Hi Chris. I too thought, like Garry, that loco sounds should be turned off during experiments/demonstrations (I just didn't make a comment at the time). While on the subject of sound, the volume on this video was rather low, despite you wearing your lapel mic. For shunting work, it does seem that the Dapol couplings are the better product, even though they are more expensive. For just running trains (freight or passenger coaches) I believe a mixture of products is best; magnetic ones between wagons/coaches and Dapol maybe at the beginning and end of rakes. I like the coffee/tea mug, it looks great, although I tend to use a reusable, insulated cup for my morning coffee. I would happily use your affiliate link for Hornby TT:120 products as I would still get my club discount.

Hi Paul, yes I did rather make a mess of the sound. I was mindful of Garry’s comments regarding the background noise so even though in this video I didn’t have loco sound the background noise of our neighbours was quite distracting (it being so hot I’d got the workshop doors open) so I’d cut the background sound by 50% not realising that when I recorded the chat on top this would need to be adjusted back up to full volume! Learning curve🤦♂️I’ll get it right one day! 🙂 Thanks for the feedback regarding the purchasing links, I wasn’t sure how that would go down.

Hi Peachy. Good stuff. I think what Gary meant with reference to axles being attracted by the magnet is that he has steel axles on his wagons?! I tend to use the tiny Neodymium magnets outside of the rail under the sleepers. This, for me, eliminates the problem with metal axles, and are more unobtrusive than Dapol's big magnet you showed i.e easily covered with ballast

Neodymium magnets sound like a good idea. I also like the idea of trying an electro magnet at some point, certainly something I want to look into.

Ordered 1 pair each of Dapol medium & small couplers. Tested them on a short 450mm radius curve (tightest I am planning to use on new layout and straight. After much faffing and fitting a spring to 1 of the Medium ones I finally got them to couple. Alas 1 spring disappeared onto the floor never to be seen again, despite trawling with magnet. Mediums coupled on 450mm curve OK (didn't try uncoupling). The short would run OK round 450mm radius curve (buffer touching when pushing & very close when pulling), but they did not couple. Next step is trying with some Neodymium Magnets. Though still attracted by the simplicity of the Hunt magnetic couplings, despite the "hand of god".

Yes it is a lot of faffing. Tbh I rather like the 00 tension lock version that can be uncoupled with an electromagnet but I guess they’re just too large for TT. I think I’ll end up with dapols on my shunters for fun & magnets on my passenger stock

@@PeachyTT120 I tried a pair of Dapol short couplings on my Hornby Pullman coaches. Even on a straight they did not couple. They could not get close enough due to buffers & corridor interconnector.

In your last video you showed what looked like a pack of Hornby TT120 couplers. I've searched their website but cannot find them. Do you have a product code? I have recently been making a number of kit wagons and now need to fit them with a common coupler.
