[Houdini Tutorial] 0020 Mandelbulb Formula (Slow ver.)

In this tutorial video I'm showing how you can create a 3d fractal called Mandelbulb using Houdini and volume. You can also 3d print the final output. The formula explained in the video is based on the one explained in the wikipedia page (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandelb....

Thank you for this tutorial, and all the others too. Only few people make tutorial for Houdini for fractal project and every time you release a video I thought " I have to thank him" so once again, thank you.

Hey Junichiro, i realy like this tutorial, but when i write to the scrpit "@density = 0;" i get a messege: ' Cannot find primitive attribute 'name', binding volume as 'density'. How can i solve this, or what have i missed? THX

Cheers for this Junichiro ! .. another great tut. This being a 3D fractal... this might seem a weird question, but do you think it would be possible to zoom into a portion of it... recompute a smaller worldspace volume at a similar high resolution... on the edge of the fractal... and get a new replica but different fractal surface? ... like a similar process to zooming into the 2D mandelbrot resulting in infinite recreation of a self similar pattern.

I think it's doable by multiplying the xyz coordinate by some multiplier. I haven't tried it though for instance if you multiply vector c and vector v by 0.1 then I assume you would get the zoomed in result.

Hello, I'm late to the party, but when I make this and I click on the render view after doing everything up to the convertvdb1 for the mandelbulb fractal, nothing shows up but a bunch of points in the shape of the fractal and not the actual mandelbulb.

Hey Junichiro thanks for your wonderful tutorial. I'm stock at the Volumewrangle part. I made the code exactly as you said but nothing happens after that. I also downloaded your file and it worked as it should but when even I copied your code it still did not work. how should I solve it ? I use Houdini 16.0.671

Hi thank you for your comment, I don't really know why the code is not working but you might want to try making the file using Houdini 16.5.323 which I used to create the file.

Check your null name, if you named it "controller", put in the first 2 lines with "Controller", not "CONTROLLER". I fixed it and it worked

I checked everything out ! It's funny that when I changed my houdini to indie version it started working :D I still can't understand what was the problem !
