Their husky must have been less destructive than mine was. Mine shed bushels of fur, chewed off strips of woodwork, broke glass jars and ate the contents, beautiful but not a good house pet.

satinn is good on moldings but its too shiny on walls.. maybe an eggshell but we have flat wall paint and its fine... its just the fact of having kids.. its not going to last forever

@@zippythechicken You're right on the eggshell. That's actually what I was thinking of, but said satin by mistake. Satin is sort of at the borderline for going overboard on walls, and semi-gloss is waaaay too shiny. Semigloss can be okay for trim, though, as is satin. Gloss is just never a good idea.

Flat is nice because paint touch ups are easy and not as noticeable as with gloss finishes. I also have luck cleaning flat paint with melamine foam erasers (aka Magic Eraser)

I find that semi gloss on the ceiling is incredibly easy to clean. The dust doesn't really stick to it. Satin would probably do just as well. When I bought my house, one of the rooms already had a semi gloss ceiling. I never would have thought to do it on my own.

Semi-gloss or gloss, ultra durable and very washable. Good for rental properties.

My first thought, the dog probably got happy feet in that spot. Claws and wood floors can suffer. A large area rug would have prevented that.

that red soil!! i moved from Oregon to Virginia and that is one of the first things i noticed. i was used to grey/brown dirt and then whoa!! sooo red. and i'm having to re learn everything from bugs, to critters, to plants that will and won't grow. soooo different

Growing things in red clay soil is a good thing. Trying to get red mud stains out of clothes or carpet or siding or anything else is not so good.

My grandmother had fruit tree and bushes to live off the land and like the cherry trees were huge and supplied food for the whole year for a family of 13 people. She had 🍎 , 🍐 gooseberry bushes and all the veggies you can think off. This property can easily turn into that as well. There is 5x more land than my grandmother had, if not more. Your vision is wonderful and I hope it develops beautifully. If nothing else build out the tiny house, have someone living there that helps with the development of the land. The whole property is amazing. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

YES! TSP is amazing! I am always amazed of how dirty the water is when I done using it. A guy at Home Depot told me about it when I refinished my kitchen cabinet doors. It safely and with very little odor takes off all the built up dirt and grease on the doors. After that, the melamine paint stuck to it very well and I never had any paint peel from the surface in the 10 years after I painted the doors. Most of it was due to the TSP prep cleaning before hand. What is great too is that it comes in a powder format so you can use the right amount for your surface. Pro tip...use hot water with it to dissolve the crystals.

Mimosas are in my blood (playing pretend as a kid, we would strip some leaves and put them in an old can and make "bean soup" around our pretend "cowboy campfire" 😆) ... always loved the cool of their shade and their pink blossoms... BUT... 4 decades later, living downwind from a neighboring neglected 3 acre patch of land full of mimosas, they have become my nemesis... my vegetable garden, every potted plant, and every raised bed is a constant battle against them... those suckers grow 6" tall overnight... I suspect if I sat still long enough, those things would sprout out of my ears 😆... Mimosas are the definition of "invasive species" to me now... it's a love/hate thing 😉.

@@willclingon2445 The coolest Thing about what you said was the description of your outdoor playing, pretending stuff. I swear, kids don't seem to do that anymore. I was able to revisit my grandparents home, just before it was torn down. They had a tiny grove of mimosas in the backyard that I loved to climb. When I went back years later, I was amazed at how small they looked now.

I literally wrote that the tiny house would be a summer cottage when it would be finished by finnish standards and he even himself stated that he wanted to make an outdoor kitchen for it. Did you think I was saying he needs to build a cottage? His description of what he wants it to be is the definition of a summer cottage for me and most of my country men even if it would be from the low cost end of it. Not every summer cottage needs to be 5 star spa like you put it. They literally can be shacks in the forest without electricity. My family summer cottage is a log house that has never had electricity or running water. Summer cottage does not mean fancy mansion but they can be anything from shacks to fancy mansions. My grandparents summer cottage was literally the same size as his tiny house there.

@@rockshot100 Lol sorry don't mean to laugh but the attempt of you writing finnish got me as I can't really tell what you tried to write but good effort man. I always like people trying to learn even some sentences of other languages and you most likely pronounce it better than you can write it as you yourself stated. Finnish is not the easiest language to write for even native speakers. I don't know his total financial situation but I see it he is doing fine. He has land, property and is fixing up houses to rent that makes him more money not to mention his carpentry products. Its smart to not invest too much on places he means to rent as they are rentals and don't need to perfect as himself said. Still as he stated the small house is on his land and is a side project he some point wants to finish but by his description most of the things he wants to make it to livable are more time consuming than money consuming and he just doesn't have the time to do it yet. The use of a word "literally" comes of the fact that I am finnish we use it quite commonly when we are referring to something we had written or reference something written. Its a quirk that I like to use when I speak my own language so its bleeds over when I use english I didn't even realize that I used it twice in the post as I usually try to not repeat it several times. I did not consider your post rude just that you misunderstood my post and that happens. What comes to traveling to US that might not be in the cards for a while as I don't really have any plans of traveling anywhere and in the current situation it would not be wise anyway to travel.

You must maintain french drains, bad idea for sure. Always best to surface drain.

My French drains, are constructed of 4 inch solid plastic pipe, with holes drilled, on center, some people, put the holes to the bottom, I put the holes, on the side. I wanted any water that got into the pipe to be gone from my property. If you use the corrugated type pipe you can't keep them clean. After 40 years, I have yet, needed to clean them out. I did put clean outs at the beginning, middle and the end. If I ever needed to clean them out, I would have access. I used weed cloth, around the pipe, then small,1 inch minus, crushed rock, not river rock. I did the fence lines, neighbors land is higher than ours. All the roof down spouts, are connected to the main line. I also put a valve in. That way I could water my yard, in the summer, and keep the water in my yard. One summer with valve closed, the neighbors left a hose on. I had 2 inches of standing water. I opened the valve, within 15 minutes the water was gone

@@markchristensen5206 don't know what you mean by valve. sounds like I did the exact same thing and it kinda worked until there was very heavy rain. Mine eventually filled with sediment, yes used the filter cloth, sediment came from roof. Same thing here, my neighbor's yard is higher and drains onto me. Ideally there should be a swale between us that goes to the lake. A swale is a barley noticeable ditch with a low point lower than my lowest, then slant down to to where the water should go. The lady across the street had her new floor ruined by termites undermining the subfloor. I rented a sod cutter and cut about 4' between her and her neighbors, then dug said ditch between. Then put the sod back. That was about 8 years ago, and still no problem. You would never know that there is this swale between she and her neighbor. So had to rip out the wrapped pipe loaded with sediment, it depends on the application, but usually french drains are NOT a good solution.
