I finished making my hot tent the day before heading out to Mew Lake Campground in Algonquin Park, for a hot tent trial run with it. In case there are any issues, I want to be near some type of assistance. In Part 1, I show the full set up of the tent and have some fun hanging out with my friends Ben and Tim. I check out Ben's UF... errr tentsile tent and we go on a beautiful hike to Mew Falls. For a more detailed report on this trip, check out the blog post at CamperChristina.com.

I've never done any winter camping in my life, I really admire you! We stayed at Mew Lake Campground over 10 years ago and a big black bear came over to our campsite in the middle of the night, so I'll never forget our trip.

I’ve been winter camping since 2016. It’s very peaceful. You could always start in a yurt and see what you think. It’s very beautiful and peaceful in the winter and no bugs. Lol. Cheers

Crazy amazing!! I'm starting to think about solo camping. Not in these temps but just getting out without the big deal of coordinating my friends together, then a few refuse to tent it so they do the cabin thing. I want to just get it and go when I feel like it. Thanks for the inspiration.

I found your last message and I believe you’re asking about the quiet water symposium? It is on March 2nd. Hope that helps. Have a great day! And thanks for the comment. I know you all didn't bring all that stuff up into the mountain with two backpacks and the stove alone weighs quite a bit and then there is the tent, sleeping bags, mats, chairs, and all the firewood you all have there. That is a great setup you all have there and I would not be outside for long if there in a tent which looks that great.
@CamperChristina
@CamperChristina 5 жыл бұрын
Sidney Mathious hey there! Thanks so much for the comment. I’m not sure what you’re talking about regarding a mountain and two backpacks? This is a car camping trip just to test out the tent and not a backcountry trip. I would definitely not be bringing this much stuff into the backcountry. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed the video. Cheers! Here is a link to a trip that I did take the tent into the backcountry on. Hope you enjoy it. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rqxki61itdqvj40.html

The stove pipe that is silver in color if its galvanized it put off a poisonous gas if it gets to hot
@CamperChristina
@CamperChristina 5 жыл бұрын
Kevin Humphrey I can assure you none of my stove pipes let off any poisonous gases. The stove has been pre burned for five hours, very hot, to burn off the chemicals initially once it’s received and it gets painted at the end of every season and burned off again after painting. This helps prevent it from rusting. If you check out some of my other videos you will see the where I do this and explain these things. Thanks for watching. Cheers.

Yes it varies of course depending on the temperature outside, but I’ve tested it many times. It’s usually approx 10-15 degrees warmer from the floor to the cot. This is an extremely cold backcountry trip and I test it here also. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i5NjfrWDxNzKe30.html

You might consider a way to allow air into the tent a fresh air supply is as important as the chimney. In complete combustion due to low O2 leaves will produce more CO.

Did I miss why you don’t tarp entire floor?
@CamperChristina
@CamperChristina 6 жыл бұрын
Donnie Darko Putting a tarp on top of snow is extremely slippery and very dangerous to move around on top of. Therefore I leave the floor bare where I need to move around. It’s not really necessary. Most people put down rubber like mats that they use at the gym for extra insulation, But because this is a backcountry tent it’s too much extra weight and stuff to carry. Many hot tens do not have floors.
@brianprendota6283
@brianprendota6283 5 жыл бұрын
It is not necessary to tarp under a stove, the heat from the stove will melt the snow BUT you must tarp under where your sleeping. Why??? Get your sleeping bag wet while it's 10°f and try drying it out and even if you do, where are you sleeping. There is water on the floor. A little vapor pad don't cut it. Her setup is correct

I think that elbow on the end should have been at least sideways or slightly higher as to vent the smoke out of your tent when a slow burn is happening or you'll be smoked out
@ElementofKindness
@ElementofKindness 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't know how those guys do it in hammocks or just basic tarps strung up. I'd never come out of the sleeping bag, if that's all I had. Hot tent is as primitive as I wish to go.

Your fuel doesn’t need to be anywhere near the heat. It won’t freeze in any temps you would ever be exposed to.
@CamperChristina
@CamperChristina 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but that’s actually 100% not true. Fuel freezes all the time and I’ve had it happen on a few of my trips. I’m very sorry that you don’t appreciate the ads, but that is how I make a cent off of my video, so I apologize if that bothers you. I work extremely hard on this channel and it’s how I pay for a few of my trips. Have a great day!
@CamperChristina

Butane is the primary component in fuel canisters, typically accounting for 70 to 80 percent of the fuel mixture; propane makes up the remainder. ... In cold temperatures, this effect can drive the canister temperature down and stop the burner cold-even if the ambient temperature is above the fuel's boiling point.Oct. 28, 2014
@DanielSon69
@DanielSon69 3 жыл бұрын
I stand corrected, I didn’t realize that your fuel was primarily butane. Don’t think I’ve ever used butane before. My cold weather camping fuels are typically white gas and diesel fuel. I’ve even done away with my wood stove, I’ve gotten myself set up with a wicked little 5kw diesel heater that keeps my tipi warm and dry at hunt camp.
