@TaraFarms I am not a sheep farmer, however I have watched several and subscribed to a few sheep farmers. I do recall Scotland and England having so much rain this spring and losing a number of lambs. Cammie with his first breed type. Also this husband and wife breeders lost a number of their little ones like you outside breeders. I watch Sandi, who has a barn and is, like me, Canadian we’ve had a period of hot and humid with temps in the 35 + Celsius and a feel like temp of into the 40’s Wear sunscreen!! It’s better to look young when you’re old. than to look old when you’re young. Wear sunscreen !!

Tara I’m a nobody from nowhere , your videos are showing just how fricken hard farming is. No one wants to see you lose animals esp the babies but some times things are out of our control . You’ve rescued plenty because you care. I’m not sure if you realise just how funny you are. Your dry sense of humour cracks me up . I am sad for you and your family ,your working your guts out to keep farming with little or no thanks. Again I say thank you for farming and keeping Australia fed . I knew you had to have ridden a horse or two ,I used to ride but never owned my own horse , you baby was beautiful and adored you . Horse will only do what they want to and if they trust you. Tara, the positivity of this video is that the lambs that you have gathered and penned and fed, they have and will survive. This is such a harsh reality of caring for livestock. Most people don't even consider this. They just think, "Oh, it must be so great to be able to hang out with all the babies." It's hard work. You prove that in every video. And there are bad times, really bad times, times you just can't forsee or avoid, and living things die. You are just so amazing, and I appreciate you taking the time to share the ups and downs of being a farmer. You've done such hard work to care for the animals in your care. Even if they are meant for meat, you don't treat them like meat or money. You treat them with respect and compassion, and that's a food I can feel good about consuming.
@LunarRaevyn
@LunarRaevyn 5 күн бұрын
And it's so hard, especially when babies are so fragile. It's hard to help them all. They endure a lot but their bodies are still growing and aren't as resilient as an adult yet, yet so many people want to judge when they're trying to do their best with what they can. People get very emotional when baby animals or cute animals get sick and die, and I do too, but blaming the the owners that do everything they can to help them live is heartless. Everyone wants to think there's gonna be a miracle, and when there isn't, then they get angry. It's sad. I don't work with animals, but my mom has worked as a vet tech and I watch a lot of livestock farmers. There's a lot of struggle and i respect the care they put into the animals

I used to spend school holidays with my Mum and Dad on a family friend's farm in South Australia. It was one of the highlights of the year for me, and then we were told, "Don't come up, not this year". Didn't find out until years later it was because they were shooting their stock rather than let them starve to death, and they hadn't wanted a child witnessing that (fair enough). It's an unforgiving business farming in Australia. I'm sorry for what you guys are going through.

Thought I might add to the "What should I bring to Australia?" thing as an Aussie who has lived in the Urban and Rural areas of Australia, as well as the top and bottom end of our country. - The sunscreen is a must, even if you've got darker skin and don't typically get sunburnt, I'm telling you right now the sun in Australia doesn't care and will give you skin cancer anyway. (Source: My Grandmother who is a dermatologist) - A hat and polarised sunglasses are also a really good bet in the summer. - While malaria is not a thing in Australia, we do have other Mosquito borne diseases, such as Dengue. As well as some home grown favourites like Murray Valley Encephalitis and Ross River Fever. While they're quite rare, I'd definitely second the comment on bug spray. - If you're near the coast, definitely bring your bathers, but for God's sake listen to the life guards. - If you're anywhere near the mountains, bring some good boots and go for hike, it's damn beautiful. Especially in the temperate rainforests of Eastern Victoria, which are my personal favourite. Other than that, we're a modern industrialised country, if you're planning on being here for a while, you can usually get most things here anyway.

Its very rare I comment on things however, I wanted to say thank you for the recent videos. It's been a shit time for you recently but, I think its incredibly important for people to see the reality of raising livestock. Too many people are out of touch with how they get the food on their plate and never think about the struggles someone may have gone through so they could enjoy a good meal. It's rewarding work that also has a tendency to kick you in the gut when you're already down. I will live and die on the hill that farmers care more about animals than any other group of people in the world, and each one of your videos prove that. I wish the best for everyone and everything on the farm. Hope the drought ends soon.

My family dairy farms with the additional of growing our own crops. It has been difficult to plant or even harvest alfalfa to fill our empty silos from the winter, in order to feed our cows. Farming really is a battle against the weather no matter where you are. Either mother nature is on your side rooting for you or she turns into your worst enemy overnight. It really is a gamble every year and droughts are the worst. As a fellow farmer, I hope and pray that rain is coming your way soon!

Love your channel. I remember the farm my father would keep our boat and fish. The owner of the farm raised lambs for market too. I remember watching the farm hands shearing the sheep. Thanks for bringing back these wonderful memories my friend. Love each week see you and your pets each week. Thank you for all your hard work you put into these wonderful adventures for us :-)

It's not anyone's fault that it hasn't rained. Please don't feel bad or pressured to have good news or happy content. It is sad and unfortunate, but that is just the reality of farming. Love your content and how humble you are. It's obvious that you care, and that's what matters. ❤

Completely understand where your coming from. We live about 25 mins from where your P.O box is. This time last year we were sitting on around 375ish mm. This year we are just over 235ish mm. For us to not be in a drought zone, we need to be around or over 400mm. We thankfully dont have any animals ( except pets) but we do have a small vegetable crop which we are starting to notice slowing down due to lack of rain. Hope and pray our parts of Victoria start to see some decent rain soon.

Wow you're nursery is growing Tara with the way that the weather has been lately it doesn't surprise me that you have losses the last week has been bloody freezing I had pigs give birth 2 days ago one had 5 piglets the cold killed them all another had 10 7 lost to the cold nature is cruel between lack of rain and severe frost it makes life hard on the animals it was nice to see your pet sheep I haven't seen them since I picked up the ones that I bought from you they look good
@TaraFarms
@TaraFarms 7 күн бұрын
Absolutely is! The oldest ones now are coming up to a month old and are finally starting to eat grass and grain! I'm sorry to hear about the pigs, I assume they come out hairless so they would be cold. You need the pig igloos like on Clarkson farms for the pigs! Glad they're doing well for you! If you want more send me a message, could have some of these orphans if you're interested 😊

Wish i could dump sydney’s rain we’re expected to rain for the whole week. Is it only victoria? Australia having droughts again is the worst. Takes me right back to 2018-2019 when we could’nt use our garden taps. Praying sydney weather will fly to yours ❤

I am so sorry. This is heartbreaking and shows that no matter how hard you try and how good you do your job, one single component (in this case rain) can have devastating consequences. I hope you get rain soon and the rest of the year works out better for you guys. ❤

Spinner here- there's an appetite for Aussie wool i think! reach out to the spinners and Weaver's guild! And Victoria is also great with lots of small local mills and a scourer. We are picky with breeds and vm though (the latter if you're thinking about raw fleece)- i know you have Merino but don't know what other wool sheep you have.

Tara I am so sorry that you all are enduring such a difficult time. You guys are an amazing team of farmers, who are doing great work, making difficult decisions, problem solving, and keeping as many lambs alive as possible. In short, you ALL are doing your best! I will pray for you and for rain. Oh and I think you should get Typo on anyone who says something stupid like why don’t you just water the grass since it’s dying (because they don’t actually watch your videos but decided they needed to comment). ❤

I'm 48 and people younger than me have literally said," just wait for the aches and pains when you're older. ". My answer was," I already have them I'm older than you, I just keep going cause I have to." When I was younger it bothered me that people thought I was a kid, now I mostly just laugh. I have pretty much white in my brown hair, you would think people would clue in. Hoping for a nice steady day of rain for you, and not just a down pour that runs off. Boone (from my pic) says hi to Slug, and he liked your lamby montage.
