On April 15th 2016 I picked up a wild untouched 2-year-old mustang for an mustang makeover competition. Within 3 days, I knew there was something special about this horse. Tag #9817, eventually named Lynx aka Wild Card. My third wild mustang.
Throughout those 4 years, we've been on so many adventures and have traveled cross-country multiple times together. Just us on the road. I don't know what I did to deserve such an amazing horse from a random draw. I didn't pick this horse, but he was the horse I needed. He's helped me through some really horrible times, but has also been the main factor in all of my good times as well. I have my team of my three "heart" horses.... it was only going to be two, my sweet PMU foal mares Calliope and Calypso. I didn't want a third, I was fine with my two, but I can't picture my life without this goofy mustang in it. I've gentled about 12-13 mustangs straight from the wild and loved them all but had to let them go so I could continue to gentle them. I just couldn't let Lynx go though. Okay, I'll stop rambling LOL. Here's some highlights of the past 4 years :) I don't have many videos from early on but I did find a few I didn't know I had. He was before I photographed/videoed everything.

Every time I watch these videos I think of all the poor horses that have been trained harshly and forced to do things that are painful and frightening to them. Then I see basically, a little girl, taking the time to know her horse, to teach him gently, to make him a friend and partner and it touches my heart so deeply. I always think it must have been like this in Eden.

I’ve been watching this over and over and it still hits home. I gotta thank you. You and Camille are pretty much the reason I got mustang. I showed my parents this video and a couple others of yours and they allowed me to do the OKC makeover this year and the horse I got is this little curly bay 2 year old, and he’s been the most awesome little horse. Today was his 6th ride and he was a little rockstar. He’s been pretty much the best horse I’ve trained, and there’s no way on Earth that I would have been able to get him without you doing these videos, so thank you!

How are you doing now?
@prairiediamondhorsemanship
@prairiediamondhorsemanship 4 ай бұрын
@@grapechild3030 Pretty well. My first mustang (the one I was talking about in this comment) is my main trail horse, safely taking me places that could easily kill me if he were to spook (ie. Mountain tunnels, cliff side trails, tall bridges, etc.) He also is working into my small riding lesson program, being ridden by intermediates and lead-line beginners. We also kicked butt in all the pattern classes this summer at the local gymkhana, taking multiple firsts in western pleasure, reining, and command. We also did our first English show (virtually) and placed 2nd via the Dutch scoring system on a low level dressage test. I have no formal coaching when it comes to English riding, and I’m the only person who’s trained him, so it’s pretty special to me. This horse is just plain awesome. I have since adopted 2 more mustangs, a now 6 year old mare and 3 year old gelding. Both are still a bit green but I have started the mare under saddle and the gelding I will probably start later this spring. Mustangs have completely changed my life and have opened so many doors that I otherwise wouldn’t have. It’s still in the process of sorting out details, but due to God using mustangs to introduce me to the right people, I may be able to live my childhood dream of training horses and covering mountain country horseback, a dream that I had given up on many years ago due to life circumstances. I have also met so many amazing mustang people across the country and some of them, despite living 5+ hours away, are the best friends anyone can ask for. There’s always some downsides to good things, and some middle age men like to hate and troll, but overall everything has been great. Long story short there’s been a lot of crazy life improvement since I made the original comment. :)

@@Itslex56 Hahaha! Glad someone else realized the Buckskin turned a Grey. I'm not crazy.... I had adopted a 2yr old out of Ely Nevada at a satellite adoption in Napa Calif. And she was a beautiful Steele Grey with stockings and a blaze, By the time she was about 7yrs old she was all white. And at a ride a older gentleman came over to see my mare and let me know how rare she was. And so I said "Whys that?" And he told me that think about it how often do you ever see a white Mustang. I though and decided no I haven't seen one. Or if I had I didn't remember... He then proceeds to tell me that the white horse is easier for predators to see at night. So their easier to catch, thus their usually eaten first. Oh thanks for that story, sir...

@ohwhatelse 3 жыл бұрын
@@valeriehunter3967 ... Well, I've seen many videos of white mustangs in the herd, of all ages & in some instances, including the stallion that sired them. But the logic is there. So maybe some were grey in the wild at a younger age.... P.S. I love the steel grey. I'd be disappointed if it turned white on me!

I cried after watching this! This horse is such a sweetheart from day one he wanted to love you and for you to love him. I’m very emotional right now because my horse passed away a year ago I haven’t managed to get another. When I saw this video it reminded me of her so much. Always willing to please, dependable, reliable....just a damn good horse! She had that same gentle nurse about her not seeing willingness to please no matter what. Hang onto this fella because he is like gold. The way he looks at you and how hard he tries to please you… Irreplaceable! And I laugh/cried when the picture of him sitting on that beanbag appeared! That is hilarious ! his face, his big belly, etc. just what a darlin he is. Very impressed with his jumping I mean he’s got some pop! His feet really get up there with ease. I can only imagine how much you’re going to accomplish with this horse as he matures. Thank you so much for this experience. Glad I decided to read the description...for a minute, during the first song, I thought you were getting ready to sell him😅 He’s an amazing horse and I’m glad he’s had you, and you’ve had him, to bring out the best in you both. Can’t wait to see what else you two do together and the adventures you share🤗 😉😊❤️

Such a beautiful video to watch! I've always been in awe of your methods...how you truly INSPIRE horses and make them want to join up with you! So great to see! What a journey through the video...so sorry to hear about the horrible times, but glad to hear about the good times too! Some of the jumping shots...both video and stills...were...just...breathtaking!!! Loved the glamour/professional shots too! Favorite (hard to pick) but you and Lynx in the snow, balloons and you looking beautiful in that red dress! Gorgeous shot! Oh! Speaking of gorgeous shots, the last shot of the video...sorry, but...Hottie Alert! You look amazing! Wishing you nothing but success for your future Sam! As always, thanks for sharing and taking us along! :)

Wow, this is truly amazing! It is like something you read in a fairytale or see in a movie. Lynx is absolutely beautiful. This is something I have always wanted to do but I will have to wait until I move out because I don't think my parents will let me have a horse let along a mustang. Keep up the good work.

That was the most beautiful and inspiring story ever ❤❤💯💯I'm going out to play with my mustang and keep pushing forward now😘I was close to giving up on my dreams of helping her to become my partner like you have with Lynx because she just doesn't seem to want to be bothered by any of this but maybe she's only confused and frustrated maybe I need to slow down a bit more with her🤔🤔🙏❤

@@SamVanFleet thanks for the encouragement it means a lot I've only had her about a year and she's a rescue so lots of mistrust in ppl before i got her...😪so lots to work thru but we're gonna make it! I worry about her hips or maybe her left stifle cuz she'll favor it wherever it's time to work but she doesn't seem like she is in any pain when running wide open with the other horses in the field......🤔I wonder could she actually be putting on an act cuz she is a pretty lazy girl when she don't feel like running around lol

@@mouthofthesouth4267 Lauren, there are lots of ways to train horses and not all of them work for all horses. Each horse is an individual. I found that clicker training has worked really well with my mustang. As well as just telling him a that I love him and kissing him about a thousand times a day. I also really like the books by Mark Rashid. Good luck with her!

or, if she "doesn't want to be bothered by any of this", you could just let her be and live her life in peace instead of bending her to your will for your entertainment, when she clearly doesn't enjoy it...

You scared me. When I saw the title and montage I thought something bad had happened to him. Now that I've stopped tearing up, I have to say... of all the horses you've worked with, Lynx is my favorite. He's super cute with a great mind and attitude. Brave and willing while still having that playful side. It's a great thing that you guys found each other; and amazing that he was a random pick for you. Enjoy each other as long as possible. I hope he lives on to be old and ... more grey? 😂
