As the book was all third party accounts, no one else was up there with them to know what really happened. I think the showrunners' decision to make it a bullying session gone wrong was more interesting and definitely in line with Aemond's character.

I felt extreme sadness looking at Luke in the sky looking at the clouds.. I felt like for a moment everything was clear. Above the throne, there is peace. There is hope. But in these stories vengeance rears its ugly head and consumes our future represented by young Luke. Broke my heart instantly

one of the parts of luc and aemond's final flight that I found extremely interesting was the continued contrast between how rhenyra and alicent raised their children...they show this through how luc and aemond each speak to their dragons when things go sideways, with luc speaking calmly in valerian the entire time and aemond starts yelling in the common tongue instead. this shows so much more than just Luc's death, it shows that luc and Jace have both been prepared, educated and trained much more and have taken it more seriously than aemond and daemon who essentially were ignored and left to their own devices in large part....very cool way to continue to show this contrast through such nuance....

" The idea that we control the dragons is an illusion. They're a power man should never have trifled with. One that brought valyria its doom" - viserys targaryen.

After seeing how they don't have 100% control of the dragons, it really puts into perspective how comfortable Daemon and Laena were together and showing their dragons off, specially when Vhager breathed fire and Caraxes didn't take that as an attack and started attacking Vhager in return.

19:25 the link between the dragon and its rider was also shown in this very episode. When Rhaenyra is giving birth to Visenya, the editing multiple times shows Syrax sharing her agony.

I thought it was a great finale!! Rhaenyra showed incredible restraint, finding out about her dad, Aegon stealing the throne, on top of giving birth AGAIN. Then losing poor Luc, RIP little man. What a shit day she had. I wanted her to roast Otto on sight, but instead they showed her very much trying to channel Vizzy and keep the peace. Now the gloves are off and I don't blame her AT ALL.

Poor Rhaenyra. Emma D'Arcy deserves an emmy for this episode. Man, the ending scene of her being informed of Luke's death was as good as Catelyns final reaction at the Red Wedding. That woman screamed, and Rhaenyra just... did she scream? There was something going on there when Daemon brought the news. Did she scream? Had she trouble breathing? Did she have a terrible pain in her belly? You couldn't see what exactly it was, but you felt the raw emotions...

NGL when Luke started to walk back to Arrax I thought Vhagar was going to come in and either step on them or eat them. Can't believe Luke died he was soo brave. You could tell he was nervous about going. He then did his best to defend off his uncle then just gets chomped on. 😢

I am sooooo proud of Rhaenyra's kind parenting. I feel like a Grandma who raised Rhae who is now raising her own kids. 😅

I am absolutely grieving right now 😢😢😢 RIP Luke!!!! This is the saddest episode I can't believe it's the season finale... they got the nerve to make us wait 2 years!!! Ugh

I love how details like subtle misinformation the characters get really fuels their emotions. Like when Daemon off the bat assumes Viserys was killed, he wants war instantly, it could of set off Rhaenyra too, but she’s level headed about the situation. The ending with Aemond looking shocked at what he did was brilliant, and really gives depth to the situation and makes it so realistic and complex like real life often is

Small detail but I like that daemon seems to respect the dragon keepers over most others. Which is understandable, the Targs clearly have a tentative control over their dragons. And you got a long stick and big balls.

WOW. WHAT A WAY TO SAVE A FRANCHISE. THE WAR TABLE WAS JUST WAS BEAUTIFUL.

I love how they have brought back the feeling the fans felt from GoT. This season has gone a long way in repairing the damage to the brand D&D did with the previous series. I hope they can keep up this level of competence!

There has never been an ending needing less explanation. but im here for it.

That funeral had me sad already then when he showed the crown i was bawling. I never thought Viserys would impact me this much. He is a parent, you always argue with them but when they are passed. You realize how hard they tried to protect you. That crown above all else really carried the weight of his passing :(

I like the progression line they are choosing and what versions they take, even when not portrayed in the books. I.E. Aemond is such a more interesting character in the show vs the book because there is hesitation in his actions. Viserys isn't just some fat oaf who is too disinterested to rule or make decisions, he is more so a victim of conspiring agents. Rhaenyra at least for me, is finally shown in a more mature light, she isn't a child doing what she wants, she is thinking for others whereas before she did endanger her house with the recklessness of her actions. Daemon again shows how vicious he is even to his wife, it's why Aemond and him are so alike, they aren't wholly evil characters but there's enough anger/resentment in them that their actions are evil. I like how even though this season goes through a lot, there is character growth and you understand their emotions, their decisions, and how they reach this point of the story.

Emma was phenomenal in this episode paddy deserve an Emmy, but so does she.

Aemond was terrified with Luke's death, not because of remorse, but because he drew the first blood in this civil war, as well as being a kinslayer. In the eyes of superstitious Westeros society, this made the greens the wrong side of the civil war, meaning the greens are thus destined to lose the war, which they do.

Daemon’s growth this season and Matt Smith’s acting deserves all the awards. He was ready lmao

Poor little Arrax.... he was just a scared, innocent baby dragon trying to puff himself up to look big because he was being chased by someone 4x his size. Granny Vhagar didn't have to take it so personally. The rest of this show is going to be hard. I care far more about the dragons than any of the characters, although Luke and Jace seem like really good kids (unlike Alicant's). Rhaenyra didn't do her job to prepare Lucerys adequately. In fact, she shouldn't have sent him at all. If she ever learned to read a room she'd remember how she snubbed House Baratheon during her marriage tour, along with every one of its vassal lords, and she'd have known to show up with some humility and a good offer to make peace before issuing demands. Luke was set up for failure from the moment he left. Rhaenyra's whole problem is that she didn't bother doing the work of preparing to inherit the throne. From the second she was named, she should have been currying favor from the lords of all the houses, knowing she would have to work twice as hard to have their support once Viserys died. She should have been building relationships with her subjects, and knowing about her sons, trotting them out in front of the subjects at every opportunity to get the people to love them and see them as the heirs. At the very least, she could have been gracious to her hosts on the marriage tour and offered the various vassal lords a way to save face when she turned them down. Then when the time came for her to defend her claim, they'd remember her as having treated them well. She could also have been way more involved in the running of the kingdom, in a public way, so as to have the peoples' confidence in her rule. Knowing that her claim broke with centuries of tradition and that she had bastard sons, it's common sense that she would have to get to work in advance ingratiating herself to the people whose support she would need. Instead Rhaenyra spent her entire adolescence pouting around the castle, frittering her time away on idle pursuits and taking her inheritance for granted, while it was obvious for years that her dad could literally die any day. And leaving for Dragonstone, while it may have been more comfortable, cost her years of opportunity to build necessary relationships for the future and protect herself. The cost to everyone is that a kid the whole of Blackwater Bay knows is a psychopath has now been installed to rule over them.

I'm calling it now: Rhaena will ride Vermithor and will help avenge Lucerys death one way or another, directly or indirectly!!! Not in the book but I strongly feel that the show will go this route. Reasons: Aemond has now stolen two things very dear to Rhaena, her dragon and now her fiance... it's POETIC JUSTICE for her to help kill Aemond (Daemon will probably do it because that's what's written in the book but Rhaena will be a part of it).

One thing I thought of today, when Arrax went after Vaegar he hit her with flame on her left eye. Like like what happened to Aemond, not sure if she lost the eye but that would be an interesting handicap for future battles.

Can we just take a moment say how incredible storm's end looks? Like holy castle! And that center tower is an absolute behemoth. As if it been ripped straight from the books. Overall incredible episode ,and ending to season 1 eagerly awaiting season 2.

It was nice to see Deamon having a moment of devastation of the loss of his stillborn daughter looking out into the sea. I know it’s hard for Deamon to show his emotions or his love but he does love but in a different way. I was a little shocked that Deamon chocked Rhea but I know he was exhausted and wanted war against the Hightower. I can’t wait for Deamon and Rhea to go mad! But damn I gotta to wait 2 years for season 2 😢

Why wasn't Otto taken hostage? There's lots they could have extracted from him. Every rope of mercy the blacks extended was an opportunity for the greens to cause chaos. The greens are basically a paranoid mother, her ambitious father and two unhinged brothers. Rhaeynera has more dragons with way more experienced dragon riders. She has a ruthless consort who's a capable warrior. She has a superior navy with a formidable commander. Also if Daemon could sneak two murderers into the keep, why not go further than that? Couldn't they have snuck in an army of formidable knights to rid them of the guards? Then took control of the keep from within before the greens had a chance to strike back?

I first found one of your videos after i started watching house of the dragon and i made it a weekly "ritual" to watch your videos after the episode. I really enjoy the content you make, the quality is amazing, to many more videos!

This was best episode and really showed a lot. They took their time with episode and finally gave us GOT quality. I hope season 2 is as good as the last 2 episodes as I was disappointed in the earlier episodes with all the skipping and jumping in time. I still watch all 8 seasons of GOTs every other week as I’m cleaning and working and have waited so long for this. HOTD has big shoes to follow so again I hope season 2 slows down, there is so much to this story and so much for viewers to see. Thanks for your work and put this video out

A TOTAL of 6 (NOT 3 as you said): They have *_Sunfyre_* , *_Vhagar_* , *_Dreamfyre_* , *_Tessarion_* and two smaller ones, *_Morghul_* and *_Shrykos_* - The *Blacks* have 5/6 adult dragons and 2 small ones, a total of 7/8: *_Caraxes_* , *_Syrax_* , *_Meleys_* , *_Vermax_* , *_(Arrax)_* , *_Moondancer_* , and two smaller ones called *_Stormcloud_* and *_Morning_* --- Then we have the Riderless: *_Vermithor_* , *_Silverwing_* and *_Seasmoke_* which live in Dragonstone, they assumed that it was team black but yeah, it was bold of them to assume that. Then we have the Wildones: *_Sheepstealer_* , *_Cannibal_* and *_Grey Ghost_* . Of this only 1 joins the war the others dont.

I’m wondering how Aemond will play this next season. Will he make it clear it was an accident & that his dragon wasn’t listening to his commands or will he play it off like he meant to do it? I just have a hard time seeing him admit he didn’t have control of his dragon & making such a huge error.

It's very hard to fully control a dragon. Especially by young boys. Really puts in perspective what viserys said in episode one. "the dragons are a power men should never have truffled with"

Daemon would never hurt his family in the books.. he probably wants to put some sense in her as she acts like her Father Also Daemon is driven purely on emotion and the lost of his brother, daughter , kingdom and his wife backing off probably push him .. but again he would never do that in the books.. Also if Alicent didn't stop Otto , he would probably send someone to kill Rhaenyra ,so Daemon preparing for war is understandable..

The writers clearly threw an intentional curveball. Having Luke clear the storm in which he's supposed to die only to die in clear weather had be screaming at the tip of my lungs. I was so upset🤣 also Daemon mentioning the 3 wild dragons who we haven't seen yet brings me hope

Great breakdown, although ''her emotions don't get in the way of level headed judgement' is not entirely true and is male centric. Rhaenyra shows she is able to manage and connect to her emotions and utilises them in a powerful way, placing the realm first, something like the sacrifice and care a mother shows for her children

8:00 Yup, i got teared up too. It was really hard to watch as a whole. Emma D'Arcy really upped her game. Cant wait for more of her in season 2. Vhagar looked so tamed and vell behaved with Laena, so I thought a bit of dragonfire in the face shouldnt anger a dragon of his age... but jeez was i wrong. It could be Aemond's influence over the dragon but still felt very uncanny. Everyone in the Storm's End knows Luke wasnt trying to fight and Aemond was the one looking for it, so i wonder what will happen in King's Landing, especially Alicent's reaction. Rhaenyra is not a child murderer, that's why either Daemon will move without her consent/knowledge OR it'll be that creepy Larys to stir up some shyt and put the blame on the Blacks.

Ep 10 was another good one (ep 9 was a bit blah for me), although if I never see another HotD birthing scene, I won't cry myself to sleep. I did, however, shed a tear over the demise of poor Luke and Arrax, and I was on the edge of my seat when Luke landed and I saw Vhagar lurking in the background, I almost wanted to stop watching because I couldn't bear what was going to happen. The emotion and tension I felt took me by surprise because I didn't realise I was quite that invested - so props to all involved for creating such an engrossing episode. All in all a terrific 1st season, with only a couple of meh instalments. I did prefer the earlier part of the season with Milly and Emily, but the standout episodes for me were Ep 4 with all the sizzling chemistry b/w Milly-Matt & Milly-Fabien, and of course Ep 8 with Paddy's astonishing perfomance as the (intially) half-dead and then (eventually) fully-dead Viserys. Two thumbs up!

This show evokes emotions and has people I believe, they do stupid things but far less than some other shows and the rest of the show is so strong that you forgive those stupid things. THIS IS HOW YOU SPEND 100s of Millions the right way.

How depressing that we have to wait until 2024. 😢😓 You should cover The Peripheral on Prime! There have only been two shows and it's really good so far.
