About a decade ago, my parents put up a plate of millet and a bowl of water on our roof when we noticed a few sparrows perching on our miriam tree. Feeding wild birds is a subject of long debate, I myself don't feel good about it anymore and there are some legitamite ecological reasons not to do so. To be fair, these sparrows probably had to fly though acres of concrete to get to suitable feeding areas, so a pit stop at my home probably didn't hurt. Over the span of many months, the sparrows bought a few chicks and fed them oleander hawkmoth caterpillars (whose host plant they often perched on) and seeds. With massive loss of open natural areas and shrubs, sparrows have completely vanished in urban areas, they have also lost all suitable habitat in newly rejuvenated doddanekkundi lake.
