The thing is, when they have multiple auction tags or evidence there were, they have been traveling in a truck for up to 3 days with no food or water. You have to pay for feed at auction and kill buyers don't bother. Congress needs to pass the care act but won't unless voters push.

I know. It hurts my heart so much. Thank God for the earthbound angels and Tawny's promise to save as many horses as she could as a little girl, to grow up and make good on her promise. God bless and watch over them all. Poor sweet, precious babies ! Their t4oubles will all be behind them now.

A vet coming with you to the auction is like the best thing ever. You can get almost an immediate evaluation even if it's just basic.

That horse that stumbled out of the trailer broke me. 💔 How can any one subject their poor old faithful horse to a fate like that. I'm thankful for your organization that gives your all to bring some dignity to these precious animals in their suffering. Thankfully some survived to know love.

What a loyal horse - 30 yrs of age ! I have run into some people who didn't want to call a vet, although the horse had a broken leg....Be kind, and humanely euthanize, if a horse is ready to cross the rainbow bridge ....

These people should be tortured just like the poor horses they unload. This is unforgivable and unacceptable. Maybe you can't afford the best but basic hay shelter and water and a wormer isn't breaking the bank. If need ask for help!!!!!

I'm amazed that all you need at the end of a day like this, is pizza. I'm pretty sure I'd be looking around for cheesecake & a fifth of bourbon. You are all very brave, and there are 30 grateful horses because of what you all did today. And one puzzled tortoise.

Rains a lot and muddy fields. Some of these horses have been to multiple auctions. Some auctions have outside pens. The horses are so exhausted getting fed is hit and Miss. same with water. Strange horses environment people they’re so stress. Just so awful.

@@ricklaurelnovotny4829 These lots barely make an effort to feed and water these horses, so I highly doubt they even bat an eye if they're dirty. It's a super sad but true reality that these poor babies have to deal with not even getting their basic needs met, alot of them, for the rest of their lives. These places should be outlawed. I don't understand how it's legal to begin with. Our laws in the US around animals as a whole need to change. I hate that living, breathing, intelligent creatures are just considered property, no higher regarded than some inanimate object sitting on someones shelf collecting dust. 😥

This auction intake was extremely hard to watch. I usually don’t cry watching them, but this one was rough. Thank you for bringing comfort to those poor horses and the baby donkey. There is no excuse for this and laws need to be put in place NOW.

Very difficult auction. The paint collapsing reflects what people do to equine with no care of outcome. Appreciate your efforts and good to see you had a vet with you. The others were in such bad shape you lost. Hopefully those that got through intake have a bright future. The shell determines turtles vs tortious. Some areas have laws about care. Hopefully you can transfer care. They need space. Thanks for sharing

Tortoises are exclusively land-based, turtles are either aquatic or semi-aquatic. :) This is definitely a tortoise- a Sulcata, in fact! And they're gonna have to keep him VERY warm. They like it to be between 85-105F during the day!!

Man, watching some of these auction rescues tears my heart out. I just hate what people do to these sweet babies. I've said it many times before, but bless you all for saving them.

Thank you for all you do. In my lifetime on the family farm, 85-90% lived their life here. My dad passed on 4-15-22...I promised him all 5 horses/ponies/minis & the donkey would stay. Unfortunately since my brother (owner or the farm had passed 1-20-22) the estate has had me get rid of 2 (a local tiny rescue screened the family for me) & my niece found a home for the donkey. Dad turned our farm into a retirement home so I was concerned no one would love them like we did. Horse rescues are so helpful, whether they have room or not! Plz keep helping as much as possible! You dont know the situation if the previous owner, because if there is a death in the family & an estate kicks in, your hands are tied.

How full of opposites this world is. Some bring a horse to brink of death and see them as useless objects to get few bucks from and then there are some like adopter of Penny who burst with joy just from seeing the horse and sees it as the most beautiful creature.

I’ve forgotten your LVMT’s name, (I think it’s Jenna), I’m so sorry I’ll check back, I just wanted to say she’s precious. She knows her stuff and is so empathic, I love her. Thank you for your care at the auction, the way you touched and cared for the poor grey horse who’s eyes were ulcerated really moved me to tears. Your heart is huge but I can see how much this auction particularly affected you. Bless your heart, I wanted to just hug you. I’m only up to the auction part of this episode as I’m writing this, I just felt moved to give you a shout out and say, Horse Plus is so blessed to have you, you have such a beautiful soul. Right, back to the episode now I’ve dried my eyes.

Glad you were able to rescue as many as you did. So very difficult to say good bye too. I love animals and specially horses; tears evey time I watch auction and intake. Thank you for that last act of kindness. Wish the people who let those horses get that bad could be arrested for cruelty! Saving the tortoise was wonderful!

People or Owners need to be held accountable for letting their animals get in such poor condition. I pray for stiffer laws . I coudnt do this for a living because it just tears my heart out. You have the most important job on earth as far as I am concerned

I like that auction guy in the white hat. He helps you load the horses/donkeys/minis etc. I bet he waited with that tortoise knowing that Horse Plus will take care of him. Really sad that someone cares more about money than a sick horse that needs the last act of kindness. That horse died knowing it was finally loved and safe. Thank you for taking care of all these poor animals. I have noticed how sad they look at auctions then a few weeks later how happy they are. Totally different demeanor. Even a difference just being back at the shelter. It's like relief you see in their faces. Amazing work you do ❤️❤️

I’ve not been able to watch your videos since I lost my old mare aged 28 last December. It was just to painful to watch horses in such horrendous condition. I honestly don’t understand how anyone could without guilt send their horse to slaughter. Especially when the are in such a horrible state. I had my mare for 20 years. Couldn’t ride her the last 2 years due to medical issues but I’d never have just got rid of her. My heart breaks for these animals. Thank you for saving them ❤

A tortoise. There was a tortoise at the auction. Wow. And at that size, it's DECADES old. They're easy enough to keep, just let them into a smaller enclosed/fenced in area with grass, toss greens at it, and a large dish of water. It might have a metabolic problem with the shell curving that way, but sunshine and food cures a lot. She looks very cool. I'd love to have one again....

Iceberg lettuce has very low nutritional value and should not be fed to tortoises. Dark, leafy greens such as romaine lettuce, kale, collard, mustard and dandelion greens should make up the bulk of the diet. Other greens to try include: bok choy, red leaf or green leaf lettuce, butter lettuce, water cress, escarole, parsley, turnip greens and green onions. They also enjoy fruits, particularly watermelon. A tortoise should also have an indoor enclosure in the winter. The temperature should be kept between 50°- 65°.

Some sort of Galapagos tortoise, hubby and I believe. The closest large zoo should be able to assist.

looks like a sulcata maybe. They're way too easy to get as babies and are thus commonly abandoned at that size, since they can burrow through drywall and do damage to cement and foundations if kept improperly. They are quite easy to keep once you get the enclosure and temp right, as mentioned by other comments. Ideal would be a nice heated shed big enough to stay in over the winter but with access outside when weather permits, or an adopter located somewhere like Arizona Likely didn't get adequate lighting and diet when it was younger and thus it's shell will likely be weird for life, this may or may not cause issues down the line. This one doesn't look that severe but I have no vet training, i like like turtles and tortoises Fruits should be given sparingly, they are like candy to them. I'm sure horse plus understands that though, as apples are similar with horses.

$250 can be a lot of money to people on fixed incomes. But there's still no excuse because you can turn to rescues or even the humane society to get them put to sleep at no cost. Or if you're lucky they can just help the animal. Still emergency vet care is how my savings account got started. I wanted at least $300 saved for them period.

I appreciate Tawnee's comment about knowing when one gets a horse (or any animal) that end of life issues will occur. Over the years. I have put down 3 horses, several dogs and cats. It's part of responsible animal ownership.

Being from Australia I loved seeing the koala pop up here and there. Hopefully he didn’t scare the horses too much and gave you guy some smiles. We are blessed not to have a slaughter pipeline. One benefit of living on and island.

@@dianehunsberger2271 brumby's are wild horses. They used to catch them and break them in, some still do but not in the barbaric ways they used to (as far as I know). They are/were very good horses to drive cattle the massive distances because they were used to living in the harsh conditions but the majority of stockman took excellent care of their horses because it was their only way of surviving. No horses become food. Not long ago there was suspicion of horse meat being sold. The place was shut down and they received huge fines and jail time.

We definitely have a slaughter line. Many thousands of horses, mostly thoroughbreds, standardbreds and station horses are killed every year and their meat sold internationally. Australia is one of the highest exporters of horse flesh in the world. With only a few knackeries that take horses, they often transport them for days (I know the slaughter trucks from Echuca horse sales in Victoria travel to South East Queensland for a knackery there). Laverton knackery was shut down over repeated animal abuse violations exposed by media and activists. Watch HAAP videos to see the utterly disgusting and often hidden state of auctions in Australia.

@@KirstyM100 Here is a not too graphic video of Echuca's horse auctions from just a few years ago. I've personally seen horses there just like those seen in these videos. Horses put down in pens in unbearable pain, horses with strangles, horses with severe laminitis, horses so stressed they throw themselves into the bars and flip over, foals born in pens from mares dropped off overnight. Australia has a well hidden underbelly of extreme neglect and abuse of horses. Due to owners dropping their horses at auction, RSPCA considered that as owners 'taking action' so never saw a single case investigated or prosecuted. There is an episode on" 4 corner's " a few year's ago that filmed horse's being slaughtered in Australia. Very horrific and sad

My father put me on my first horse at 18 months and I have loved them ever since. I can't believe that people due this to horses or really any animal. It is wrong. THANK YOU for helping these poor souls. I don't care if you believe animals have a soul or not... Leaving an animal in agony like some on these horses just proves you are the soulless one. In my opinion.

There is a Reptile rescue in Willard NC that specializes in tortoises. We had an African Sulcate tortoise dumped on us and they were kind enough to take him. They are amazing people. It's Fresh Start Rescue Inc.

Thank you for the longer episode, that made me really happy! But to see the horses (and donkey) in these conditions - so, so sad! The horse that was down in the trailer, the one that barely could walk, the little donkey….To see Doc with the animals always touches my heart deeply. He has such a special way treating them with so much compassion, care and diligence. So glad there was pizza waiting for you at the intake! I can only imagine how tough it must have been. Yet still so many lives saved and that’s amazing!

I could probably guess which of the horses had to have the last act of kindness - but where do you see the update? I'm in awe of you all. its so hard to see the condition these poor babies are in. I can't even imagine what you all go through. Bless you all for being there and for giving them at least a little love in the last moments of their lives!

Little sweeties Penny and Dime!!!Dime looks just like my mare Gin I have been seeing horses that look like her everywhere lately! Shes gone now but i miss her so so much she was my best friend for many years.

I believe a lot of unintentional cruelty stems from human cruelty first. People left destitute after a medcal bill for example. Still, rescues like yours exist to help with rehoming, rather than letting the animal left to wallow and suffer.❤

My heart breaks whenever a rescued horse tries desperately to eat grass in the holding pens. They're going to have free access to grass & water forever now thanks to Horse Plus❣

When I see these horses, I think of when they were born, all fresh with life with the owners thinking of what beautiful lives they would live. Then they end up like this.
