As I listen to these German anthems, "auf Deutsch", they have a genuinely "lifting" of spirit, creating a strong sense of unity and purpose among my distant relatives; some of whom survived the war. When I asked a few why they so strongly supported Hitler, one older male replied, "Because to make Germany GREAT AGAIN! (This was in the late 1950's; long before Trump. In comparison, watch and/or listen to that American "fight song" from WW One, that is, "Over There". That is a comparable rallying call to war, glory, WINNING, etc. Such music in mass settings are powerful motivators. It's that damnable sin of PRIDE, i.e., thinking so much of your nation that WE, the PEOPLE, feel that our nation is the best in the world. And, therefore, we are the Right & Duty to rule over all others! BAD NEWS! That's how WW One got started; WW 2 was simply the "second act" of the European power struggle of the 20th century. BEWARE THE AMERICAN VS. CHINESE COMPETITION!

Germany was made to "take the blame" for both WWI and II as if they existed in a vacuum, I have just travelled through France by autoroute and every service station has books about WWI which resulted in the "hurt" done to France in the Franco- Prussian War of the 1870s, it's nonsense, not one of those books mentions that France had attacked France and stole Alsace and Lorraine in the 1830s nor that they had been German staes lands under the Holy Roman Empire. British history teaches of "Belgium's neutrality" but rarely mentions that German troops captured French troops already there, history isn't taught to educate, it's taught to cntrol with its parrtiality.

This song is not really about dominating others but is really speaking about domestic civil defence, you have to understand that Germany had sufferred a year of starvation from the Armistice to the "take it or leave it" treaty in 1919, 800,000 children starved that year, the country had been riven by communist uprisings, open warfare on the streets with the Spartacists (Rosa Luxemburg knew Stalin as did Emma Lazarus whose words were co-opted for the Statue of Liberty, the struggle that's being referred to his that of shrugging off the societal wreakage of the Versailles Treaty. I'm about half way through reading the VT and so far the conclusion would be "who could blame them" but then the VT was designed to fail from day one.

My high school's German teacher was a native German. She migrated to the USA two years later and remained. She returned to Berlin in 1936 for the Olympics. And, I vividly recall, actually "cursing" Hitler in our class! She claimed that Hitler was a "dangerous devil:" but that he had almost a hypnotic effect on people; especially when they were in large (mass) groups! She became a naturalized American citizen before WW 2 began!

@derpfandsammler: völlig richtig ! Dieser Dreck darf bei youtube stehenbleiben. Aber WEEEEEHE, wenn du die gefaketen Hunde"rettungs"videos kritisierst und entlarvst, mit denen diese Filmer anhand der Likes bis zu 10.000 € pro Monat von youtube bekommen, dann trifft dich der Bann der Zensur. Das Gleiche gilt für die "Lehr"videos der Hundevermenschlicher, in denen gegen die naturgegebene Hundedenkweise der Rangordnung und gegen jegliche Art von Erziehung und Grundgehorsam gezetert wird. Diese zu kritisieren bringt dir auch sofort denn Bannstrahl der Zensur ein.
