I live in middle , Tennessee and you best believe they will be hearing from me and a couple of our equine friends. We will get a petition started if that what needs to be done ! As a scene, I’m ashamed that our law-enforcement would act that way meanwhile they don’t make animal control go out to any calls or do anything you have to call the sheriffs office to even get somebody to look at an animal that’s being abused !!! The state agriculture officer is being unreasonable! Using having a Coiggns tests as an excuse when the auction itself sold you horses in the past that didn’t have proper Coggins tests for those horses. I think what’s going on is the buyout program is taking money from the auctions commissions also the kill buyers and horse traders. Keep up the good work, they’re just trying to wear you down; this is a contest of the wills! Stand firm! I have no doubt HPHS will prevail.

All of this behavior is just adding evidence to the discrimination lawsuit that is sure to come. I hope you sue the sh** out of them.

There needs to be a lawsuit against the AG. These guys are out of control, and this good old boys mentality that makes them think they can break the law for no reason is ridiculous. It needs to stop. They need to fire whoever is doing this mess.

Let’s just face it - Tennessee is a suck state. I really admire you guys for setting up your shelter in one of the states that needs it the most, and for fighting for your rights as well as for the animals.

Your conversation with the State Vet reminds me of a conversation I was having with an official over the phone. WE went around in circles so much that I was dizzy. In the end, I asked if I was talking to a robot. Stay strong guys. You have the higher moral ground. That sheriff was on a power trip. Hate to be marries to him.

I don't understand how anyone could think your facility is subpar in any way. And I don't understand why law enforcement is so wishy washy. Sometimes they come to you for help, and then they act like this. But if you weren't there, they wouldn't provide anywhere near the help you do! I'm glad you have an attorney, and got all your paperwork and everything lined up.

You should file a restraining order on the office who was so confrontational stating you do not feel safe when he is at your facility.

The behavior of the LEO (Tennessee Department of Agriculture) is appalling along with the people of Cookeville and the auction house!! I applaud you for your professionalism in this matter. I hope that your organization prevails. You all do such an amazing job there to help animals which involves making some really tough decisions sometimes.

As long as there are irresponsible owners of animals there will always be animals suffering. There needs to be stronger enforceable laws against animal abuse!! Period! Auctions aren't responsible for the condition animals are brought to them, BUT there should be better oversite at the auctions and laws upheld against allowing animals in poor condition to be accepted by the auction houses.

I’m so happy Dr. Lydia is back… her knowledge is phenomenal and her explanation is so helpful to someone, like me, who has a few teens and mostly seniors. I really feel so bad for the suffering horses and donks…. At the same time, it’s such a hard thing to put your older horse down. Buy-out week seems to be working better than auction nights ... HSH seems to be rescuing many more horses through buy-out than was happening through auctions ... on top of this HPH seems to be getting sizable donations; enough to expand ... wonderful to see. Good-on-ya'all. Keep up the great work!

If a complaint was sent in about the auction and their coggins would they do the same thorough investigation? And it be recorded so the ENTIRE world would see that they were holding everyone the same accountability? I doubt it!! Again why has this not been brought up? If this rescue is held accountable then they should be too. Period!! Everyone i have ever seen that goes to auction knows they pull any coggins for a horse. Doesnt matter if its theirs or some random horse. Some the wrongs color 🤔. Amazingly swept under the rug but ONE rescue has to be totally transparent or theres a legal issue. A 2 yr old can see the BS that is happening

They are trying to pull everything they can on y'all because they think they can catch y'all doing something wrong and they can't. That law enforcement officer was rude beyond belief and needs to be reported immediately to his superiors. I am so glad y'all have an attorney who is doing the right thing and isn't letting anyone pull the wool over yall's eyes. What y'all do is such an amazing thing to save these precious horses donkey's and mules from the slaughter pipeline and giving them the chance that they deserve. These animals need love and caring

Over the nearly 50 years of owning horses, including many rescues, I can't count how many times my initial assessment of the horse's prognosis was wrong. So many times I didn't think a horse had a chance of survival, much less a return to comfort and was proven wrong. There were just as many times when I thought a horse looked perfectly treatable only to find a devastating diagnosis once a full exam and diagnostics were done. Horses are large animals that can not have any quality of life with certain injuries that a smaller animal maybe could. There are also fewer options available for larger animals verses smaller animals. On the positive side, there are illnesses and injuries that may cause terrible, but temporary suffering that can have a happy ending. I think you guys do a great job of showing and explaining this emotional roller coaster. You give every horse the best of care with thorough exams and diagnostics in order to make the best, but often the most difficult decision of the best course of action for each individual horse. No matter the course of action, every horse is treated with respect, love and kindness which many haven't experienced for awhile, if ever. I always think how so many of these horses were very much loved at some point in their life and had the rug pulled out from under them at their weakest moment once they were sick or injured. It's disgusting how people can be so cruel.

Pretty certain that the auction guys are paying hush money under the table to at least two of the law enforcement officers on a regular monthly or quarterly basis. Doubt that the auction would be stupid enough to pay them by check. Who knows? Maybe money transfers? Or, straight out cash in-hand. But, the officers, not thinking that anyone would want the illegal payments traced in such a small, tight knit community, are probably depositing the money into one of their bank accounts. Would be great if there was a way to legally have access to their bank accounts and have them explain where some of their deposits come from.

Wonderful news! I have loved this Horse Rescue and Animal Shelter since I found this Shelter on line and I don’t have horses, but I am lover of Rescue Shelters for Animals.. Thank you all for your compassion, dedication, graciousness, selflessness of service and willingness to work together for this animals.

This is easy to prove as the amount of time they are spending without provocation from HRP to try any catch you out is appalling. Jason, glad you are following through on the possible relationship/$/family connection among agri guy/law enforcement/politics and the auction house. As lovely as small towns are, power partnerships exist to keep toxic businesses going. The auction people are not the sharpest knives in the drawer; they could have calculated the commissions they would lose by excluding Horse Plus. Pure ignorance and backward thinking. You will help to clean things up and raise the consciousness in TN. Thank you!

This is why we have federal courts, because states and state/local officials can get so very incestuous with local business interests. My guess is that big lick and the owners of that auction are acting together in this. I note with interest that you are getting almost no big lick horses at your buyout, and you used to get them at auction all the time. And it’s not like that industry reformed itself.

Personally, I think holding future low cost vaccination, spay and neuter clinics would cool some heads. It brings people to your facility and they see how you operate and get to know you. It shows your worth to the community instead of only hearing the bad gossip and lies. OR Have an open house. Use visuals (media) to explain your beliefs, mission, experience/past and some great success stories. Like Black Beauty. You know the other side like Agriculture, some LE, city councils, mayors all have contacts and the dirt is flying cause a lot of them have contacts with the auction and Big Lick. So the goal is to get more people to believe in YOUR mission. Get the masses on your side. Educate the low income pet owners. I hope the best for you and your extraordinary organization. Keep your recorders on and your records updated daily. Evidence, evidence, evidence.

People who get you these horses disgust me. The pain, lack of food, lack of just plain daily care and love is horrible. Also why do people feel a need to question care that the vets give? Bully tyrant L.E.O. He didn't get his way, so like an immature child, he storms out. Jason, you 'should' try to respect the L.E.O.s,, . . . . hmmmmm, I'm not too sure about that. You should always stay alert & keep your senses when dealing with them. But in saying that, you also need to remember that most of those L.E.O.s don't even know the law. I laughed when he came in & spoke these words to Tawnee, "Hey look Tawnee, you & I know (I'm kind'a lost on the next few words, but they were something along the lines of the following) we were on the same phone conversation that Dr. (someone) explained every bit of this to you. You know by law, what the law is. You probably know the law as well as we do." This is where I burst out laughing! The majority of police officers DON"T know any laws! Don't forget that! They do not study "any" in-depth laws when they go through their training. Yes, they learn the basics. Most of them can't even offer a statue code to any law that they state. You darn well had a right to ask them to leave. To get off of your property & come back in 24 hours when you would provide the Coggins. Now, having said that, just because you had a right to, doesn't mean that you have to, or should take such a firm step. However! If I was Dr. Lydia, or Dr., Gina, there is no way in heck that I would have let them in during the surgery! Contaminating a surgical site, etc.! I would have demanded that they wait outside until the surgery was over! You can push without pushing over the edge like they are obviously doing. That kind of 'push' is called standing up for your rights, for what "is" right & not letting bullies walk all over you! And the entire topic of the beginning of this whole fiasco is so extremely childish on the part of the auction house! The seriousness of not having a law against castrating your own animals is disgraceful! Allowing an unlicensed person to be able to cut open any living animal , sedated or not, is almost like attempted murder! You are literally taking a knife, scalpel, . . whatever, it is still a sharp blade & injecting it into a living being! This is the childish point! I don't remember any of you EVER saying that it was the fault of the Auction facility. Correct me if I am wrong, please? The entire point of your mention, fight, cause, is to make everything that I previously typed in this paragraph illegal !! It should be a common sense law! The childish aspect is that they are taking it as a dig, or jab against themselves. Can you tell? I just don't like bullies & I am so sorry that you have to go through all of this. I have watched this video several times and the more i have watched it.... I am so much more upset. One would hope that the law enforcement woulld be apprehending criminals, but no. Harassment of a rescue foundation seems to be high priority. How the officer's actions truly upset the whole working staff is unacceptable and a lawsuit should take place. Where are so many destroyed horses coming from? It hasn't changed in the years I've had eyes on through you. The pipeline is fed by those humans who own horses, and those who make money at it.

You've been & guided/blessed by God through what youve done w that auction awful "castration" event .... It's very much changed your Mission. Keep it up! Might be worth trying to find out what connections the officer has with the auction house e.g. are they related through marriage or close friends. If you find a link then maybe you could get him barred from dealing with you as there would be a conflict of interest. Great strategy to have the lawyer on speed dial it’s one way of dealing with those who think they can bully and hide behind their badge. You know you are on the right path when others are feeling threatened and are getting agitated and defensive in their actions.

Have you guys thought about reaching out to Sam’s Club or Walmart Corporate and seeing if they would be willing to partner with you by “sponsoring” buyout events? My thought is that they own the parking lots and since you can provide them with documentation showing that you are doing this legally, then the Ag Guy has to take on Walmart’s legal department to go after you. I doubt they will want to do that. In addition, the local Walmart manger will have to leave you alone. Another option would be to approach any Petsmarts in your region. Each of their stores partners with an area rescue organization to host adoption events. I don’t know if they own their parking lots, but since they are so involved with the rescue community they may be able to work something out.
