So combs are great! In front of us we have a HOT hair comb that claims to straighten hair. I think it's a great idea, but does it do a better job than other hair staghteneing products like flat irons or hair straigntening brushes. There is a lot of competition. I'm gonna test this product and see if it's worth looking at this product or if it has any advantages over other products on the market.

This is what my mom used every week on my sisters 4c hair when she had washday. I think they have been around for years in the back hair community. They didn't used to be electric, you used to have to heat it up on the stove. You can use the curved back of the comb to hit little baby hairs and to give the root some lift.

Most African American women would just use this electric straightening comb for the edges of their hair. Around their faces and the back of their heads, nearest the neck. There are straightening combs that you:d beat on the burner of a stove or a professional stove for straighteners.

@kdenised
@kdenised 3 жыл бұрын
@@nicolemiller7022 heres my over simplified opinion and explanation: If your hair isn't coarse I wouldn't use it. It also needs oil to work well So if your hair type isn't the kind where you oil your scalp and spray oil sheen or oil based products when using flat irons, I wouldn't use this product. I also wouldn't use an electric one. Honestly, if you're not already familiar ( from childhood) with a hot comb and how to use it, it's likely not your best first choice.

Hot combs work better for hitting those edges for people with course or very curly hair. The old school version works better, but you really gotta know what you’re doing! My daughters have a 4c and this tool is key to success as part of a complete style routine. This tool will not be helpful for you because your hair is essentially already straight, and at that point you just want to press it with the flat iron. Also, product like serum and oil make a major difference in combination with this step using the hot comb, which would be tricky on your hair to not make it too heavy. I was checking out this video because I was thinking about trying it on my roots, that have cowlicks and grow in every possible direction. 😒 The flat iron just cant get that close to my scalp. I’m just gonna try it and see! Thanks for sharing!

"You can see a huge difference". If you could find video footage of black women with curls and coils, and them having the type of straightening comb that isn't electric used on their hair, you'd really see a huge difference. For many, many years, black women used and still use straightening combs that weren't electric and had no temperature control. You'd put it on your stove, directly into a low flame, put grease on your hair; something like "Royal Crown", and use the comb to melt the grease as your combed through the hair. That's what makes the hair extremely straight and full of shine or sheen. Using the back part of the comb added heat that helped to smooth the hair. There are curling irons that were used in the same way....right into the flame. Those make gorgeous curls. It takes skill to use those tools, and thankfully my mom had them. I tried an electric comb once. Didn't do much of anything to my hair in comparison to the "old school" type or even flat irons. My hairstylist still uses the 'old school" tools because some of her clients don't trust the flat irons. She used them on me once and I was reminded of when my mom used to style my hair. I miss my mom!

Yes it is a race thing. Hot combs are used notoriously for black woman and men and for people with thicker and curly hair. For the most part the tool works best on type C hair not her thin and porous hair type. For her hair type she should be using a straightener, I would also like to point out the fact that she is not using the tool correctly in the first place.

My hair has always had I tiny bit of wave in it. I’ve always wanted curly hair. I’m in menopause (at 44). I am not a fan. However... my hair curls now. Right out of the shower! 😃 Hormones. 🤷‍♀️

My mother used a hot comb on my hair as a child before and between straightening perms and she bought an electric one for me a few years back. I ended up giving it away when I realized I was never going to use it. Don’t get me wrong, there nothing wrong with putting a hot comb through your hair as long as you do so safely. I just realized it wasn’t for me. I love my hair just the way it is and I find that despite the upbringing that taught me my kinks and curls would not be acceptable, no one, nowadays of course, gets up-in-arms about what I do with my hair or dictates how it should look. Now, I can’t say there aren’t still places where that still happens but, it’s certainly less.

You should be using the edge of the comb also. The edge of the comb has the flat strip, that is what you use to straighten the hair.

You should educate your subscribers on where the hot comb came from at least do a little back ground check well “research “on what your using and I’m pretty sure MADAM C.J WALKER would be the first thing that pops up. I think a lot of people would appreciate that up date on it because Alot seem blind in the comments , including you that would be good “something I’ve learned “ because this is over 100 year old tool . 💙

She may have low vitamin d and thyroid. That happened to me after having a baby. I had extremely thick hair before baby. I wasn’t able to hold a curl either. And after baby my hair got so thin. I ended up finding out I was low vitamin d and thyroid. The doctor said both of those things cause hair loss

Nope, it is named hot comb iron not teeth, been in the black community for more than 100 years old. Between 100 plus to 200 years old. My grandma, aunties, family used to use it. And as a kid, she used to use it on my hair before it was created with a cord. She would put on the stove and sit us down hot iron our hair to straighten it out for special occasions. So it is not called teeth lol, I guess you all just starting to learn what was already existing in the black community.

@@Fromdarknessintothelight ya ive used those ones without the cord that have been around for generations. They work so well. So I was referring to the comb cut outs/teeth. Like on a brush they are called bristles. So was it generations ago that they were called comb cut outs and over time they started to be called teeth? Or are hot combs called cut outs and plastic type cutting comes called teeth? I hope I'm making sense. Just curious cause names for things change and evolve and its interesting.
@Fromdarknessintothelight

@@DezzKI well the real name is a hot comb or hot iron comb. Not sure who stolen the idea and rename it. Been for more than 100 years old or 200 years old before straight/ perm came in the picture, they would hot iron comb their hair to go to Sunday service or party, my late grandma would put it on the stove and hot it up then iron comb my hair while I was sitting by her stove in the kitchen. Same style hot comb only a bit heavier made entirely out of iron now lighter with a cord.

so you have to smooth the end opposite the teeth of the comb over the hair. It's a bit like chasing a comb with a flat iron. If you just run the teeth through, you're not doing much. And in my experience, before I learned how to use one, it's just gonna frizz
