@@timc46440 I mean, if the choice is up to me between a knights armaments platform and a DPMS, knights gets my money every time. I have never been impressed with DPMS's build quality, and don't see anything to differentiate the from other bottom of the barrel bargain AR manufacturers.

Please don't be offended by the presentation. Paul was reviewing ammunition made by that company in one rifle with very limited rounds to work with. I'm sure they are a great bunch of guys. Be well and happy shooting.

@@wesleygay8918 what dpms platform rifles have you used? I have never had a problem with PSA, or Aero platforms using 20 inch barrels. 1.25 " groups at 200 yards with no problems and zeroed for 150 yards.

I have seen plenty of Remington .308 at walmart lately

I still have some Rem green/yellow boxes of 308 Win labeled $4.95. It was at a ShopKo that was closing out the gun stuff. Must have been back in the 80's.

They have this brand new fangled invention called the Internet. It let's you shop for .308 and compare prices.

Cabellas has federal blue box SP for 41 CAD, just picked up 2 boxes and my savage axis deer rifle this evening. Full size rifles will be fun to shoot...

IF it's on the shelf, and that's a big if, Walmart (at least in MO) should have .308 for around $22-24/box. Academy Sports shouldn't be much worse. $32 is a little crazy(-er) for non-CA/NY/IL states IMO.

I've also noticed this drift in velocity. While not definitive, this does suggest that it's an area House of Payne needs to look at.

That's the point...honest review. That's why we watch Paul and not ninja operator Bob or whatever.

Jonny Lakewood, thanks for confirming that I wasnt seeing stuff!! Looks to me like either crap primers or the wrong powder if thats happening. OR, possibly some kind of residue left from case sizing lube. Either way, it adds up to bad ammo, and more carbon/powder fouling left in the weapon.

Penetration will also be affected by how large the surface area the force is being generated at, hence why a .270 Winchester will penetrate more than a .30-06 with similar momentum. It's also why a sharper knife cuts better and why those Xtreme Hunter/Defender rounds from Lehigh penetrate so well. But momentum definitely does play a role. That's why a heavier for grain 5.56 hollow point will penetrate to FBI standards while 55gr ones do not.

The rifle he is using belongs to me. It is a M1A Standard-Loaded bought new in 2003. 1:11 twist medium weight barrel.

Why not? Its one of the most popular sizes, even used as a NATO standard.

@@mytech6779 I have health issues that have ended my career. I just don't have the money to try to shoot with every caliber that I'd like to try. I try to be proficient with a few of every general type of firearm, but I can't touch them all.

The M1A/M14 gets crapped on because of it's military history. I'm not going to war with mine (I hope). I love the looks, love the feel and and has a great minute of deer accuracy.

I just brought an airsoft pistol to practice at home. Already had a pellet rifle. It's not a perfect option but it will help with ammo being what it is ATM.

I'm just thinking what a jury would say if you used it in a self defense situation. The Prosecution will have a field day with the name "House of Payne"🙄

@@tombrown4683 That is the issue today in many jurisdictions. Massad Ayoob has written and spoke about the optics of self defense shooting and defending yourself against a hostile, anti-gun prosecutor. Ironically, Massad's made-up example brand of bad ammo name - "RIP" - was actually produced by some company. The point being that in this day of anything-goes-to-win-a-case, your best choice of defensive ammo are the brands used by "your" local law enforcement. The prosecutor can't call you bloodthirsty without so naming his own police. At least that is the reasonable thinking. Not all these guys are reasonable as we witnessed during the infamous Rittenhouse trial. GOD's blessings.
