One: It was sometime during those yawning early morning hours; before yet another lurid dawn had begun to smoulder angrily beneath the bleak and desolate horizon that surrounds Newport on every side (Day-trips and other excursions to Newport may be booked from Horrorbabble Enterprises,) that Randolph Carter rolled out of his bed and slipped into a pair of Shocking Pink Furry-Cthulhu Slippers, (Furry-Cthulhu Slippers are available in all 8 colors and also in Paisley from Horrorbabble Enterprises price £16,) and put on his favorite, “I was At the Mountains of Madness and all I got was this lousy tee shirt,” tee shirt, (available in various sizes from Horrorbabble Enterprises price £26,) and groped for a nearly empty box of Kingsport, “What a friend I have in Lucifer,” matches, (Kingsport matches in all varieties are available from Horrorbabble Enterprises price £6 per carton.) His fingers found the single unspent match that was still left, he struck it deftly and quickly lit the gas.

The Fringes of the Mythos series, including excellent short stories like "The Crib of Hell" and "Hydra", is absolutely wonderful and a welcome addition to HB's already vast archive of fine adaptations. Excellent again, HorrorBabble. (SLIGHT SPOILER:) Btw, "The Crib of Hell" is a worthwhile reworking of a cpl HP Lovecraft tales including "The Dunwich Horror" and will seem familiar, along w/"Hydra", in a welcome way to fans of Mr. Lovecraft and the many fine writers who added salient stories to his compelling mythos.

I REALLY REALLY like the art for this one. That's some top notch stuff. I'm waiting to listen to the story before bedtime. I'm babysitting my cat right now (she's high maintenance. If I didn't work from home, I'd come home every day to everything in my house being shredded or pooped on), but I wanted to voice my humble opinion about the thumbnail art. That's really good art. Also, Pendragon is an AWESOME handle. I bet that guy was a chick magnet with a name like Art Pendragon.

So this is an enjoyable horror story. Very atmospheric with an appropriately horrible ghoul as well. The one thing that does bug me, is that if you're not familiar with Clark Ashton's Smith's Nameless Offspring you might miss the mythos connection. So it could probably use some explanation for how it fits into the mythos somewhere in the intro.
@HorrorBabble
@HorrorBabble Жыл бұрын
That wasn't really the plan with this series. The stories selected might 'pass' as mythos stories, without necessarily 'being' mythos stories. Hence the FRINGES thing.

The following humble/likely redundant suggestion was inspired by recent readings of the excellent "The Terror From the Depths" (F Lieber) & Wolf's "Lord of the Land" which evoked thoughts re: HB productions of these & other works from Lieber the best of the HPL-derivative gang would make fine additions to HB's already expansive offerings. I also just read Cardin's "Teeth" (an astounding tale of the Lovecraftian cosmic horror theme taken to an ultimate existential extreme) and Campbell's "Cold Print", which (SPOILER) presents a monstrous entity even more potent than Cthulhu and which is is more than adequately entertaining. Additionally, there's the astounding short story "Lord of the Land" from the fertile mind of author Gene Wolf. It's a dense, well-textured and intensely engaging tale which, each time I read it, becomes an increasingly entertaining, edifying and stunning cosmic (placed in a largely Egyptian context) horror experience with the emphasis on terrifyingly disturbing and just overall dope AF. So, acknowledging HB's well-demonstrated, clearly comprehensive knowledge of all tales terrifying, proven ability to produce quality narrations, understanding licensing and running a YT channel, I'd like to present a humble suggestion: (Additional) productions inspired by the likes of Fritz Lieber, R. Campbell & some of the better of the many mythos writers including M. Cardin et al. HorrorBabble's ability to produce the highest possible quality narrations and radio-plays would absolutely enhance the experience of these works, and it's my hope that the good people at HB has or will have these authors' works on their to-do list. All of that being said, I realize, of course, that this suggestion is sheer folly as HB is well ahead of the likes of myself in these matters. But hey: Fritz Lieber's "The Terror From the Depths" and Ramsey Campbell's "Cold Print" - if licensing isn't an issue, what is not to love? Please forgive my presumption and ignorant if well-intentioned two cents. (Bows deeply in subservience)

I don't know if you've ever had a request for trigger warnings to be listed in the video description before, but seeing the word crib in there makes me a little adverse to checking this one out. Should it help, all of the characters at the time of the story are well above infancy. Possible spoiler: There is a flashback that references the origin of the 'crib's' occupant (which was born to the second wife of the aged heir's father.) The 'crib' itself is not a piece of furniture, but a containing space.

@@HorrorBabble I'm not gonna lie, maybe I'm out of touch, but I really, really like the work you and a handful of other youtubers do in terms of oral storytelling, which I think is most certainly an important art form and one not so many are great at. So seeing these channels really, really rubs me the wrong way, particularly since none I have seen have been labeled as such. It's just not the same and I doubt it ever really will be. Sometimes the art isn't just the end result, but also the process itself. And AI storytelling definitely is NOT it.

And, mind you ... As someone who myself has studied the occult for approaching 15 years now almost ceaselessly ... I've never seen a hell child, that's for sure... But I've seen some pretty ...... Wrong things that will never leave me. Sometimes it makes me wonder just what Lovecraft himself knew about how right he got some of the more seemingly minor details in his works, let alone what he inspired in future generations. The unknown is certainly living and real.. maybe not as Hollywoodesque or as dramatic but... It's only ever a few degrees of separation away, all it takes is the right wavelength of consciousness to bridge the gap. My advice, if your instincts freeze you and the air turns to ice.. Pray, or run. Or both.
