I am the same. I have too many locos in DC, and it would cost me a fortune to convert. That and the time it would take. So I will be DC for many years to come. Keep up the good videos. I get a great enjoyment from them and some good ideas. Thank you.

Well done Bill, a proper fix up and basic service along with the removal of those digital pixies certainly brought her back to life. She's running a treat now. It's Great to see another Bullied Pacific resurrected and happy to be brought back into active service.

The advantage with DCC is that the loco's run so much better at slow speed. Starting off is more prototypical! That and you don't have to wire in isolations, if you what more than one loco on the track at one time and Oh, Yes, Sound! No Brainer really!

Although there is no doubt DCC has it's advantages those who run DC and want it to stay that way are not up for debate.

You were right with regard to the suppression capacitor, for DCC running they should be removed.

Bill, all DCC decoders are DC enabled as part of the standard . It is not necessary to remove the RF suppression caps but it is advisable to do it. All DCC decoders are not created equal, a 20pound Hornby decoder is definitely not the equal of a 100pound Zimo decoder. DCC has been around in different forms since the late sixties, modern DCC started in 1992 with Lenz. At a recent exhibition all but 4 of the 30 odd layouts on display were DCC equipped.

Bit of a messy dcc conversion. Must have been a DIY job. I do wonder sometimes how some loco's get into such a state. Wires everywhere, bits hanging off and filthy mechanisms. I think people must not understand that these little machines require maintenance. Nice job anyway Bill...

How would you spell footery, that's the only word I can think of to describe this fiddly work. I have a couple of model trains that don't work, so it's quite a common thing to have around the house, keep up the good work.

I love the Bullied Pacific's! DCC is great for a big layout with lots of locos running at the same time but a smaller layout is fine with DC only. This loco has that awful live tender bar which can cause shorts even on DC. Really bad design. Great repair job!

Your videos stand for both DC and DCC because mechanically models are the same. With DCC chip problems, you’re really into electronic fault finding and aside from swap the chip for one you know works, or reset and try again, you need a test bed, especially with sound.

Good afternoon I just wanted to mention when I moved into my new house I found in the loft a bachmann highlander sound fitted trainset with the class 37 locomotive and two coaches it also has digital controller and a circuit of track now personally I'm not a layout kind of man and will never actually use this trainset so if you can make use of it it's yours for free I'm sure you can make better use than I could just a quick update after checking the loft I found a little bag of accessories including a dcc blanking plate and what I think might be snow ploughs honestly if you want this trainset set I would be delighted for someone from Scotland to enjoy it I have asked everyone I know unfortunately none are interested in trains if you are interested please let me know and I can get this sent to you I really enjoy your videos

Hi John. I believe Gaugemaster controllers have feedback which is not good for some older locos. I use a Hammant & Morgan Duette; built to last a life time. 👍 Paul.

@@platformten5958 Not all Gaugemaster Controllers have feedback; I run coreless motors along with Triang X03/4, split chassis types on my Gaugemaster Controllers, without any problems.

Hi Paul, l use Gaugemaster Model D & Model 100M. They may be "old school" but are ultra reliable. I even run my Proscale P2, with a Portescap Motor, with them in control.

@@mattnimmo Thanks for that info Matthew; very much appreciated. I might even purchase one myself as an extra controller for either a third main line or maybe just for independent running of my sidings. Cheers, Paul. 👍👍👍
