I have spent 30 years at boarding stables with my horses and I have seen more accidents involving dogs than I can shake a stick at. Whether it be the dog, horse or rider that gets hurt. Its not worth it. Leave fido at home.

The horse gave the dog multiple warning signs before the horse acted on those signs. The dog was being stupid and hopefully learned a valuable lesson. It's not the horses fault. Edit: the big sign was pinned ears, and throwing his/her head.

My shepherd is equally playfully annoying to the horses. That wasn't an attack, that was a "cut the crap, furbag" warning. The horses were actually really patient with his shenanigans.

I wouldn’t let any dogs in the arena, riders only. No distraction. The horse can kill that thing in a nanosecond. You can train the dog to be relaxed in horse company. He’s not trained.

I know he’s just being playful but I really hope he doesn’t do that with horses anymore, I can’t count the number of times I’ve been riding and had someone’s loose dog run up to harass my horse. Horse has almost been nipped at and dogs have almost been kicked. I don’t want either horse or dog to get hurt, riders will do their best to avoid that, but proper training for the dog goes a long way.

There’s nothing that involves “attacking” here. The dog is trying to play with them/being a nuisance so the horses were telling him to knock it off, while the ignorant owners laughed. They’re lucky those horses are patient and forgiving.

My dog did that once... after that i mounted up and chaised the dog around a bit. Now he leaves horses alone...

My GSD was terrible, meaning he loved the horses and chased them. I tried so many things to have him stop. My gelding loved him and they would play, as long as the gelding was in the stall. Both my GSD and horses could not be loose-. I was never able to stop him chasing the horses, so either the horses were in their stalls or my dog was in the kennel and big fenced in yard. This is not advisable to continue.. the dog can really get hurt or worse killed.

This IS NOT a horse attacking a dog. Some horses have little tolerance for dogs. They’re all individuals with likes and dislikes.

The dog needed to be better trained to come when called if they were going to be working with horses - for any purpose. The horses gave several clear warnings that they were done with the situation - and to the owners credit, they recalled the dog quickly. But the dog did not listen, and the horses ESCALATED. If you're going to have dogs working with horses, they need to be trained well enough to come at the first call. A well placed kick can easily kill even a large dog, so you need to be POSITIVE that your dog will return when called, otherwise you're putting them in unnecessary danger. You wouldn't take a horse on the trail if they bolt at the first rustle of leaves, and you shouldn't have a dog working with horses if they don't know when to back off

This was not an attack. The horses signaled repeatedly for the dog to back off, but he didn't. And the woman was clueless and laughing. Horses are very alert to bites on their leg tendons, which would finish them. They clearly didn't trust this dog, cute as he is.

Horse wasn't trying to hurt the dog. There was no chasing or teeth snapping involved; the horse just puffed himself up to warn the pooch away.

Most people would be smart enough not to allow that Shepherd to behave that way with the horses in the first place, and to just laugh as it’s allowed to continue takes it to a new dimension of stupidity. Damn lucky that dog and it’s owners were given a second chance to consider what just about happened. I must say that those horses were being top notch patient.

Nice "trained dog" doesn't even come when you whistled for it the first time. The dog even got more aggressive with it and charged it a bit. Grained people are saying it's a shepherd type dog so it would do that if the cattle does move but it's a horse. It wont more for a dog it's not a sheep. The dog should know not to do that. That's how you lose the boi to a good kick in the head by a spooked horse.

Looks to me like this video was mislabeled the dog is cleaely instigating this behavior NOT the horse. My dogs are NEVER allowed to to do this to my horses and we rode out together all the time with no issues. They love running together

Horse did not attack dog, it warned aggressive dog to stay away. Dog may have been playful but horse doesn't know that.

There are enough proofs on the Internet which show horses that killed dogs, other animals, even other horses or humans in no time. In this case, it would be the dog owner’s fault if the dog gets killed by the horse. The horse was obviously only warning the dog, because a horse can kill with only one try. I feel only sorry for the horses in the video.

And, this is exactly why we have a big sign ( actually a few ) posted stating: NO DOGS during any type of EQUINE activity. We had a trampled by a horse, because the dog was doing the exact same thing that this dog is doing. Fortunately, the dog survived, but it could have been far worse. Horses are nothing to play with no matter how much we humans think we have them “trained”.

This isn’t a “horse attacking dog” it’s a horse defending itself. The horse is trying to relieve pressure caused by the dog constantly getting in its bubble. This is ridiculously irresponsible. If the horse was to injure that dog, it could be blamed for being “dangerous” when it’s really the fault of the dog owners. What happens when that horse has had enough and lands a solid kick?

Ok so first of all if this is the first time the dog and horses are meeting the dog should have been on a leash and the dog was scaring the horses by barking and running close making it seem like a threat but I'm sure the dog didn't mean any harm but i do think the owners should of have tooken more responsibility. EDIT: the horses body language does show that they are annoyed and the horses did try to ignore the dog by walking away and trying not to make eye contact but it is obvious that the horses were just anoyed and maybe a little frightened.

Any horse can kill a dog. Horses being exposed to dogs around the home and yard is okay but NOT in an enclosure, where there is a direct threat. These people are not animal people, they are totally ignorant. Someday it will end in tears.
