@@marriedandvegan85 can i ask where do you plan to park it? At the moment that seems to be the biggest obstacle for me.

@@ItaintmeCCC It was a concern for us too but we came to realise that there's a whole bunch of parking places if you look for them on your travels. Beach/park areas, large enough residential roads. We've seen several conversions regularly parked up in different areas now that we're more aware of them. Just be prepared to move every so often I guess. I think the worse thing that's going to happen is someone asking you to move on. But time will tell! Are you considering converting something as large as a horsebox?

Hi Mike. Yes we do. Unfortunately my test was due 4 days after we went into lockdown! Just waiting for the dvsa to reopen them and I'm away! That's exactly what I was thinking with the ceiling but after some thought, I committed to it! My thinking is, the boards are glued and screwed to a counterbatterned ceiling. Then, on the 4ft joints I have false ceiling beams screwed through the plasterboard into timber which will take our lighting throughout. Fingers crossed this is enough🤞 I think the worst that will happen will be some filler in screw heads popping off but time will tell. Hiya, we have looked into local spots where the Horsebox can go but as for when we drive around that will all be a learning experience. We plan on traveling around the country so we will have to do our research before going to a new area

Hi Rolf, ours will be insured as a Motor home when we are on the road. We haven’t got as far as insuring it yet as we are still on the building stage lol

Well I have a hard time to find insurer in the uk. Our is workable and liveable. Just a ton of little things and the solar system to sort out

Hi Mark. So on the dvla website they have a checklist of what requirements you need to meet. Send that off with some photos and that should be sufficient. I've not done this yet so can't yet speak from experience. You'll find it on here. www.gov.uk/government/publications/converting-a-vehicle-into-a-motor-caravan/converting-a-vehicle-into-a-motor-caravan Basic stuff really. One of the requirements is a fitted table which can either be removable or permanently fixed. It's the only thing that is holding ours up. So, once I've done that, I'm sending off our application. As far as the mot is concerned. I phoned a local lorry plating company and told them my situation. I was told as soon as it's registered to a motorhome I just need a standard mot on it that a car garage can do providing it fits on their ramp. A bit of online research confirmed this. I'm not sure this would apply to yours considering it's over 7.5tonnes? Anyway, how bloody awesome. A 16tonne volvo conversion. If only I could have fit that on our drive! What model is it?
