In this video we take apart a Hornby R2417 Class 08 Shunter 3256 in BR green livery (model train). I cover shell removal, gear lubrication, DCC installation and basic cleaning. Once the service is complete, we'll see how it runs on the layout.

Thank you for your comment about shipping to the USA. Sadly I don’t buy from the USA as the shipping costs are also prohibitively expensive. A lot of valuable trade is lost and so too will be revenue for both countries.

I've just picked up exactly the same model from a popular auction site begging with the letter 'e'! Your video has been really helpful and I shall take up your advice when I come to clean it up and add a DCC chip. Mine looks like it's not seen much action too but ran quite nicely straight from the box on DC. Thanks for posting the video.

The general consensus is that Bachmann is the way to go for Diesel and Hornby is best for steam. However there are some excellent models released and forthcoming from smaller manufacturers like Oxford Rail, Dapol, Cavalex and Accurascale.

I've started to notice that. Funnily enough, the only steamer I ever had an issue with was a Bachmann and the one diesel I hard a real hard time with was Hornby. I've never owned an Oxford, Cavalex or Accurascale as they're a bit harder to find in the states, but, I've noticed Dapol finding it's way over here. It's on my list of next purchases.
