Blood and Cheese asked Daemon "what do we do if we can't find Aemond?", and Daemon just smiled before they revealed his answer. It's implied that he said if they couldnt get their primary target, then they take Aegons heir, so they get a "son for a son". They didn't screw up the orders, they just had to resort to Plan B.

Scorpions have existed since Aegon's Conquest. It's actually how Meraxes(and Rhaenys) died in Dorne. Rhaenys is one of Aegon's sister wives.

The Scorpions existed in Dorne, they were used to fight Aegon's dragons during his conquest and they demostrated a dragon could be killed. Its one of the reasons Dorne stayed unconquered.

What a lovely surprise! Hi Stefani, lovely to meet you Mesel. There are a lot of comments about 'in the book' and what everyone missed mentioning is that the book Fire & Blood is written to be a combination of source documents from others - in MOST cases, there aren't only multiple sources, but sources that contradict each other. We the readers and they the GoT batch of characters, only know for sure what the provable events are. In this episode, all we know for certain is that after Luke was killed over The Gullet by Aemond and Vhagar, two people, a guard and a ratcatcher (only ever remembered in history by the names Blood and Cheese) infiltrated the Red Keep and killed Prince Jaehaerys. Everything else is speculation. GRRM is VERY much a part of the show writing process - as every alteration of the lore must go through him. He's said in multiple interviews that the reason there's no definitive series of events in Fire & Blood is that HE doesn't really know how an event came to pass, only that 'something' triggered an action that led to a moment he needed in history. There's loads more to unpack in the episode - and I'm sure when you edited, you spotted some of them. The couple of glimpses of Cheese in the background earlier in the episode - pointing out how freely he could move around the castle. The fact that Aegon has no trouble at all with the Iron Throne cutting him, even being comfortable enough to sprawl drunkenly on it. Alicent's strangely repetitive scrubbing in the bath, is she just anxious, or does she feel unable to get clean? Aegon attempting to do a better job of teaching his son something of ruling. Rhaenys being unafraid of defying Daemon, but Mysaria flinching when he even approaches. Emma D'Arcy rocked my world in this episode, just four words and yet she conveyed a torrent of emotion. She brought me to tears twice. Here's to the rest of the season being as well done!

If you rewatch season 1, you'll see many rats in the red keep. But you don't see any in GoT. You see cats like the ones Arya was chasing and Ser Ponce.

Two things can be true. Rhaenyra wants revenge but taking out Aemond removes Vhagar from the Green cause.

The rat-catcher (Cheese) did ask daemon "What if they can't find Aemond"

Helaena was mumbling about dragons of thread at Laena's funeral. Perhaps she saw the new opening. Also Viserys mentioned tapestries when Daemon returned from the Stepstones.

Buenas Noches Guapa Pareja, The King in the North did not kneel because his town feared being burned, nor was Aegon interested in killing Northerners, so Aegon told him the prophecy, which is what Cregan and Jacaeris imply with their words

I always thought of it as Qyburn knew they existed from his time at The Citadel and went looking beneath The Red Keep for them. Then made more. Vhagar is a female dragon by the way. Lady Arryn wasn’t asking for a dragon to keep for the Vale, she was asking for someone with their dragon to come keep the Vale safe from dragon attacks. During Aegon’s conquest one of Aegon’s sister wives flew to The Vale and landed in the Eryie bringing the Vale into the fold without bloodshed. To avoid the Vale being undefended they want a dragon to protect it, not to keep cause the Targaryens wouldn’t accept that

Did you guys notice.. This was another incident where one of Alicent’s blood was killed on Ser Cristen’s watch

I would send some of the Velarion girls and her smaller dragon to the Vale, just to keep her out of the war. And I also would send the construction plans for scorpions with her, for the case bigger dragons should show up there.

Btw... Vhagar is the oldest dragon so she's been in battle before. That's why she's got holes in her wings, poor baby ☺️

Another mistake from the end of GoT. Dany's dragons shouldn't have been able to cross the Wall.

In the books Blood&Cheese is much different. First off, Aemond is never mentioned to be the target, and Rhaenyra is not the one to incite the mission. Daemon sends Rhaenyra a letter from Harrenhal (in the books he is already there) that says- “An eye for an eye, a son for a son. Lucerys will be avenged”. B&C sneak into the Tower of the Hand, which is not guarded as heavily as Maegor’s Holdfast-where Aemond was-and they head for Alicent’s chambers, who was getting ready for bed (Criston and her are not a thing in the book). Helaena and her three children (Jaehaerys, Jaehaera, and Maelor, who was not present in the show version) were on the way for their nightly visit to Alicent. When they get there, they find Alicent tied to the bed and her bedmaid strangled. Blood bars the door and Cheese takes Maelor and tells Helaena to choose which son of hers will die. Helaena pleads that they kill her instead but they refuse, siting- “An eye for an eye, a son for a son. A wife is not a son.” Cheese tells her that if she does not choose then Blood will grape her daughter and they will kill everyone in the room. Eventually, Helaena chooses Maelor, her younger son. Maybe it was because she thought he would be too young to understand , or perhaps it was because the elder boy, Jaehaerys, was Aegon’s first born and heir. Cheese holds Maelor up and whispers to him- “You hear that, little one, your momma wants you dead”. Then, in one clean motion, Blood strikes of the older boys-Jaehaerys’s-head, and the two take off with it. When the guards finally burst through the door, they find Helaena grasping her son’s headless body to her, mad with grief. So yeah, Blood&Cheese is much more tame in the show.

That was really fun guys. Have either of you read "Fire and Blood?" They were supposed to kill Aemond, but he's a man. It was different in the books. In the books they went to the Tower of the Hand where Allicent moved after Vyseres died. Helena took the kids to visit her mother every night. Blood and Cheese broke into Allicent's rooms, killed her maid and waited for Helena. When she came in they made her choose between Jaheares and Maelor her younger son. She chose Maelor so they killed Jaeheres. The Episode is called A Son for a Son.

What surprised me most about this episode, was that although I desise Larys and Otto, Aemond as king wasn't as bad as I thought he'd be. (at this point in the show).

Blood and Cheese is way more traumatic in the book, they forced Halaena to choose between two sons and then kill the one she wanted to save---While they were awake.

Part of me hoped you'd wait for the others to catch up - but that's completely unreasonable! Hope you enjoy the show again, its been a wild ride already.

Oh this is a surprise . I was scrolling after watching you on you GOT reaction and came across this reaction which is a pleasant surprise.

YEEEEEY and good to see the face of the man (till now we had just seen his arm xD) I assume you have watched season 1 of HoTD right?

Aemond is indeed a good strategic target. If he is dead, you could reclaim his big dragon, which will weaken the greens significantly. The son for a son plan B makes no real sense, has no strategic value and creates more rage. If someone should be punished, it is Aemond, who killed Luceris. If you can´t find him instantly, find out where he will be tomorrow and try it another day.

I don't blame you for not wanting to wait! I watched the first episode as soon as it came out!

So many reactors weren't paying attention when they asked Daemon what to do if they couldn't find Aemond. Regardless of what the writers intended, there is an implication that there's a plan b.

I wonder if Cole was supposed to be guarding Helaena instead of getting busy with Alicent. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Luke's body was never found. One account from the book claims he suffered amnesia and lived as a fisherman.

Okay first off Daemon wanted to take out the guy who killed his step son first 10 mins of this show then his wife comes back then tells everyone I want him basically bring me his fracking head so Daemon goes to Kings Landing which is risky and dangerous for him to just do what he wife and queen asked of him he hires Blood and Cheese to kill the target bring me his head he tells the guys I want a son for a son they even asked ya what if we can't find him they caught away from that leaving you guess but being Daemon odds are he told them get me his head you get paid I want a son for a son so they go into the red Keep and can't find there target want to get paid and being idiots think hey we bring him the head of the King son the next heir to the throne he will pay us its even better. Sadly I think the Blacks will not be happy with Blood and Cheese the book writes that Daemon ordered this yet we seen he didn't do that yet its okay Son for a Son its war and the Greens deserve what ever happens to them period. When I think of the usurpers in GOT and House of Dragons how many kids died um lets just say Robert and Ned gang killed Dani whole blood line including Ella and her little kids so lets not forget usurpers are pure evil as hell and in war usurpers if they lose there whole blood line could be wiped out something to consider if you ever decide to over throw a government ! Larys also mentioned he'd replaced much of the household staff, so another idea is he has less guards around for his own ends. I'd also say the whole point is we don't know what Daemon said, just like we don't know for sure if he had actually said the 'heir for a day' thing in episode 1. But yeah, as other people pointed out, it's amusing the split between book and non-book readers - Non-Book Readers: OMG WTH THIS IS HORRIBLE ; Book Readers: Meh - was much worse in hte actual book.

In the books, it's even worse. Helaena is forced to choose which of her children she wants to have killed. She chooses the 2nd born, and Blood and Cheese simply kill the opposite after telling the younger one that her mom wanted her dead. Also, in the books, Alicent was there to witness it happen! Craziness.
