired. Interessting non the less. 🙂

I just looked these up recently!! Was curious how they’d sound in a single 15 in a suv. I’m very curious if you were to install a small long (low tuned) port into the sealed section making it a sixth order if it would increase the low freq output? Anyway you could implement a small port into it?

I’d also like to see some tline designs with a 1/3 offset driver location. @@barevids I enjoy learning how different enclosures effect how a speaker plays and this season your doing is freaking awesome! You can read all day but your taking someone’s word for how “it” sounds. Trial and error seems to be the best teacher. I’ve cut and modified my simple 4cube ported box 12 times until I got the best sound I preferred. Started with a 2inch tall 20 wide port, wasn’t enough output so I went to 5 inch tall 18 wide =a lot more output but at a higher frequency so the. I extended the port 16 inches externally. Now it has lots of output and plays pretty low but falls off on the high frequency so now I’m thinking 6th order to gain the higher frequency output, but then I got to reading on tlines and I have no personal experience listening to them but I believe I will enjoy their sound more bc they’re suppost to be more accurate and go really low. But then I’m like what about the higher frequency? Should I expand the line for a horn loading effect for higher frequency? So many options but so expensive experiment. So this season your doing is right down my alley! I’ll check out the cad designs and see if I have time to figure it out.

@@JoshM7 that's how my zcon 18 seems. Pretty flat from 18-50 Hz. Pretty much falls flat on it's face above that though. The ns4 12 I am running right now plays about 27-50 Hz. But a lot boomier than what the 18 is. 18 does basically high 130's from 18 to 45 Hz. I should have designed my own box instead of following sundown's recommendations. @barevids did you find that a helmholtz resonance scales up like that with box dimensions? Did you find that a box with 8 x the volume, twice the port length and 4 x the port area gets tuned twice as low?

@@TimpBizkit helmholtz resonator uses the fluid dynamics of air which scales. This series is scaled by a factor of x6. That means the frequencies are multiplied by 6, port area divided by 36 since its 2 dimensional, and box volume divided by 216 since its 3 dimensional to create a small scaled version of a full size enclosure.

What is this watt meter you speak of. What is the model specifically? Thank you in advance.

Db/ inch cubed size is what really matters for low frequencies. Please give that's kind of analysis. You already have the cabin gain box. And space of the greatest constraint in a car for subs.

Hey! I've revised my paraflex 12" sub design. By simulations, 1/4 wave maths, should play 30-90Hz real world. It's more regular. I could send you the FreeCAD files?

Cut in half? Not quite. The horn's mouth should have been cut in half as well. This would have dropped the Fb a bit.The WO is basically two 4th order BPs with expanding vents joined together.
