Fair enough if you was some sort of contributor to Skepta's current successes then yeah "YOU" can take credit for grime branching out… BUT!! As a bystander of grime, we ain't don't nutin, this is what Skepta was saying… London is too small, the scene is too small, there's a specific way you've gotta be to fit in a certain category in UK grime and everyone knows everyone, we've gotta stop thinking this way because then that way there will only ever be the odd Dizzee Rascal & Skepta because Skepta ain't really repping grime on whole, he's repping himself, it's called branding… It's the same as Toronto bruddas saying "because of Drake we're now making a name for ourselves" when no, I don't know any other Toronto rappers apart from Drake… (I hope this made sense, goodbye)

The fact that Rosenberg and Hot 97 are featuring a 30+minute interview with one of the biggest artists out of the UK, Skepta, that many Americans have never heard about, speaks volumes. Everyone in the comments are going on about genre titles, labels, how Americans aren't up on UK stuff. This moment right here is HUGE. People need to shut the fuck up and be proud that someone from across the pond is getting their props in the US. Being big in the UK is a fresh thing. Making noise in the US opens the rest of the world up. I'm American and I remember when he did the posse joint "Duppy/Doin' It Again". He deserves his props across the world. Shoutout Hot 97 for exposing this artist.

Im the only person in my city(Houston) that listens to grime. A few people know about Dizzee and now people are starting to listen to Skepta, but most americans can't get past the UK accents. I hope grime doesn't get big in the US because I know they're gonna make it commercialized and ruin it

CalmYeWest Ygm, he also doesn't need to talk about tracks from years ago which are irrelevant.
@dellaforay86439 жыл бұрын
Assibey121 Not tryna be rude at all or anything and I get your point but, like the guy said his songs are telling a story. Isn't better to not just acknowledge one song alone but other songs he has made as well. Each of his songs are telling a story. The audience will get a greater representation of who Skepta is by hearing his story expressed in other songs, not just one. Not trying to put down Shutdown at all cause I love that song just don't think it should be the only song that labels Skepta worldwide. He has had many hits. Not even saying to talk about tracks from years ago. Like there's Back then which I think is a great song and that was released recently. But I guess if everyone gravitates more towards Shutdown then that's cool. As long as he's getting the recognition he deserves right.
@AJN7949 жыл бұрын
Yeah 100% agree with you but I think tbh That's not me is the song that labelled Skepta worldwide but because Shutdown is so big in the states I think he only feels it's relevant to bring that track up since Skepta did a shutdown tour. And yeah I suppose

on the whole i think rosenberg needed to show skepta more respect and could have done a bit more research about his history and his back catalogue. asking him if he's had any "sage advice from Dizzee" really blatantly rubbed him up the wrong way. If he'd taken the time to do some research he'd realise that Skep is just as much of an OG in grime as Dizzee is, he's stuck to his grime roots more consistently, and with the likes of Roll Deep, BBK, Lord of tha Mics and all his solo stuff he's undoubtedly one of the most important grime mcs to have came out of the scene at all.

US rap artists would get slumped by Skepta

IamJohno Cannot lie it would be nice to see some US rappers and Grime artists go head to head on XXL cyphers or even on the BET hip hop awards in a BET cypher. Or what do you think?

della foray i mean in like road terms but yeah that would be cool, I dont think US rappers could take skepta & Jme on anyway

Are you serious? You think NO US rapper, could take on Skepta and JME? Cole, Kendrick, KRIT, Jay Electronica and etc. could rap circles around Skepta bro, I'm just being honest. Don't get that Young Thug shit confused with the real Hip Hop shit fam.

Lyric wise Skepta kills them you just don't understand what he's saying.. Been listening since crazy Titch days, but you won't know who that is either.

I'm sorry but lyrically hip hop is in a different level compared to grime. Grime never started of as being lyrically good but it was more of how well you can spit you bars. Coming from someone who listens to grime and hip hop ( London as well).

As he said, SBTV, Link Up TV & GRM Daily are the main platforms for UK Hip-hop and Grime (yes there is a difference). Anyone who wants to see how big our scene is just needs to KZfaq those channels. Also P110 & JDZMedia for them up North niggas, it's not even just London, actually them man do more Grime than most LDN man right now.
