This episode really clapped alicent’s character for me. She has been one of the main ppl pushing viserys on that milk of the poppy last episode for years so she should know your head can’t be clear on it but she just runs with whatever viserys mumbles to her while high and wholeheartedly believes it just makes her look stupid. Then it turns out the way she has been paying this cripple all these years for info is by letting him beat his meat to her feet? I was blown away by the details in the coronation. It felt like watching Nicholas II being crowned in an Orthodox ceremony with all the hollow pomp & circumstance of a rotting system. It's what I'd always envisioned from a GoT coronation. Tom Glynn-Carney was terrific in bringing out Aegon's fear, hesitation, pride & euphoria all at once. I'm glad they kept much despised Criston putting the Conqueror's crown on Aegon II's head. The Kingmaker is born! What the show is doing well is the details, down to locking up servants. Usually the passionate debates, the sense of treachery, the heartbreak are glossed over & we only see the regime change as a "fait accompli". This brings to life the mechanism that historically goes behind a coup, which I assume is as emotionally taxing for the people seizing power. That's why I like agonized & conflicted Alicent more than her steadfast source counterpart. It's more flesh & blood. The coup didn’t happen because of the prophecy. The prophecy is simply a gossamer’s thread slipping away into oblivion (and the knife will be lost too by the end of the series I’m pretty sure). But the prophecy did not change 20 years worth of motivations. It seemed that only Alicent grasped for straws in Viserys’ last words to find a moral justification for what she was always going to do. It’s understandable for someone who was in such a psychological pressure for so long. But her motivation was always a prophetic fear of her son’s safety. For others the prophecy was simply a pretext. Otto was always set on having his blood on the throne. Many if not most of the Lords were always set on having a male heir. The prophesy didn’t serve as a catalyst for the coup. The coup was always fated. The prophecy served as a self-deluding moral impetus for Alicent and a pretext for others. . It very much fits the Fire & Blood Alicent trying to hide behind her self-righteousness. Blacks fans seem incapable of ascribing more than one intent on characters.

When Otto was moving the chess pieces, Beesbury yelling, Caswell hanging..I was on the edge of my seat. I knew how good it was when it had reactors already coping for compeuppance lol. Tom Glynn-Carney showed excellent range as Aegon. But it got overshadowed by 3 mins of a Rhaenys "happy ending" smdh lol. This crowning ceremony was a visual historygasm, finally befitting a king in got verse. The actors for Otto, Alicent, Aegon did a great job. And that "window in the wall of your prison" line is one of the best lines we've heard.

Choosing a man with combat experience to defend her father, when Otto was saying otherwise, proposing a solution to help Lord Corlys in the stepstones when not even the king had one, stoping blodsheed with Daemon, the only thing people point out of her is her lost virginity before marrige, when we see the parallel, Daemon, Viserys, Aegon and Aemond all lost it and did more than once, so the problem is only out of being a woman. And because later she has sons from Harwin, when everybody knows Leanor is gay, is not like shes sneeking behing her back without previous trying to perfom their duties or even discussing that with him first. Yet people know Aegon cheats on his wife with no reason for it, has tons of bastards he doesn’t even care for, never showed interest or capacity to rule and is a RAPIST. This is just a showcase to reality, if somebody prefers a person with no capacity to rule and a rapist , it will reflect how they do life in real life situations. These are the same people who will have different standards for woman and man, and even further more regarding other injustices. People enjoying characters sure but people supporting greens claim, aka aegon it’s just their sexist values showing and probably there’s other messed up ones there.

Alicent Hightower, who totally didn’t have any moral pangs of conscience in episode 6 and 7 and who plotted so coldly and successfully about Harrenhal (lol) and in the immediate aftermath of her son’s eye getting taken where Rhaenyra somehow came out looking good and oh Vaemond too, Rhaenyra again comes out on top by manipulating daddy dearest. This is exactly what Alicent hightower has always been portrayed. Just say you have issues with her being even a little bit humanised instead of being shown as a cartoon villain in opposition to the cartoon Disney princess that Rhaenyra has been shown as. But it’s ok to whitwash all of Daemon and Rhaenyra’s crimes.

Rhaenys hasn't read Fire & Blood to know of horrors to come. So her pre-emptively nuking half her own family would've been OP. Having said that, Rhaenys bit was to give audience a 'send home happy' moment which wasn't necessary. The coronation was fantastic in itself. But gawd forbid the 'bad guys' are on top in one episode. Those who thought lowborns of KL have any obligation to support Rhaenyra are in for big disappointments. Aegon claims his birthright from popular King Jaehaerys' Great Council stating king's firstborn male son is next king. Viserys himself won it like that over Rhaenys. Best part of this was the politics, less dragons the better. Despairing mom version of alicent does highlight her humanity more than the colder iteration of the actual green council. A well needed adjustment imo but also a continuation of her Harrenhall or knife scene mistake. They've constantly shown subtleties in her character which the audience wilfully ignores since we're watching this as a team sport and gotta cheer team lovable manipulative dad. Her being more humanized shouldn't be an issue unless one wants the show to remain grotesquely tilted towards Black (like not killing Laenor).

The episode was great in what it was posed to do, give our new monarch time to shine...who gave a top tier performance with his mood swings, establishing Aegon as far less one dimensional than Joffrey. Finally a proper GoT crowning. Rhaenys isn't aware of the book. She can't imagine the length of depravity & slow escalation both sides will go to, to kill her own kin at this point. That's Freefolk brain gigachad logic. *Ned kills Jaime in throne room & there's no War of Five Kings. Cat should've poisoned Cersei at Winterfell.* Tbf a fully Green ep without Rhaenys “good guy triumphal” pandering woulda been better. A Green heavy political intrigue focused ep, with lots of great visuals & ethical quandary. Gonna be a Microwave Attention Span Challenge for the “only here for Daemon making great value Patrick Bateman faces" crowd. I prefer moral dilemma Alicent over ruthless ambitious F&B council Alicent. The nuance of her has been lost on a viewership wanting her to fit the mold of a Disney evil queen. So this is a nudge in the right direction, that things are more grey from here. Her intro as an adult was her falling into Larys trap in harrenhal. So it's not a character change. Aegon & Alicent have been more compelling than the gas light goodie two shoes way Rhaenyra's been portrayed so far. I think it's a great thing knowing it keeps the worst sections of this fandom awake at night that Olivia is beautiful and Alicent was shown as a sympathetic layered character. I know they wanted Alicent to be an evil disney fairytale stepmom caricature so bad and are seething that they didn’t get that. The concern trolling about agency is laughable, there's more to female characters than just finger snapping wine sipping conniving "bad bish" archetypes like Cersei and Maergery and regardless, Targ stans need to worry about why Rhaenyra lost all her murderous agency when it came to Laenor and such. F&B is a gawdaful, rushed, half baked "book of general outlines" as George himself has said where every character does cartoonishly evil things and have zero character development. It was Linda and her husband's cash grab while George was too busy wasting his life over Wild Cards. We don't even know for sure what Alicent's hair color is in F&B. Whatever the show did, it's miles better than that garbage book.

I'm Team Green for one reason and one reason only: Aemond is cooler and more of a badass than any other character in this entire story. Daemon is right there too, both have that excellent chaotic energy. But they're easily my two favorite characters in the entire show. I don't like Rhaenyra, Aegon, Otto, Alicent, I do love Corlys and Rhaenys though, they're very cool. I think Cole is the absolute worst person in the entire show. But Aemond is a fucking badass, I love him. Can't wait for next episode.

Alicent ,this is the reason why in this first season all Kristian didn't receive any punishment was because of Alicent and third she tried to gouge out a child's eye ,Rhaenyra the only thing she did was have another man's children it's not her fault and she herself said she's Laenor she tried but it didn't work and rhaenyra also had feelings for just Harwin she didn't do anything much different from Alicent who went against the king and tried to gouge out a child's eye and cut Rhaenyra then she comes with friendship business my god for me this is not friendship friend does not hurt another They changed so much junk in this episode just to make it exciting. It would have been boring otherwise. Just making up stuff.

Alicent was simply grasping on to viserys' words as a moral justification for the coup. her pretext was already there for 20 years. to protect her son from a tudor-esque world of politics. and to not have the strong boys usurp her son's rightful claim. those two are important enough reasons. viserys' word wasn't the catalyst it was simply a conscience clearing exercise as you would expect from someone who has been under so much psychological pressure for so long. that wasn't gonna change. she was outtalked by larys or rhaenys because she has a semblance of scruples which serves as her detriment. we saw the same thing happened in episode 6 so this is nothing different. Alicent in book and in show is a far more nuanced character than Rhaenyra. And show Rhaenyra has especially been portrayed so far as a Disney princess which is just cringe.

I've really enjoyed this show so far, but this episode suuuucked. Sorry, I had to vent.
