Yes!! They were so busy talking they didn't really react to the trailer at all. The trailer also clearly conveys a lot of important scenes that give the story narrative yet they seemed to be so biased against it already that they could not care to pay attention. The showrunners of both Wheel of Time and Rings of Power were said to be knowledgeable fans of the series. Brandon Sanderson was even involved in WoTShow and supported the showrunner. But we all know how those shows turned out...

It depends on the language, in some languages you will need a masculine sounding suffix too. Something like Serafina and Serafino with Serafin being the neutral one. Shad would be neutral if you go with Shadina as the feminine, with Shadino being the masculine version (sounds Italian). Suffixes like 'ette' and 'enne' can also be used, so Shadette is another possibility.

In German, Shad is short for Schadenfreude. ;)

Completely disagree that the "entire plot" hinges on Corlys' mother being a dragonrider/ having dragonrider genes, simply because his mother is literally NEVER mentioned in the book, we don't even know her name. You'd think that if that were the case his mother might've at least been mentioned in passing right? Also what do you mean when you say Corlys and Rhaenys were discriminated against for being Valyrion because I genuinely have no idea what you're talking about

@@camthetrashman2386 He means by the maesters, that they were conspiring with the faith and house Hightower to have part Hightower (a house with very close ties to both the citadel and faith of the seven) Targaryens on the throne who they could control and eventually breed out the dragon-riding genes from house Targaryen, instead of Corlys and Rhaenys inheriting the throne, whose children actually had the purest Valyrian lineage of anyone living.

Yeah, this actually bothered me as well. I really like these guys and House Of The Dragon is going to be awful. But everything Oz said about Martin writing the scripts up to a certain point, and that being the reason for the drop in quality. Was just completely wrong. Plus as you already pointed, out this came across as none of them knowing anything about Ice and Fire or GRRM.

Hopefully they will see some of these comments and at least read through the Wiki of Ice and Fire page about the Dance of Dragons before reviewing the show.

The later series of GoT, I don't think is truly fair to call a 'drop in quality', but probably more accurate to call 'divergence from novel events' (due to lack of input from GRRM, and deliberate revision/streamlining of the novel's many spaghetti side-plots, and blending a few novel characters into one character in the series (as well as some who never even made it onscreen, such as Strong Belwas...) I really enjoyed Fire and Blood, so personally, I'm looking forwards to seeing how some of the characters will be interpreted, what events will or won't be included, if any changes/concessions may need be made for the sake of filming (such how in GoT, Missandei's age was almost doubled, compared to how she was written as the ASoIaF character...) I think it'll be interesting to see what the producers do with it 🙏🙏🙏🙏 With regards reviews, I'll be curious to see Shad's take on a GRRM-based show, because it'll be interesting to see what he likes, and what he dislikes about it. However, if he doesn't have much/any knowledge of the novel lore, then he's seriously hobbling himself and his potential enjoyment from the outset, and will only be reacting to what he sees on screen, and then, essentially giving it a yay or a nay based solely on his personal tastes... Which is valid in the perspective of "I like this, but I don't like that..." which is fine in so much as everyone has their own tastes... However, if he knew the book And the lore, then he would know how GRRM likes to throw in elements from not only other mythos/franchises, but also from historical events. And he may see something onscreen and wonder why it has been shown, which, had he read the book, he would then be able to actually explain: "That's been done because in the novel, GRRM wrote, and, GRRM most likely put that in the novel, in historical reference to..." Without reading Fire and Blood first, he'll be denying himself that opportunity for deeper appreciation... I always think it's fun to see what other people's thoughts and opinions on things are, but, I also always find it *more* *engaging* , when it's actually a subject where they also already know a fair bit about it, rather than simply being a fan of the *genre* and trying to pass a surface-level reaction to an adaptation of something, off as a well-informed opinion based around the *original* material, because the original is going to contain elements and events, and *references* to those elements and events, which may, or may not also be wholly carried into the adaptation... Thus, to opine on something onscreen which may only be a Partial reference to an element in the novel, And without knowing the novel (or at the very least the base lore) means the likelihood exists that 'the reaction to 'A Thing On Screen', would carry so much more value and gravitas, when it it's *also* being made with an understanding of The Thing On Screen with *a full appreciation of its place in the wider tapestry* ...

I wish we lived in a world where that was something i could actually hope for.

Also, there's the entire plotpoint of the Mummer's Dragon that is Young Griff, being a Blackfyre pretender put on the throne by sympathisers. This wouldn't work if the Targaryans and the Blackfyres weren't visually indistinguishable.

Yeah, the Blackfyre rebellion is a much later deal than the Dance of Dragons. I can see the whole thing about Summer islanders being their excuse, but it's a stupid excuse, since the Targaryens are ridiculously puritanical concerning their bloodlines and would never mix like that.

@@AeneasGemini But they're not Targaryens, they're Valeryon, a separate house of Valyrian heritage. They have never had dragons of their own, so there is no need for the inbreeding the Targaryens did. Still doesn't explain why they'd marry Summer Islanders, but they would look a bit more varied than the Targaryens.

@@AeneasGemini The Targaryens marry into all the other Houses, including Martell. There are many Targaryens in the lore who have no Valyrian features. It's mainly the ruling line that just marries their own.

Many years after that, they then married Martells for the second time with the marriage of Rhaegar Targaryen and Elia Martell just before the beginning of GOT. And that was because there was no young maid from a Valaryian house available to marry and after the failed expedition to Lys to find a Valaryian noble maid for Rhaegar failed, it was only then they agreed to the marriage of Elia and Rhaegar. And that was because the Martells were the only non Valaryian noble family with some Valaryian ancestry and were of somewhat equal rank to the Targaryens as they were also Princes and Princesses. But even then, the mad king hated the sight of his grandchildren as they were dornish looking and didn't have Valaryian features. So yes, blood purity was important to the Targs. And it's ridiculous that a noble family from Westeros would ever marry a woman with no name from the Summer Islands.

It based off of a book which has the conceit of being an in-world history of House Targaryen written by a maester. As such, it is a recounting of events with some known quotes from the historical figures rather than a novel.

Not really true at all... 'The Rogue Prince' and 'The Princess and the Queen' are short stories of sorts (novella/novelette), and this story was expanded even further within 'Fire & Blood'. Plenty of plot and a great story that Id recommend a quick read of. Its probably more appropriate as a film rather than a series.

Actually no. 3-4 accounts of every plot. That’s the fun of it. Guessing who is right. There is not a traditional novel on Dance of Dragons. But is a full story, Stuart to finish. Great.

Maybe Corlys mother may have been a summer Island princess. The only thing it changes are the races of Corlys immediate family and King Daeron, King Baelor, and Daemon Blackfyre race

@@iangallagher5448 No, it doesn't change the appearances of Daeron, Baelor, or the Blackfyres, they're the descendants of Rhaenyra and Daemon. But it does make the parentage of Rhaenyra's 3 eldest sons extremely obvious, whereas at least previously there was the possibility to doubt. It also changes the races of Addam and Alyn of Hull and their potential parentage. Also, to expect that in a medieval-style world that people would just freely marry people from other nations, of completely different races, and with different religions is laughable. It's mentioned dozens of times about how characters are untrustworthy or lesser because they're foreign because that was the sentiment at the time. Just look at the main series to see how characters react to Daenerys' 'foreign' army, the people of Westeros don't accept the Essosi and others as equals
