Really? I liked her character from the start, but now she's turned petty and mad at Rhaenyra, because she doesn't feel able to be as free as Rhaenyra is (just pure jealousy, because Rhaenyra is free to f^ck whoever she wants, on the side)...seems like a shitty and ridiculous thing to be mad at your former best friend for, and she should instead be happy for Rhaenyra. That said, i feel bad for Alicent, because she's been utterly controlled by the patriarchy (i still like her, but she's being stupid).

I like how they gave Ser Criston a legitimate reason to do what he is going to do in future episodes. The books didn't quite explain it so I'm glad the show did. What I didn't like was making Criston kill Joffrey during the wedding festivities in front of everyone when he actually killed him in the tourney while they were competing against each other according to the books. Granted that Criston probably did it out of spite, he still had a good excuse for killing Joffrey since they were in a tournament. But going full-on psycho in front of everyone in the most lavish wedding of their time, that would've been unforgivable. That was just something the showrunners did for the shock value and to compete with the Red Wedding. I don't know how Criston could get out of this mess even with the help of Alicent. I guess we shall see in the following episode.
@AllTheArtsy
@AllTheArtsy Жыл бұрын
Exactly. At least in a tourney, you have the plausible deniability that it's an inherently violent event where accidents can happen. The fact that Criston just killed a highborn nobleman who is a close friend to the heir of one of the most powerful lords of the realm... and he just gets to walk away and remain a kingsguard???? That makes no sense

@@AllTheArtsy Whatever excuse they'll come up with is not going to make any sense. If they wanted that bloody scene in the wedding, they should've changed Joffrey's attacker to some other knight. 2:40 I think Otto is rationalising there. He is taking it for-granted that Lords will rebel against Rhanaeyra, and instead of trying to find a way to talk them down or strengthen Rhanaeyra's claim he is undermining it. None of this and what’s gonna happen would happen if Viserys just picked his guilt over his obsession with having a boy. Said “Hey, because of me, I got my wife killed in a gruesome way that is haunting me, so I’ve decided not to remarry nor try for any more heirs. Rhaenyra will be my heir to show that any oldest child, regardless of gender, can inherit and save more women like Aemma from a needless death. That's just unrealistic. Otto hightower is so convinced that there will be a war if a women takes the throne, and he certainly doesn't want Deamon in power. More like the other way around. If Viserys chose to do what is right for the realm rather than trying to make his teenage daughter happy, he would have never given her false hope and Aegon would have been heir by default. All out war would have been averted this way. Viserys seems to consistently make the wrong choice because he doesn't think like a king. That's why he married the girl who was nice to him rather than the politically advantageous choice, which led to him alienating his kingdom's most powerful house for several years. A lot of people seem to think he's noble and honorable like Ned Stark, but he is actually very selfish.

@@jking4973 yeah she looks waaay younger. And her voice is higher than what an adult Rhaenyra should sound like. I will miss Milly and her chemistry with the rest of the cast, but no old age makeup is gonna convince me she's more than 22 lmao

Here's what I think happened between Rhaenyra's love interest and the other guy: he came to him and was like "I care very much for the prince, you care very much for the princess, let's swear an oath to protect them" and Sir Love Interest took that a little too literally, and acted rashly. He managed to half-convince himself that if both he and the other guy were dead, the secret would die with them, and Rhaenyra would be protected (as well as the young prince, but that's beside the point). But right as he's about to kill himself, he sees Queen Alicant (sp?) and it kind of snaps him back to the reality of the situation, which is that she knows as well.

All in all great episode, but few things felt like they happened just for the sake of plot. Minor spoilers : Rhea's death - how is it that literal heir of Runestone didn't have any bodyguard? Aren't house Royce like one of the most prominent houses? Also, how was ser "Crispin" able to just peace out after punching future king consort at his own goddamn wedding? Shouldn't kingsguard immediately apprehend him? I'm feeling that a bit of writing is being sacrificed for a bit more action. Hope it isn't a precedence of something much bigger

I personally felt like this episode was quite rushed. In stark contrast to the previous 4 where they generally did an excellent job of establishing the multitudes of characters and the whole political powderkeg in King's Landing. But brother, this episode was PACKED. It may fly over the head of book readers who don't yet know just how many things they tried to quickly establish in some 15 minutes that were allocated for the wedding, but it was far too many, that's for sure. In my opinion, the show would have benefited from having one episode devoted to the preparations for the wedding, setting up all the pieces (basically the first 40 or so minutes of this episode + extras) and then have a full episode devoted to the wedding, letting all characters interact properly and not rushing... certain developments. For instance, Ser Criston's killing of Joffrey was, I felt, sloppy TV. He does kill Joffrey in the books as well, but does so covertly, during a tournament, and it is convincingly framed as a possible mishap. As opposed to the EXTREMELY overt murder by way of caving someone's face in during a ball. Like, hello, how is he walking free after that, exactly? Man's killed one minor noble and struck the future king-consort, but nobody's even so much as asking him questions? I felt like this was the first time this so far excellent show had its certified "GoT S6-8" moment. Scene done not in a way that makes sense, but in a nonsensical manner for little less than shock value.
