I have a mini and am considering getting a max (13 x 9 version) also. Been using the mini in my truck (truck driver here) for about 3 years and it works great. I have a 60+ quart chest freezer (Whynter brand, settable from -6 to 50 degrees and runs off 12v DC or 120v ac) and I buy a bunch of frozen meals (usually Smart Ones) and heat one while driving. It takes from 1.75 to 2.5 hours minimum (depending on mass of meal), but can stay in there much longer. If the meal has noodles (or rice) but is light on sauce, the noodles can get slightly crispy in spots but you can pull the meal out as soon as the sauce has thawed and kind of "swish" it around to coat the noodles and then drop it back in there. WAY cheaper than buying truck stop food.... and so many have removed their restaurants anyways and replaced them with fast food or cafeteria choices that are closed when you pull in later in the evening. If you are on the fence about one of these, just dive in. If space isn't an issue just get the max version as it will fit more food (you + honey or coworker) AND it would be great for a bigger dish to bring to (and keep warm during) a pot luck. -Just my $.05 (inflation doncha know!)

I use mine to start my breakfast before I start getting ready for work. I may go back to sleep for an hour and my breakfast is ready when I am. I also use it makek my dinner most nights. I just bought a second one. I'm just wondering how many years I can use my first Hot logic mini -2 to 3 times a day before it wears out.

Rick, did you know that you can put the carboard box that dinner came in on top of the heating element? I watched a KZfaq video from Hot Logic Mini and they put the dinner on there right from the freezer. They say not to open the cardboard or vent it or anything, just put it directly on top of the heating element. I'm going to try it someday. Just thought you might like to know that tidbit. :)

Wouldn’t the waxy box coating melt into the heating element? I ask because I once took a large Stouffer’s lasagna to a party, already heated up, and the wax got on my gloves.

Rick,were you or a family member in the Marines? I notice the fork you are using is from a USMC mess kit. My father served in the Marines during WWII. We used his mess kit for years when we went camping.

I'm still trying to get the functionality of this unit is this something you leave at home all day before you go to work come home and it's ready? is it enough for two people?? I always see Rick eating it?? I'm still waiting to buy an air fryer! Can't make up my mind!
@RickMammana
@RickMammana 7 жыл бұрын
+samsacre Yes you can do that. I usually set it when I go to sleep and it's ready whenever I wake up. All day since good or a few hours. It's enough for 2 or more people depending on how much food you put in.

Yeah, I wonder if this is safe enough to use like it’s a flat slow cooker, where you can leave it at home and not worry about a fire. I, personally, don’t trust slow cookers. There is no such thing as, “Whoops! I guess that was a defective model. Sorry it killed your pets and burnt your house down. Bye!”

Question for you Rick. I made a Chicken (raw, cut into ~ 1 inch pieces) mushroom, carrot (diced), and onion (diced) curry the other day using the Hotlogic Mini. The cook was around seven hours and the chicken turned out moist and tender, however, the carrots and onions did not get that pressure cooker or slow cooker tenderness. It was a good meal served over rice, just the root veggies still had a bit of crunch. Have you noticed this with root veggies cooked in your Hotlogic ? I'm thinking that it just doesn't get quite hot enough to break down the fibers of root vegetables like carrots, potatoes, etc ...
@RickMammana
@RickMammana 7 жыл бұрын
+USNVA11 Hmmm I can't remember cooking with vegetables like that. Kathy did and she said it takes all day but they were ok for her.

Root veggies are pretty hard to cook in the Hot Logic. It just doesn't get hot enough. We always recommend using canned or frozen for carrots, potatoes, etc.
