This scene just reeks of Machiavellianism. "It is better to be feared than to be loved, if one cannot be both.” If Daemon had his aggression under check while Viserys was more proactive in his role as king... House Targaryen would've been unstoppable.

After two seasons and several years of "I dun want it" and "Yew well alwuhs bee mah queen", I cannot possibly describe how CATHARTIC it was to watch this scene.

As an extra fact: The guard at minute 0:20 is played by Nikolaj Coster Waldau, who was Jaime Lannister in GOT, here we see him make a small cameo.

The Goldcloaks amour designer should get a raise! Not only is there much more plate armour = wealthier state of kingdom The shoulder cape is also far more aesthetic, and contrasts amazingly with the black armour

When you think about it, the murderer had it easiest. A quick death. Most of them would die of bloodloss. Especially the guy that got his balls cut off.

It's hard to imagine how far the Gold Cloaks would fall by the time of Robert and Joffrey Baratheon, going from what was probably the most skilled and dangerous unit in the Seven Kingdoms to a savage version of the Keystone Cops

The soundtrack with Daemon’s speech is magnificent.

It's interesting to think about how the gold cloaks went from a brutal and effective leader to Slynt, Daemon was a dragon the kind of man with a vision for how law should be conducted. But when 200 years go by there's bound to be decay, Slynt was a coward who was willing to swap to whatever side he thought was winning worming his way into the service of those in power. Even after being banished to the night's watch. He was flexible, a man who was a product of the backstabbing times, Daemon was uncompromising.

I had like tons of doubts about Matt before but he appears and show is killed in his dragon flame

It was an interesting touch of detail that the guy who got his balls cut off farted because he was so scared

Some commentators here are saying how Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) sounds like Ramsay Snow / Bolton (Iwan Rheon) from 0:30 to 0:36. That could just be a coincidence. But, is it possible Matt Smith studied Iwan Rheon's performance so he could play the part of a tamed yet hungry predator waiting to the unleashed?

If I recall correctly, Ser Bron of Black Water did almost the same thing. Only it was not shown in the screen.

Otto Hightower really wasn't thinking straight when he persuaded the king to send Daemon to take control of the City Watch. I mean, that's the largest army in the capital; two thousand soldiers armored like knights, led by a man with battle experience. If he wanted to, Daemon could easily poison his brother, blame Otto for it, have Otto executed, force the council to bend to his will, and lock down the capital as he declares himself king. And no lord in the realm would be able to stop him. Viserys ought to be thanking God that his brother was far more loyal than what Otto would have him believe. I mean, think about it in the context of any other empire. The last thing you'd do to a member of the royal family whom you suspect of being unstable is to give him control over the army that supervises the capital city. That's a recipe for a coup if I ever saw one.

This is lowkey hilarious I love how Daemon's lips are wet with saliva and he speaks both like an elegant prince/Elf and a total nutcase and 0:35 how people wolf after him. Yeah some peak dark comedy there.

When I first watched this I didn’t tell realize that the reason why Daemon was doing this was because those people were criminals but now that I understand the reason behind Daemon’s actions my view of him has completely changed.
