The Paso Fino name means 'fine step' and is a blend of the Spanish Jennet, Barb and Andalusian horse and was bred by Spanish land owners in Columbia and Puerto Rico to be used in the plantations because of their endurance and comfortable ride. Puerto Rican and Colombian horses, as well as Paso Finos from Cuba and other tropical countries, have been interbred frequently in the United States to produce the modern American Paso Fino show horse. I had the joy to meet Estrella, a Paso/Arabian in Puerto Rico riding busy roads and remote trails. What a solid, courageous, and gentle mare with a gait like an angel.

My oldest Paso Fino mare is 25 this year and five generation back is a Peruvian Paso. She is a corto horse and is great for trails riding. I have both Peruvians and paso Finos. I love them both equally.

Are they similar to a Peruvian paso?

They are both gaited breeds but their movement is different. The Peruvian Paso "tends" to have more forward movement and their front legs exhibit a feature called Termino, which some people might mistake for winging out with the front legs. The Paso Fino will have a straighter leg action but work to perfect the gait and are generally shown going over sound boards so the rhythmic action can also be heard. Some people have never really seen a Paso Fino run under saddle, since most video shows them going slowly over sound boards. One of our episodes features a Pennsylvania farm where they use Paso Finos for endurance riding. You might enjoy this as well. yes, similar but the front feet gait is somewhat different. The peruvian wings out with the front feet, the paso doesnt.

Probably everyone involved with a particular breed, feels that way. Every breed has its strong points and its limitations, you just need to find what resonates with you best.

This is a beutiful video. But there only exist two (2) Paso Fino horse breed, the Colombian Paso Fino and the Puerto Rican Paso Fino. The "American Paso Fino" does not exist. Both the Colombian and the Puerto Rico breed share a common origin, however, an isolation of one breed from the other, for almost 500 years, make them very different. The Colombian Paso Fino horse Federation -Fedequinas, does not allow Pinto coat color as does the PFHA.

It figures. In their arrogance, Americans are constantly taking credit for things and ideas from elsewhere. Most especially from Canada and Mexico. They do it so much that even they start to believe it. It drives Canadians crazy, but we never hear how Mexicans feel about any of it.

The so call Paso fino horse genetics speaking come from Puerto Rico horse call criollo horse meaning breed in our home land special in the center mountains of Puerto Rico we have them running 45 miles a hrs in Paso largo but in reality such blood and breed can be found almost pure blood in one horse call the wild spanish mustang cetbac of arizona such horse from far alway anyone can see the spirit and the macho in his standing and walk his eyes his hair and others details I think people should look more closer to the wild spanish mustang cetbacs from Arizona State in reality here where the real diamond can be found from the ancient spaniard breed horses from the ancients iberians celts breed holes really

@@donald8354 jjj well one thing you should know the best horse in Europe was made by the Iberian celts call Spain today plus the best running horse or track horse of USA ever had was from Puerto Rico you can look USA racing 🐎 horse in USA history and the best of the best probably can be found some place in USA wild Spaniard mustang 🐎 not in a little rich place in a cage some place in USA the horse always belong in history to the Iberian celts real simple the best of the best you even can talk about the Arabian horse but he is not a genetic put to perfection he is not a all season horse at all but the Iberian celts calvary horse was always the best from war to get alway look into Arizona Spaniard wild mustang he is the man the ancient blood lines ok I can't say much history speak about herself ok .kp dreaming Puerto Rico give USA the 3 most famous horses in history and put the TV on ok you will see the ancients Iberians celts blood lines walking with all the world titles in the blood arenas la Nina la pinta la Santa Maria and said amen real simple

Hi, its not a cutting bit. Its a flexible leverage bit.

No, the "Paso bit" mouth piece is not fixed like a western shank bit. With a leverage bit when pressure is applied the curb is the first thing the horse feels. When properly used.

I noticed that too! I've begun to ride a paso fino with friends, and we use a hackamore (mechanical). I am learning that I have to have it loose, not what i'm used to with a snaffle, the more I tighten up on him the less he settles.
