I know this wasn't meant for that, but I would legit watch a show about our main character. Her doing her craft to various customers, the consequences, the scenarios with this exact atmosphere...nothing too flashy, or crazy, or even anything that escalates past the subtle nature of the magic as its shown, because it's really good.

Absolutely love the way she's practicing her craft. There's no glamour of fancy objects, it's ordinary items being used, like the tea bag and a jar. The atmosphere and the music really set the mood. Love it! wish there could be more stories about these characters.

This is what I understood from it: The young lady is naturally gifted and practices witchcraft from which she earns money. The guy brings her clients. The first client we meet wants to know about a future business deal. She touches him and has a vision of the deal going badly and of her client getting stabbed. She shares this vision with him exactly as she sees it and that is what impresses him so much (he was probably skeptical of her abilities, said he expected a “little old lady”). The psychic refuses the next client saying she is tired. In the morning, her helper asks her what the birds are saying alluding to more of her gifts. She says they simply want to go somewhere warmer. He also mentions putting the person she refused to see on some list (a blacklist possibly of ppl she refuses to work with) but the psychic insists it’s fine and she was just tired. We then meet another client, a young girl “Saf” who brings a lock of hair possibly from an unfaithful boyfriend as the helper says “it’s about loyalty” when Saf says she doesn’t want “him” hurt. The psychic hexes the disloyal person by putting his hair in a jar with other ingredients, sealing it and having the jar buried so it’ll take effect. The psychic has another guy helping her who says he has buried so many of these hex jars. The next client is an older man who wants to speak to his deceased wife. She seemingly acts as a medium to allow this conversation to happen. This causes the lights to go out while a woman appears in the room with the psychic. A senior person in this witchcraft business shows up to tell the psychic that they don’t consort with the dead because it’s not worth it. We realize that the woman who appeared behind the psychic (interrupting her attempt to reach the dead) was actually the psychic’s own sister “Bea” who is psychic is as well and was thus able to find her witchy sister. Bea shows up in the flesh, knocking on the door. The second helper and the psychic grab weapons before they answer the door (clearly no one visits them other than clients). Bea tells the psychic their Mom is concerned about her while the psychic spreads salt on the floor as though she is going to cast a spell on her own sister. The psychic says she could teach Bea (witchcraft) and that Bea would be good at it but it is clear that Bea does not agree with the witchcraft and business side of all of this although she too is gifted. It seems that her sister was also the client she refused to see in the beginning. The psychic reveals she was just joking with the salt and hugs her sister. It seems like she may reconcile with her estranged family but we then see the second helper going outside to bury something (probably another hex jar) while the birds fly overhead, signifying that things haven’t really changed yet. She is still practicing witchcraft. She is the gutterwitch.

I think the witchcraft is window dressing that allows for a profit, her gift is her psychic ability....the reason I came to this conclusion is that few moments with her sister, the salt circle & the way she laughed....then her sister asks her if it was playacting & she answered probably (paraphrasing here, don't quite recall word for word) I think the hex jars are smoke & mirrors too.....the medium/speaking to the dead part was very real and that's what triggered the other talented psychic to reprimand her.....in other words, stick with the frothy theatrical side, don't delve into the uncontrollable darkness. Jmo, loved reading yours ;)

Her sister is already dead. She came through when we was conjuring the man's wife. It's not worth it, per the head witch, because so many others come through too. The mom spoken about has already passed over too. It's interesting about the geese. I used to use the geese flying overhead like that on an overcast day as a lead in for hypnosis sessions with clients. As they came in, you would send up all that was weighing you down. Then as they fly directly overhead, you thank them for their help. As they fly away, they take all the negative things with them; your bad habits, tension, worries, regrets, etc. My clients found it very profound. So did I.

It is, though some of the Things she does are definitely black magick and therefore not "allowed" by our ethics. But to help the guy see his dead wife she would either have to be a really powerful witch (probably a bloodwitch with direct roots either in the woodbane or the burnhides clan) or a medium. I for myself can speak with dead people when I hold a seance and a Family Member or friend or whatever is present, I can even see the people I knew well before they died, but I could probably study til I've surpassed my greatgrandmas Age at death (she's 104 now, but she's fitter than many people in their 20s I know. She's gonna her Really old.) and still I'd never be able to make others see Dead people.

as a witch , i am pleased with how you represented the craft, you either know or researched it well. salt is for protection or cleansing . the circle was not a joke .or should not have been ,perhaps a way to remove the emotions ,as being a child as she said , or to cleanse the relationship.the sister hugged her first ,she was slow to return the embrace ,showing the problems were hers , and she needs to do shadow work on her self , the sour jars and her budget craft was nice to see , as well as no harry potter hocus pocus , magick. i my self liked she used animal parts , you did not make her into a fuzzy bunny glenda the good witch , this would make a fantastic series , for more modern non wicca witches , the actors were great , believable and drew me in , wondering on the witch that policed her , head witch . is she in a coven ?? or solitary with perhaps a teacher keeping an eye on her , loved it do more

Synopsis - It was a coven, Bea was also psychically adept and identified her sister's location, possibly while Libby breached the barrier to the dead realm, Bea wanted to liberate her sister, which was prognosticated by Libby who foresaw Bea shooting and killing Cal in the process, so Libby choose loyalty to the coven and proactively instead jarred Bea.

I really loved this film. It's so cool to see a witch featured with authenticity in a movie. She's probably an urban witch. Using basic stuff and practicing inside the city. Pretty cool. No fancy crystals or elaborated altar. It's what it's like besides Pinterest witchy aesthetic posts. It's simple, powerful, and the witch can use basic items to cast spells. One only need their spirit and focus to practice witchcraft. Items and tools are useful, and they're here to channel energy but you don't NEED super fancy stuff

I am glad I watched this twice as for me it made more sense. A young woman who practices witchcraft in the modern world makes a living selling her services. Instead of living in the woods, she lives with two roommates in low income housing. She has a broken washer outside her apartment. Her two roommates her get clients. I think she also has psychic powers as she can see the future (evidenced by the how she sees her client Jay get stabbed). She can set hexes and she can summoon the dead. She is part of a group as a fellow witch came to chastise her for messing with tbe dead. (A code of ethics for witches?) She has visions such as a roommate dying and seeing her sister before she is there. She also seems to have a connection with her sister who in my opinion has psychic powers she does not want to lose. The sad thing I saw is that even with all her powers the witch seems to be unhappy and miserable as if she is trapped in her gutterwitch lifestyle. Her two roommates and fellow witch also seem to be miserable. Flying geese can represent a changing of the season and hopefully there is a change on the horizon for the gutterwitch. That's my interpretation. The acting was great and the gutter environment had the right amount of squalor. This was enjoyable and a different take on witchcraft. Many Thanks to Harry Baker, the cast, and crew. Excellent work. Peace.

I don't think Safi is the victim here acting as a client seeking revenge. Everyone in the room appears to be on informal terms, and refers to each other on a first name basis. Cal even sends his love to Safi's mom. I think Safi is part of this coven, likely a witch herself, and an incident involving a man who she was close to occurred, and they had to take care of him, hence the statement "This is about loyalty", likely in reference to loyalty to their group. Note that Safi said "I didn't want to hurt him", past tense, which may mean that she didn't intend harm to come to this man when this all started, with their involvement causing him to find out too much, which necessitated him to be dealt with. Keep in mind that at no point is it inferred that it was necessarily a romantic relationship, he could have been a friend or even family member. It might just be trendy coincidence, but the female characters all have hanging gemstone necklaces and black nail polish (couldn't tell about jacketted Mary), perhaps meant to be a visual cue that they all have a connection to witchcraft? The men seem to be there solely as enforcers/workers. As an aside, note the necklace continuity error in the scene from @3:48 onward. I think the "list" Cal refers to is likely a hit/jar list. I am not sure, but they seem to treat the jars as people who have been buried as in a graveyard, so perhaps it is more lethal than just a hex? One concerning thing in light of Libby being a prognosticator is that when she opens the barrier to the dead, she sees her sister and gasps, which I will assume is not a coincidence. This might signify that in the near future her sister will end up in the afterlife, which could explain the additional buried jar in the last scene, as she too now knows too much. Alternatively, her psychic exploration may have allowed her similarly endowed sister to psychically discover her location, which shocked Libby. A thought provoking scene is where Libby reads the entrails of the bird and divines Cal's shooting by a person with a hoodie and gloved hand, possibly the same person in the immediately preceding vision who had an ungloved delicate appearing white skinned hand, all ending with a gasp of realization as she envisions Bea. Perhaps Bea was intent on liberating her sister from this coven? It appears that the predicted future can be, dare I say it, altered, which makes me ponder if Libby also chose loyalty to the coven by jarring Bea? Something that is eluding me, is twice Safi is visualized during Libby's prognostication, first after cleaning up a circle and finding what appears to be a lock of hair, and second in the final divining circle scene where Safi is seen looking sideways.

This is the first horror short I've seen that genuinely could be made into something much bigger. A lot of the time, while the short is great, I think making a feature length would take away the essence of it (the pacing, or the mystery as a result of not having time to explain everything). But with this I really feel like there's so much more story to be told.

Ive always been fascinated by witchcraft, the use of nature and how one can draw power from it. Ive seen many films pertaining to the craft but never experienced it in such a beautifully portrayed version as this. Its not glamorous or supernatural or speaking in strange tongues but authentically real and fantastically human. The actress playing the witch really is brilliant she brings out the emotional rawness of the craft and delivers a proformance that needs very little dialog or explanation. I loved it!! I cant wait to see more of your work.❤️❤️

Why is it how we're stuck with so many crap horror movies that u would think by having a huge budget, would actually be worth watching but alas....nope! We find better substance and overall quality with better acting, and everything else thru these shorter movie, who are also better at story-telling with the limited resources they have? This was another shorty that is definitely a bestie!

The acting was great all around. They chose Libby's actress perfectly. I'm waiting for the Safi explaination as it's one of the biggest cliff-hangers imo. Hex gone wrong or perhaps it really was a game and there was no hex at all. Either way, bad news for the guy in the room with Safi during the hex.

I am so damn glad I found this channel. I have always been a huge fan or horror and creepy shit, and this channel has it all! Excellent film. The acting is freakin' astounding! Bravo to everyone involved in this masterpiece. It leaves you wanting more! I would seriously watch this as a series if there ever was one. It was simple, no frills involved in the witchcraft. Just basic stuff. I loved it
