House Build 38 - Backfilling Porches for our Legacy Block ICF House

We are backfilling between the house stem wall and porch stem wall in preparation for pouring the concrete porches for our Legacy Block ICF House. The first layer of backfill is the same non-expansive clay that we placed and compacted under the footings and house slab. We are compacting it under the porches to provide a good base to support the structure. After the clay we are placing and compacting gravel as the layer immediately under the porch slabs. This is the layer of material where the conduits for services run.

Thanks. We're trying to get it done to mitigate future problems. It's just SLOW... We're past waking up to 30s here. It's been lows in the 40s and highs in the low 80s for a week or so. The lows are about 10 to 15 degrees cooler than "normal".

Glad you're having a relaxing day. I'm sitting here putting off the inevitable but we are going to a cookout later. It is finally starting to come together. I'm just ready to be out of the dirt and working on what I actually intended to be doing on the house. Hopefully we'll be working on framing here in a couple of weeks.

@@ozarksethic we had a cookout today for our daughter's graduation. Thanks to the propane cooker under the porch we had burgers since the rain kept me from the charcoal grill. Y'all have fun.

Thanks! It looks bigger than it actually is. The block company, Legacy Block, is in Orlando so you can build your own down there! There are photos of projects in FL on their website and information on energy efficiency and damage resistance. Thanks for watching!
