House centipede eats what looks like a spider. These fuggers always scare the crap outta me when I see them running up a wall at 50 mph.

I used to hate these things because of how startling their appearances are (being when they appear, not how...but that too lol), but now I just leave them alone because they eat everything else. Same with spiders. Since they aid me in my annual war against the invading ants, I suppose I could consider them allies.

Oh, boy I can't wait for this spring when there'll be a billion of these friggin' things magically appearing on the walls all over my house. For whatever reason, these just make me spaz out. Harmless and beneficial never came in a scarier package.

It's kinda cute once you look past the bazillion legs thing.....I mean, it's all peaceful while casually munching on a spider. They fact it has two big eyes sorta adds to the appeal...kinda lol.

a tenant decided to raise chickens in their side of our duplex. This caused a massive infestation of roaches. Then those little buggers started showing up. Within 2 weeks the roach problem was gone! Didn't need to call a termanator or anything. The centipedes dealt with ALL roaches. I love house centipedes now :). They aren't very nice looking but they stay out of my way and kill every other annoying pest. I've never seen a spider web, roach, terminate or anything since. They rock :D.

Those little bastards used to terrorize me in my crappy college apartment. They are super fast, they get huge, and they seem to come out when you turn the lights out and already comfy in bed. I -love- these little monsters. They're so cool as they hover across the walls and ceilings. Yeah I've killed my fair share of them, but I'd rather have them than my fishing spiders and other bugs in the house. I don't see many now that I've started spraying for insects. It took about 2 years, but their numbers are waaaay down.

Well... As long as they never enter my room I won't beat them to death with my slipper. Its a wonder me and my family don't have an ant colony in our kitchen. I haven't seen any spiders lately either. The cockroaches disappeared. Its obvious the House Centipedes reproduced because the tiny versions of them sprint across the wall. I avoid showering at night. The largest I've seen scared the shit out of me. I went to my kitchen to make a midnight snack and when the light was flicked on it dashed toward me. Then I stifled a scream and hopped on top of one of the kitchen chairs. I crouched, peeked down and the poor thing was trying to hide under the chair I was on. xD

You go, little buddy! Man, house centipedes are so misunderstood. They should be our best friends. They eat all our least favorite household pests - spiders, silverfish, termites, bedbugs...the list goes on. They're also harmless to humans and they don't damage our homes and possessions, unlike the aforementioned pests. Before you take a shoe to that house centipede, think about the consequences of letting a worse critter run around instead. These guys are the best.

Silverfish are smooth and (surprise) silvery in appearance, about 10 mm in length, and have six legs and three tails. House centipedes are massive in comparison (up to 50 mm), reddish-brown with lighter stripes, and have up to 15 pairs of banded legs (30 legs). These insects are part of a chain and actually help to "clean" in different ways. If you didn't have house centipedes, you'd probably have a lot more spiders, carpet beetles, firebrats, and cockroaches.

it's crazy, cuz they move so fast that sometimes you don't even know for sure if you've seen one. and Ravens...they can be found anywhere. they're attracted to moist, dark places...not trash or anything, so like betty said, there's probably some in your basement...you just haven't seen 'em

i usually only see 'em when i'm blazin' up on my back porch...not the state of mind you wanna be in when you see some shit like that. and raptor...i DO realize that they don't pose any real threat--most bugs don't, but somehow that doesn't make 'em any less creepy.

Boy this is a popular one. :) People should wiki the house centipede before they make up stuff. Bites are very rare and happen typically when you roll over one in bed. You're just as likely to be bitten by a spider that way too. Fun fact: these guys originated in the Mediterranean area and have migrated to pretty much every continent and country, like the common rat. Remember, if these are prominent in your home, you have a worse insect problem to worry about.

Thanks for posting this charming video. As it plays, I believe I detect William Burroughs salivating in his grave. One issue needs clearing up: this is not, I repeat, NOT a silverfish. A silverfish is a much smaller, nonvenomous, scavenging insect. The house centipede is a carnivorous, venomous myriapod.
