When Viserys cuts himself in the Iron Throne it looks like the a Stark direwolf sigil cut in half on the sword under his hand. Perhaps an Easter egg for Jon Snow or Arya being the one to kill to Night King on the show.

Viserys is the most endearing, relatable character. In a world with great “cool” characters who win great battles or concoct elaborate plans, Viserys (even though he’s a king) is like most of us, just trying to make it work, keep the ship afloat. He’s not a “weak-willed” caricature like I thought he’d be, and can show strength when he needs to, like when he banished Daemon in episode 1 or canned Otto. This latest episode when he talks about winning no great victories or suffering any great defeats, how will he be remembered? The guy is trying to do what he believes is right. An empathetic, multifaceted, realistic character.

I was so hesitant going into this show, especially after GoT, but I am loving it, Matt Smith is rocking it as Daemon. I will miss Milly Alcock as Rhaenyra but know Emma D’Arcy will be great. So excited about what’s to come.

@@yusufbey1587 Nah, she doesn't have a defined chin and can barely make facial expressions. Makes no sense for a character of her age. She has less facial expression than Galladrial of Rings of Power, and her character isn't even written that way. Hoping the new actress steps up and does a better portrayal. Milly is the only one in the show I feel isn't doing their part.

Milly is the gem surprise of this series. Matt and Rhys is ofc very good but that was expected. Alicent's actress is probably just as unlucky with the character as was Sansa's.. it is hard to act well a dull boring stupid character.

@Rohan Chatterjee Paddie has done such a great job while portraying Viserys, the whole dilemma thing, he makes it so real. I just hope the essence of characters will be maintained throughout the show. I personally have liked Matt Smith from a very long time and it is a delight to watch him playing daemon. That's why I say, Matt Smith is not regular classy, he is the whole damn class. ❤

The shot of Viserys condition is heartbreaking. He is a great character and as harsh as it sounds Daemon was right about Viserys being weak in the sense that he's being manipulated by just about everyone and its obviously killing him. Otto Hightower is definitely the force behind the King's demise. Vhagar is Magnificently huge! Cant wait to see her in action 😃👍

The King obviously has some condition unknown at that time. I think he's got diabetes and consequently has a weak immune system and bad circulation. So he's got theese bad bacterial infections every time he has a scratch.

I love how they actually designed some of the dragons to look like the artwork from various commissioned art from Asoiaf, Vhagar looks like a few of her artwork, Meleys looks almost identical to hers. Its so cool! I fricking love the newer dragon designs! Meleys is easily my favorite now (though Caraxes is still winning me over lol)

Paddy’s dialogue (pondering the kind of king Viserys will be remembered as) truely transported me out of the hotd/got world. Excellent acting and writing. I truely love the concept of this show telling the truth of the story that everyone has read from two different perspectives. I think so far Viserys is a good king who would have otherwise thrived in a slightly more progressive 2022 😅

I listened to that interview with the actor who plays Viserys and he compared his illness with leprosy. He didn’t say it was actually leprosy it was just the best comparison he could make to what was happening to Visery. But since then I have heard everyone saying he has leprosy. Details matter. That wasn’t what the actor said.

@@tuber7081 They do to the point that leprosy is a fairly contagious disease. And he and Alicent have more children to come. I’m pretty sure that I have heard George RR Martin also compare grayscale to leprosy in a previous interview. In this fantasy world you don’t want to say something is actually a real world disease and then have it act in the manner that is inconsistent with how it does in the real world. I think these interviews are examples of people wanting to make the best comparison they can to something that is a real disease. But I think it that in order to understand what to expect from the malady in the story it is good to make the distinction that it is not actually the same thing.

I felt like Otto and Alicent's conversation showed him to be more complex. Almost as though his motivation behind pushing Aegon to be named heir was survival and not just greed. Rys Ifans is just great in this role.

The part with the fire might be from Harrenhal. In the book, Lord Lyonel Strong and Harwin 'Breakbones' Strong died in a fire believed to have been caused by Lord Larys 'Clubfoot' Strong who consequently inherited his father's land and titles.

I feel like something huge has to happen to make rhaenyra and allivent full fledgedcenemies and allicent to fully support aegon. Some slight that has allicent fearing rhaenyra and needing her 'mercy'. I wonder if allicent who does everything shes meant to resentd rhaenyra who rebels always, and i wonder if rhaenyras brown haired sons is the final straw for allicent. I can imagine this allicent being furious that rhaenyras passing bastards off as legitimate princes and heirs and there being no consequences for it.

I don’t know why the masses are so hesitant to watch the show because of GOT season 8!?! It’s a completely different set of show runners, the book is finished, Georgey is literally in the writers room, and HBO is still the best at this platform of TV shows.

This may sound cheesy, but I suspect many people don't want to get their hopes up. I say this because I was one of them. Hated S8 -- left a void in my heart. I gave this a shot and now I'm really glad I did.

@@georgeleinberger8670 I think way more people are upset about how the white walkers and Night King turned out. Most of us who read the GoT books pretty much know that Danearys will go bad and probably die. It's choreographed all over the books so that didn't surprise anyone, the show just did it poorly.

@@georgeleinberger8670 You forgot every other reason S8 was truly hated: Tyrion becomes dumb, Jamie's character arc is assassinated, dany becomes a mass murderer, the prince that was promised meant NOTHING!(LMAO the night king got killed by a little girl LUL), bran becomes king instead of John the rightful heir. Just a complete sloppy lazy mess of a season.

I think I was excited from the start because this was George’s passion project he pitched immediately and was agreed upon that he would be heavily involved, which I know DD shoved him out towards later seasons. But since the book is already out and most of us know the outcome, it’s really the journey to the outcome that really excites me.

Sorry... whether it is the official line from the show runners or not... leprosy (Hansen's disease) is a poor choice for the explanation of what is wrong with the King. 1) the lesions with draining pus don't really look like leprosy lesions and 2) while it is true you do not get leprosy easily through casual contact... you are at much greater risk when you are in prolonged contact with the infected person. So I would think Allisent would eventually become infected especially when cleaning his sores. I'm fairly certain much of George's inspiration for the King comes from King Henry VIII. Once a handsome, golden boy, and praised for his intelligence and good humor.... Henry begins getting sores all over including a giant stinking wound on his leg that is horribly painful. He also has a terrible time getting his wives pregnant and having a male heir. He gains a tremendous amount of weight to the point they have to create a mechanism to move him .around. He becomes erratic, moody, paranoid, and violent. It is believed that he may have had Type 2 diabetes. With this type of diabetes if it goes untreated (which would have been the case then) infections can run rampant in the body. Parts of the body are often amputated due to their severe infections. If the Maesters (and Otto) are aware of diabetes (probably with a different name)... It would be easy enough to naturally poison him by just increasing his sugar intake in his food.

Viserys is sick because he's probably got diabetes and bad circulation. So he ends up having life threatening sores after minor cuts due to bacterial infections. Some people say he might have leprosy but since the people around him aren't affected then he doesn't have leprosy. His symptoms are indicative of Type II diabetes.

GOT is set at a much later time ( reference was made in the first episode - 172 years before the birth of Daenaerys Targaryen ), so is not a prerequisite to watch before House of the Dragon, but if you're enjoying this series, then you will love GOT.

I'm loving the show but I'm not sure I'm really digging the amount of time jumps, as well as the amount of time that's passed between each jump. Sort of makes each jump feel a little empty and disconnected to me. A bit too much a "fill in the blank" kind of feeling. I suppose once the older actresses come along, there won't be as many time jumps, certainly not major ones (I could be wrong, haven't read the book) but that's probably my only "big" complaint of the show so far.

Older Aegon the Second looks like the poster child for all House Targaryen, ever. I can see how this would add to Rhaenyra’s problems in getting others to stay loyal to her when this kid looks like Aegon the First Reborn. And how it would help Alicent in convincing people to come to his side, swaying Aegon the Second's banner, even though they had once pledged to Rhaenyra. I can also see how it would add to the Targaryens themselves choosing sides within the family.
